While celebrating the last independence day anniversary, we met an old man crying during the celebration, we approached him to know why he was crying, he said he sees aliens everyday in Nigeria and what's really making him cry now is that he is seeing a lot of them also celebrating the independence day anniversary, at first we thought he was mad or not mentally Ok, But we kept on listening to him at least to respect his age.

He said:
Before the creation of the state called Nigeria, Nigeria was a Land with diverse culture and language, its leaders' fought together in unity for its' indepence, they had one goal in mind: To bring freedom, peace and unity for its citizens.
Right from that time till date, Nigeria as a land has given so much to the people living in it, but how many people have given back to the land(Nigeria), so we asked him, Sir how are we supposed to give back to the land Nigeria? some of us don't have the money or the fame to do so, we said to ourselves, he looked at us and said:

I pledge to Nigeria my country
To be faithful, loyal and honest
To serve Nigeria with all my strength
To defend her unity
And uphold her honor and glory
So help me God.

Immediately, a question ran straight through our minds, How much of the pledge to Nigeria have we kept? We were short of words and began to feel like aliens in our land (Nigeria). Like a flash we saw how far we had gone to become aliens in our very own land(Nigeria) while some of our brothers and sisters abroad were also making alien of themselves to our Nation (Nigeria).

who is a Nigerian?
A Nigerian is one who abides and keeps to the pledge( A vow, A solemn promise or undertaking, The payment of a debt and is liable to forfeiture in the event of failure).

Who is an Alien in our land(Nigeria) ?
An alien(different, incompatible, unfamiliar, disturbing, distasteful) in our land (Nigeria) is one who doesn't keep to the pledge.

Conclusion
Anyone who doesn't keep to the pledge is an alien living in our land (Nigeria).
The more you break the pledge(vow, solemn promise or undertaking, The payment of a debt) to Nigeria the more Alien(different, incompatible, unfamiliar, disturbing and distasteful) you are to Nigeria your land.

I pledge to Nigeria my country
To be faithful, loyal and honest
To serve Nigeria with all my strength
To defend her unity
And uphold her honor and glory
So help me God.

Happy Independence day to a Nigerian

Most times, we ourselves have misinterpreted and underestimated who a Nigerian truly is. These misconceptions created by us have been reflected in how people all over the globe perceive and relate with us.
This has ultimately made them to devalue us and this is constantly depreciating our real value. We have truly underestimated the worth and power of who a Nigeria is. I’m writing this piece so that we can understand and come to the Knowledge of Who a Nigerian is. Now I ask,

Who is a Nigerian Anyway?

A Nigerian is not the corrupt political person in political offices.
A Nigerian is not that police officer who constantly collects/receives bribe.
A Nigerian is not that person who embezzles the country’s financial resources.
A Nigerian is not that person who vandalizes the country’s resources.
A Nigerian is not the religious head who constantly misleads the people.
A Nigerian is not the parent who never provides training for their children.
A Nigerian is not that student who never studies but enjoys a constant practice of mal-practice.
A Nigerian is not that teacher who doesn’t educate the students but leaves them to their own fate.

THE NIGERIAN
A Nigerian is the political person who understands that he is a leader and therefore has the interest of the people at heart.
A Nigerian is that individual who is a custodian and protector of the laws of the land.
A Nigerian is the COMPATRIOT who is patriotic and has RISEN to the greatness of Nigeria.
A Nigerian is the one who obeys and responds to the CLARION CALL of Nigeria.
A Nigerian is the one who constantly serves Nigeria recognizing that it is
OUR FATHER LAND .
A Nigerian is the one who has LOVE,
STRENGTH and FAITH for Nigeria.
A Nigerian is the one that regards the
LABOUR OF OUR HEROES PAST and ensures that is NEVER IN VAIN .
A Nigerian is the one who SERVES WITH HEART AND MIGHT in any capacity.
A Nigerian is the one who never abuses FREEDOM but respects, appreciates, values and makes the best use of it to the greater good of Nigeria.

A Nigerian is the one who maintains
PEACE and UNITY in every place and at every time.

A Nigerian is a Success.
A Nigerian is a Leader.
A Nigerian believes in the future of Nigeria.
A Nigerian is YOU.
YOU are A Nigerian.

Dedicated to over 160 Million Nigerians who believe in the power of being a Nigerian.
