The soakaway. Size is 6ft length by 6ft breadth and 6ft deep. The pictures above are two different septic tanks. The first one with a ladder is 12 ft lenght by 8ft breadth and 8ft deep. The second one with people working is 10 ft length by 10ft breadth by 8 ft deep. Season greetings to you all.

I would have loved to discuss this off public space since you said you're an Architect.

You said the standard parking is 2.5m by 5m pls can you park a TRAILER on that space Or a Limo?

You also said the standard room is 3m by 3m, wld you consider that a standard when dealing with Dangote or designing for a wealthy man?

Imagine using a win of 1.2 by 1.2 in a bedroom of 12m by 9m... Hilarious.

I understand you reply is perhaps in line with your level of experience... Also please note that I'm an Architect with years of site experience... Sir.

Finally.... The living room door is not a standard 1.2, it depends on who you're designing for... If I'm designing for the fattest man or woman, putting a 1.2m door is a failed design.

That's why in Architects Data, you wld never see a dimension called standard but a range eg Door 0.6m - 2.7m by 1.8m - 3.6m etc.

Don't consider this an attack, consider it as a note from a colleague...

Thanks...

grin tnx

We are talking about cars NOT long vehicles sir, do u park long vehicles in car lots? check ur archiData.

When I say "Standard" I means that is what is acceptable in development control as Nigeria standard, every other country has its own building standard eg. German doors are 2.4m while Nigeria is 2.1m etc.

Your room can be as large as foodball field but can not be smaller than 3mx3m (10ftx10ft) go and find out.

Thank you Arch sir.

Noooo! Sometimes the water is important running in the same pipe to septic tank as it helps in sanitize or works as lubricant on the runway and that will prevent blockage. The water used for flush may not be enough as we have modern WCs now that doesn't required much water.

What type of blockage are you talking about here, blockage by human waste I guess?. Don't forget that over 50% of Nigerians flush manually due to inadequate power supply. Good idea all the same.

Sizing of a soakaway

The length of the soakaway drains is determined by the number of bedrooms in the house and the porosity of the soil. Standard regulations states that for any house up to and including 3 bedrooms, the minimum size sewage system that can be installed is for 5 persons, with one extra person added for each extra bedroom. A 3 bedroom house requires a 5 person plant, a 4 bedroom house a 6 person plant, etc. However, all this rules are sometimes not applicable in Nigeria because a 3 bedroom bungalow here may have upto ten persons living inside. For seven persons living in a small bungalow See my design schedule affix in pics
