How are you sure you're going to have an extra year? Already being certain you will is a bad sign. Did you fail that much?

You need to first erase the failure mentality and believe that you can and even if you'll have an extra year, you can still come out in life more successful than those with the highest GPs. Life is more than your grades at school.

Well i will tell you the basics. You are in your final year if you cgpa is less than 3.3. You cant make a 2.1.

Dont be scared to tell your parents because after all said and done, they will still pay your fees and it will bring more pain to them if you dont tell dem or you lied to them. Our parents love us and never want to be lied to.

Concerning your life after school...to be honest with you, only very few people get a good job without connections these days. Even with connection self its not always sure.

So i will advice you pick up a vocation you have interest in. Hairdressing, tailoring, beadmaking or makeup, barbing or showmaking, woodworks or capentry etc and start taking classes now so by the time you are out of school...there is something to do and bring money before the dream job comes in

please dont be scared to tell your parents about your academic performances.

I know its hard to tell dem so you can have someone dey respect break the news to dem maybe like a pastor or someone elderly in the family.

@ OP I wish I could meet you inperson so I could talk to you.
Being an extra year student makes one feel bad, but the truth is which many people don't know is that it has numerous advantages it only depends on how you are able to discover and maximise them.

The truth is I had once been in your shoes before, infact yours in just "one extra" year, as for me mine was "double extra year".

It wasn't easy for me at Ist as I did some running around to see if the courses ( two) could be waived but it was not possible.

I didn't even let my parents know I had extra years, so I had to struggle to pay my school fees, during one of my street husstles in Lagos to pay school fees I got arrested and spent two days in police cell.

But the truth is never did I know that God was preparing me for something big and special and I overcame.

I overcame those trying periods which I expect you to do.
I made up my mind that, I mean change your mind set by making up your mind that you are still a student, you can tell yourself that your course is a six year course.

Withdraw yourself from associating with most people from your set and make friends with incoming final year students ( part 2) . This will help you a lot.

Get closer to God. My extra years made me know that God really wanted me to know him more, I began to read my bible everyday, pray hard and changed my wayward life style.

Now that you are an extra year student you will have lesser course work, it's a time to get involved in extra curricular things which you couldn't do before, develop your talent or skill this is a great opportunity.
As for me, I was involved in campus politics before my extra year, during my extra year I got involved in outside politics, I created student political movements for outside politicians.
To the glory of God, I'm waiting for my service call up today. Due to my extra year and developed my political skills and got connected with many political leaders and aspirants, to glory of God as fresh graduate waiting for call up I have used ny connections to provide jobs for and a building contract for three people in my set who graduated two years before me. Infact my problem now is where to choose to work after my service.

Today I work as media assistant to a former Governor and a Governorship Aspirant who owns an oil company and I get paid well for it, funny thing is I work from home and sometimes I travel to represent them at functions because one is based overseas another majorly Abuja.

As for the worry about your grades, that's nothing because it won't guarantee you a job, besides I don't know about your school, but as an extra year student using mine as an example you can register for some restricted elective courses which you consider easy to pass to boost your GP.

So don't be cast down look at the positive sides, your mates graduating before you does not mean they are better than you! It's just a matter of time, you never know what badluck God used it help you avoid.

Your case is not new neither would it be the last to have an extra Year!

Pray Hard! Get Closer to God! Develop your skill or talent with the plenty time you have and I assure you at the end of the day you will thank God for giving you an extra Year.

Am in my 3rd year in school Just found out am having an extra year. I fell like my world has crumbled like all my dreams in school gone . People keep telling me I can still make it to 2.1 if really work hard and believe. In addition to that i keep hearing stories about life outside school. Can't really say or believe cause haven't had that much experience outside school. The truth is am having this low self esteem cause, my gp is not encouraging..
