I never realised people are this scared of a change.

Should Aubrey De Grey's project be a success I would love to know what most will be saying when all the foods you know is no more.

------------

If you reside in most European countries you must have eaten cloned beef without knowing.

If you reside in US and enjoy eating Burger. You have tasted cloned beef.

----------------

There are many modern farms in US & Europe who grow their produce through the introduction of chemicals. Sand(soil) is no longer an option for them.

Remember your high school biology?

Remember Chemosynthesis?

It is the future of farming and it is here for a very long time.

Oh! And it may be used to support life in some planets, stars where we may not be able to get oxygen to survive.

The survival of the human race rely on scientific discoveries like this.

Remember, your kids will or should I say are only learning Agriculture but non of them is willing to go to a farm even with the modern tools used @ present.

torture:

naija people, stupid people. when people crack brain and do all the job. What u guys do is criticize and talk plenty. Nobody will force u to eat the rice.

At times criticism is good, it encourages some people to improve their work.

When the time comes nobody will convince them before they start drinking their own urine after it has been purified and certified for drinking.

Oh! I don forget we are doing that already.

India is a scientifically advanced country compared to Nigeria. In tthis regard, Nigeria cannot be like India even in the next 20 years. The rice in question could be the product of breeding resulting in tender qualities such you would have in some vegetables that require no cooking. I will wager that tenderness is a heritable property that breeding can improve upon. For those of you making bones of this development, India is not begging you to eat their rice so do not make a fuss over nothing.

Who was making an issue about genetical modified crops (GMC)? Can you say what really is its GREAT disadvantage apart from the hue and cry from interested stakeholers/activists? The genes used in modifying crops are largely obtained from other crops and those are already being consumed one way or another. The use of antibiotic resistance markers in the cloning process is an obvious minus, but most antibiotics are already facing resistance from bacteria, GMC or no GMC. Moreover other selection markers devoid of the use of antibiotic makers are now in use. So if the new Indian rice is a GMC, it is perfectly ok for consumption.

These indians wouldnt kill us. The most important thing is, how much nutritional value has it got over the usual cooked one. 45 + 15 - 60mins to soak rice?!!! How long does it take to cook rice!. Well, i want to believe its produced by the indians, for the indians.
Re: Scientists Develop Rice That Requires No Cooking by KMTee(f): 8:47am On Jan 20, 2010

The level of idiocy is strong in this thread. Instead of praising this achievement which can potentially reduce cooking fuel consumption by a great amount, people are here exposing their ignorance.
This rice is not meant for you. It will prove extremely useful to those poor peasants out there who can do with the fuel savings, as well as benefit soldiers, explorers and mountaineers who no longer have to carry around so much fuel to cook their food.

Re: Scientists Develop Rice That Requires No Cooking by VALIDATOR: 12:38pm On Jan 20, 2010
The reason why naija is not developing is because of our people's attitude toward "change". You want things to always remain the same. Some people have worked very hard to reduce the time required to prepare rice and you find it difficult to embrace this new easy way. Most of you believe that it must give bad incurable diseases just because it's easy.
From my general observation, most nigerians do not like easy effective stuffs. They prefer trivialities. For example, you car has a problem, you call an auto-technician to fix it,he spends just 5 minutes and its done.He says his bill is 3,000 naira and you are like ", but you spent just five minutes na. I don't think that is worth more than 400 naira".
Another day,a similar thing happens to your car and you call in the same auto-technician Now he has learned his lessons. He says it is a serious problem and the car will have to be towed to his workshop. On getting to his workshop he first looses all the bolts and knots, brings down the entire engine, sweats very hard under his now dirty overall and your car is finally ok after 5 hours. He says your bill is 7,000 naira plus 2,800 naira for the towing and you pay him happily telling yourself "mehn, that guy really worked hard on my car".

When will our people learn to appreciate efficiency

The same reason you are told that you must scream your lungs out in the middle of the night before God answers your prayers.

When will our people learn to appreciate efficiency

The same reason pastors use loud megaphones in the middle of the night to address a congregation of just a few people.

When will our people learn to appreciate efficiency

no be naija we dey? r plenty of em not students

how much is cooking gas? kerosened ?wey nepa for hot plate?

people who can cook beans for 45 mins cannot soak rice for 45 mins ?

wetin - i remeber some hungry days in boarding school - when one would soak garri for 20mins to get the maximum volume

we even used to soak indomie in water for 15 mins, since boiling rings were forbidden

forget it - this rice is made for naija cheesy

Genetically modified rice sounds so good mmmm. Trully they are not trying, they should make one that already comes with flavouring so i don't need to eat it with stew grin
