Sen Nurudeen OBATEMI and so-many Ebiras in Kogi State bear Yoruba names, does that make Ebira a subset of Yoruba ethnic group?
Yes, it does. They are Yorubas of the North, but full blooded Yorubas, just as Bukola Saraki and Emir Kolapo Sulu Gambari of Illorin are Fulani's despite choice of first name.

Its a great naivity to expect a fixed outcome in political permutations...What if the S/south demand for their own Republic, independent of Biafra?

Noneroone:
read my post well. i never argued that SS minorities will just join SE in Biafra. my arguement is simple- SS Igbos may be comfortable in a seperate region as long as SE Igbos remain in Nigeria. They know the presence of SE gives them some kind of security and removes their fear, but when it comes to an issue as permanent as independence, SE exit will trigger some sort of chain reaction. eg Asaba pple who are hardcore Biafrans will be quite vocal in demanding to join BIAFRA and when they join, the IKA will join them for sake of Anioma unity. Again, Obigbo, etche and egbema areas in Rivers are more passionate about Biafra than the rest and of a fact, you dont mean to tell me the Ikwerres will stay behind when those who have been their neighbours throughout history are joining a whole new country. i cant really predict the non Igbo SS group that will join but when PH 'falls' to Biafra, many south south minority groups who see the place as their rallying point might opt to join. The urhobo and itshekiri are off my assumption therefore idont see them joining. therefore my assumption is that the reaction will follow this pattern--SE Igbos demand to exit-- SS Igbos join them-- SS minorities demand to join SS Igbos. i never said SS minorities will expressly join SE without SS Igbos joining. but the north's fear is that SS Igbos will certainly join SE b'cos of fear.

So you can dash a whole ethnic group a new identity and zone them to another ethnic group?
Bukola Saraki and Emir Kolapo Gambari are Yoruba men of Fulani ancestry (Yoruba-fulani) just as PMB and Yar'Adua are Hausa men of Fulani ancestry.

No be me talk am. Na Bukola Saraki father Olusola Saraki talk am. See am below:

Pa Dr. Olusola Saraki: Warts & all • Yes! I’m Fulani from Mali • Why I never served military govt

By FEMI ADEOTI Monday, August 17, 2009

Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki, elderstatesman and chairman, Northern Union (NU), has spoken as never before. He practically opened up for close to two-and-a-half hours when he met with a group of selected journalists at his Abuja home recently.Sarakihttp://odili.net/news/source/2009/aug/17/514.htmlHe answered every question as much as he could, and clarified some “knotty” issues. He talked about his “real” origin, past military governments, why ex-civilian governors of Kwara State always rebuffed him after installation, NU, collapse of ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo’s third term agenda, etc.Excerpts:

Real identity: My mother is from Iseyin in Oyo State, while my father is from Ilorin in Kwara State. My great-great grandfather originated from Mali and I am talking about some 150 to 200 years ago. And they are Fulani and that is where we got our Fulani connection from. My great grandfather settled in Ilorin preaching the religion of Islam. A section of Ilorin came from Gwandu and they were religious, but my people came there as practising Muslims from Mali with their own Quran. In fact, the Emir and I used to joke that we had our own Quran and that nobody gave us Quran.

My great-grandfather brought our own Quran to Ilorin from Mali to Agbaji where we settled. The Agbaji quarters is about 200 to 300 years old. Over the years, religious piety and devotion have led the prohibition of drumming (in whatever circumstance) in the area. But because of our connection with the Southern people, a lot of Yoruba are always in Ilorin and so we speak the same language. If you look at the Ilorin people, the real Ilorin people like Saraki for example, the culture and their ways share affinity with those of the far Northern Nigeria.

That accounts for the difference you observe between us and, particularly, people of the South-West, despite the existence, now, of Yoruba as a common language. I leave people to say whatever they like about me. Some people even say I am from Ogun State and some even say I am from Togo but I know where I am from. Even, not long ago, I had a letter inviting me to join in the formation of a Mali-Fulani Organization and that I should be its chairman.

What are you really trying to bring out sir?
1)Every one can trace their lineage nau and there is no crime or any controversy about that

2) Ethnic identity is a self identity, you can NOT impose it on anyone or group of people

3) Ethnic identity/ethnic or tribal group is not fixed, it changes over the generations.

4) Senator Fatai Buhari (APC, Oyo North) trace his lineage to Fulani migrants from Sokoto , the Soun royal family of Ogbomosho trace their ancestry to Bariba tribe but today, they are proud Yorubas.
There are so many families ,including royal families in Ondo, Ekiti, Lagos and Osun States there Bini in origin.

5) The Oputa family in Oguta, IMO State and Zik trace their origin to Bini but today, there are Igbos

6) A fraction of the people in Ilorin are now culturally yorubas but have a part Fulani ancestry ,may be 12.5- 25% Fulani (their great great-grand father may be Fulani, Hausa, Nupe or Bariba).

So if Senator Olushola Saraki said he is Fulani, let's respect his choice of identity.

This happen every where all over the World, The Tudor royal family of England is of Welsh origin , the reigning Queen Elizabeth ( Real family name is Saxe-Coburg-Gotha) is of German ancestry.
The Bourbon Royal family is from France

Even if only southeast goes away as Biafra, everyone is suggesting that Nigeria can cripple her with customs.
Anyone ever considered an "offshore port". An offshore port is a big shipping vessel that anchors in international waters. Goods can be ferried via air cargo, and IATA guarantees free air travel. The sea blockade can be worked around. No shaking.
Nigeria and her slave mentality, only want to suppress mankind. Let self-identified Biafra go!

What of heavy goods? cars, heavy machinery? So, you want to leave SS Igbos behind? That's very selfish, wouldn't you say?

Youths of today will not read only to dey do sports betting upandan. Go and read their declaration, Ango Abdullahi's statements, and you will see that they keep talking about 'allowing' Igbos of the South East do referendum. What of South South Igbos? Do you think those Northern youth groups don't know what they are doing? When people like Prof. Ango Abdullahi say the North owns the oil in the South South, you don't read between the lines? They suddenly say Igbos (only South East) should pack and go, and you start jumping up and down, not looking at the 'terms and confitions'.

North is not a reliable partner, when they bend constitution to suite themselves, they will not talk, but when arrangement is against them, they will apply constitution. The present arrangement is tilted to their side therefore they can do anything possible to defend it.

I dont want to leave anybody behind.... thats why i said self-identified Biafrans. This is a coalition of the willing. Anybody that wants to stay in Nigeeria is free to do so. We are all capable of independent and rational thought. Besides, we don't want to start Biafra wit bad-belle people.

Bonny is Igbo-ani or Igboani , while Opobo is Igwenga, and they are all Igboland.
