So I made a recent observation and was thinking perhaps Doctors in the house would proffer a solution.

Two months ago as I was at the peak of my degree exams, miss Red came expectedly with it's usual painful cramps and quite heavy flow. The last thing I needed during this crucial period was any form of distraction from the painful cramp that comes alongside miss Red so I had to go with the prescription of pain killers friends has been suggesting for a while, I took Felvin in particular. Normally, my flow is quite heavy flow and spans between 5-6 days but on this particular month, My flow was light and lasted for just four days. I talked to a doctor friend who assured me everything was normal and there was no cause for alarm. July's cycle was absolutely normal, heavy flow for about 5-6 days.

Usually, from time immemorial I don't keep track of my cycle to know my ovulating period, safe period and all those cos I really don't have any need for those now as I ain't TTC, having a pregnancy scare or anything similar undecided undecided. All what I know is some annoying, nauseating and unwanted visitor would be coming once it's the beginning of a new month angry angry

Miss Red choose this month of all days to go away from the normal.
First, it came days earlier. Who send am errand kwanu
Second, this is the 3rd day and it's like I'm just spotting cheesy cheesy something very very extremely light shocked that I could possibly decide not to go with using sanitary pads, even panty liners can absorb the flow comfortably cheesy cheesy
Third, No form of menstrual cramps at all cheesy cheesy This is the coolest part of the new development as I don't have to scream, roll on the floor and endure any godamn pains.

See!! A part of me is happy about this recent development as it just made life easier and less stressful for me cheesy
But the other part of me is worried something is wrong somewhere and things are not the way they're supposed to be embarassed embarassed

So please, Doctors in the house, any viable explanation for this recent, odd development?
Fellow ladies, ever encountered a similar scenario and how were you able to manage it.

NB!! Before some fellows use the "nairaland isn't a hospital, go visit a gynecologist" line on me, take note of these...
I'm comfortable with the latest happening as long as everything is just fine.
It's still too early to make conclusions as I'd be compelled to visit a specialist if this repeats itself in the next cycle but in the meantime instead of sitting with folded hands why not ask experienced personnel on Nairaland.

OK! Over to you guys...
I'm out to read the forthcoming replies...

In other news, anyone here familiar with Github? I have a task I'm working on and I've been encountering problems. Help a sister out, just mention me or send a PM.

I am not a Doctor but I sense irregularities and near abnormality in the way Mrs. Red visit and relate with you. Why 5-6 days when it usually 3-5 days for most women? Why thick at one time and light at other times when it ought to follow a uniform pattern except tampered on? Do you take P2 pills? If yes, how often? If no, have you tried screening for infections?

@github, Do you code? Why search on YouTube how to upload/download codes from it?

My flow lasts 5-6 days for as long as I can remember, nothing comes up per say on the sixth day anyway. Don't think there's any abnormality here.
Problem started when I took the pain relief two months ago.
No! I don't take P2 pills.
And I've not screened for infections in a long while cos I've not had reasons to or any symptom to look out for.
I'll do this as soon as possible though to be extra sure.

Yeah!! I code.
Thanks!! I'm looking up for a way around it there smiley

I think the pain relief tab gave you away. I understand it could be painful but you can try something natural like using wet hot towel to massage the area instead of tabs. That can help reduce the pains. It's never recommended to suppress it with tabs. Go for the infection screening. A specimen culture would be perfect. Be strong. You'll be fine.

I've always had a high threshold for enduring menstrual cramps. I just didn't want any form of disturbance so I could concentrate fully on my exams that was why I resorted to pain killers.
I'd go for the tests though to be on the safe side once miss Red is gone.

I'll be just fine, thanks kiss kiss

Irregular period could be due to several factors.

1) Hormonal imbalance
2) pelvic inflammatory disease
3) Few cases, some forms of cervical cancer which could cause spotting.
4) Drugs or medications
5) Stress
My suggestions.
1) run a test (infection)
2) screen for cervical cancer
3) Take supplements to regulate the hormonal imbalance(my area of specialization... My
phone number - Oh eight Oh nine nine nine nine five two four eight).
4) Try and take some rest..

All the best

Dear Luckygurl, as someone who has been menstruating for years now and has landed in the hospital a couple of times, I have few things to say:
1. Usage of Felvin for menstrual pain is a BIG NO. I know the pains can kill sometimes but my doctor advised that girls are making serious mistakes by using felvin as a remedy for menstrual pain this can cos organ damage.
2. Yes felvin can affect your period but I think the effect of the one you used should have worn off by now except if you used it again then it most certainly is the cause of your change.
3. One of the major causes of changes in menstrual cycle is lifestyle and diet. A change in life style, emotions and even environment can cos this. What you eat also is important. Has your stress level or daily activities reduced or increased?
4. Are you using any medication (any at all, malaria drugs, birth control, etc) or are you ill? all these can also affect your cycle.
5. Finally we can't rule out Infections but dont panic yet, my period fluctuates so much that when I landed in the hospital for yet another miss red mishap my doctor ordered all the whole vaginal test, scan etc and I didn't have any infection.
Its your body, so try and study all that I mentioned earlier.
