Jonathan reasserts position as Acting President

The confusion in the presidency deepened on Wednesday evening as Dr. Goodluck Jonathan saluted Nigerians in his capacity as the Acting President.

Jonathan had earlier in the day been referred to as vice-president in a statement by President Umaru Yar’Adua’s spokesman, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi.
However, in a statement from his own spokesman, Mr. Ima Niboro, later on Wednesday evening, Jonathan was addressed as the Acting President.
In the statement titled, “Acting President salutes Nigerians,” the Acting President saluted Nigerians for praying for Yar’Adua, and also assured that the ship of state was on course.

He observed that Yar’Adua’s return was an indication that the prayers of Nigerians were indeed working.
The statement reads, “The Acting President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, today assured Nigerians that the ship of state is on course.
Speaking today in the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja, on the return of President Umaru Musa Yar’adua, he thanked Nigerians for their prayers both for the president and for the nation.

“He said that the president’s return is a pointer to the fact that the prayers of Nigerians are working.
The Acting President called on Nigerians to continue to earnestly strive for the well being of the nation, noting that “it is at times like this that all patriots must rise to the occasion, and place the interest of the country above every other consideration.”

According to him, Nigeria is still battling with the pains of development and progress; therefore all hands must be on deck to ensure that the integrity of the nation is maintained at times.

“Dr. Jonathan urged Nigerians to continue to work for peace, security and stability, stating that, “we have only one country that we can call our own; we must therefore single mindedly pursue our national interest at all times.”

Earlier, Jonathan sent two letters to the Senate asking the Senate to approve the budgets of two Federal parastatals.

They were: Nigeria Communications Commission 2010 Budget Proposal and that of the Universal Service Provision Fund 2010 Budget Proposal.
Both letters were read by the President of the Senate, David Mark, during plenary.

I dont know what Jonathan's strategies are, but he will be a fool to siddon look & allow turai & the cabals run things.

He should insisit on seeing yarasick himself. He should also call all yaradua aides & security heads to order. Nobody should take any imaginary order of yaradua from turai & d cabal without his approval except it is received directly from Yaradua. That will cut Turai & d cabal to size.

The most annoying part in all of this is the fact that d FEC meeting that was to hold yesterday,was rescheduled,because of Yar'Adua's return.The Ag. President said he wil go and see Turai 4 briefing.Who is Turai?somebody shld pls tel me if our const recognises d ofice of d 1st lady.
