Hey guys. . . .

Please, am pretty new on here, a friend introduced me to Nairaland as a good source of information. I need your advice on what you know about on this. I have been dating a Canadian girl for about 2 years now and our love has developed to the point that we'll like to get married soon. We plan to come to Nigeria by middle of the year to get married and return back to Korea where we currently live and work now or go to Canada where her family lives.

First, i'll like to know if it is true that i can get a Canadian visa with residence permit from the embassy in Nigeria and what the visa application process is like.
I'll be getting a new virgin E-passport for the visa application because am currently using the old passport which seem to be losing its credibility.

What are the visa requirements? How long will the visa process take? Please, i need you to advice me on any aspect of the process that you know. I'll appreciate you guys alot.

hmmm, as for getting your PR, u guys need to do court marriage and then she will file for u, she can get the application online and print it out or request for hard copy to be sent to u guys,
I have 2 friends who did this and within a year and half, their spouses joined them in Canada, Make sure you read the document properly, gather all the things they want etc, is the girl white Canadian?

Hello Hotstepper, thanks for taking out ur time for me. Yes! We are currently living together in an asian country and we plan to come to Nigeria and do the court wedding if that will make it work, and yes she is a white Canadian. Please, advise me more on what you know about how it worked for the people you know.

They did not do anything special, all the Canadian Immigration needs from both of you is well explained on the application, so take time and read it well before filling out and print/request as many copies as u can, do a rough one b4 transferring to a good one. Good Luck

First, what's your status in your present location? if you have legal permit in your current location you can migrate from therer to canada with ur potential spouse.there two ways or more to migrate to canada base on partner. (1) common-law (2) legal marriage. you could be qualified for ealier since you have been living for 2 yrs. the requirement is 1 yr cohabitant in which u met already. if you are going for the later get married anywhere and start the processing most times it takes less than a year. if you doing it from asia where you reside it might be faster than going through NIGERIA/GHANA.

But i cannot get married to her here reason being that i'm don't have a residence permit here in asia, i've been using a Tourist visa for 2years, i normally cross to a neighboring country,only an hour from here every 2 months to re-enter with a new Tourist visa so am not permitted to get married here with that kind of visa or travel to Canada from here, i have to go to my home country and thats why we plan to come to Nigeria to get legally married then go back to Canada together. Please, i'll need you to advice me most on the best and fastest way to go about it from Nigeria. Am not sure how long u meant when when you said it takes less than a year, i don't plan to spend more than 1 or 2 months at most in Nigeria before i move get out again so i need the best of your knowledge how to go about it, my girl and her parents back home have a very good citizen status are willing to do anything to aid and fasten the process. My woman's father suggested that he applys for an invitation letter for me to visit and then maybe we can kick it from there if that would be faster but i told him i don't know yet cos truly i don't know so am seeking advice from the more knowledgeable of you guys to help out with what you know about all of these cos am black out of everything. . . Silly me!

I really do not know any other advise you are looking for, Your case is a very simple one, in that you have a citizen but seems you want to run to Canada tomorrow but swerri, it wont be possible, U need to be patient

Go to any court registar in Nigeria and tell them you want to do court marriage. They will give 2 of you forms to fill with your info and tosome of your passport photos will be needed. Your names with your picture will be made public by pasting it in that court register for people to see you in case any1 sees why u two should not get married. This will be done for 21 days, there after, you 2 will be invited for the ceremony which is not a big deal, sign the marriage certificate with ur witnesses and that's it.

You wife will now use this certificate to apply for PR and if it is applied completely well with all the required problem, in less than a year and half, u will get it, good luck

The wise thing to do now is to first get married. Try and also get evidence that you two have been together for a while now. if you don't have a joint bank account then open one now. gather bills in the address where the two of u reside now; yours and hers and keep them. emails to each other, letter and photos are also important. keep them. especially photos of the two of u together in Korea.

Those are what they look for to convince themselves the marriage is not bogus. since she is white, it will be a lot harder. the assumption will be that you may be using her to hop into canada so be prepared with as much of the proof above as possible. Then finally get the marriage done and start the process

Spousal visa for genuine applicant is not too hard, what is hard is proving the marriage was not contracted for the visa purpose. the fact she lives with u in far away korea is a bonus
