Sorry for the loss.
With this degree and percentage burns in the picture attached, it is not a general hospital case. There's a unit in teaching hospitals called BURNS and PLASTIC UNIT where this kind of case is handled. I don't have the details of this story but going to "all the GENERAL HOSPITALS" is actually unbelievable. People see REERRAL as REJECTION in this clime.

Spot on brother...Our people needs a lot of orientation about referrals .

I'm sure the sister of the patient would have been duely informed about non availability of a specialized burns unit where the patient would have been admitted to but rather chose to press the 'rejection key'.

Yes they have the right to reject especially if hospitals don't have the basics such as oxygen. I cannot admit you as an emergency and be looking at your face. Stop blaming doctors and blame the government, stupid
they should have referred they to where she can be better attended to, and even offered ambulance to conveyed her. just to do something for humanity sake. pls understand me this is someone's mother, wife and loved you.
point of information, I am not stupid, I am a concerned Nigerian. And the next victims maybe someone that you can not just imagine their pains but their experience.

Idiot son of a thousand fathers.
This is Nigeria and there is freedom to move from one part of the country to another.
Fools like you should note that since the government has decided to concentrate strategic infrastructures in certain places, the people will be force to migrate there for a better business environment. Yoruba Bastard

Our constitution guarantees freedom of movement for individuals but NOT freedom of mass migration of a whole tribe as currently misinterpreted by the cursed tribe of Isreal from Igboland.

She was probably referred and not rejected.

There is a burns center in Lagos, but if those ones are overfilled they will still have to refer her to a teaching hospital.

Only 1 or max 2 general hospitals can handle extensive burns in Lagos. She should have been taken to a teaching hospital and not a general hospital.
Sad
RIP to her,

I can bet it that she was referred, and not rejected.

Unfortunately, there are no proper ambulance services in hospitals. The family still has to take her to the hospital she was referred to. I am also certain she was referred to a teaching hospital but a lot of people still run from teaching hospitals. It may be a case of distance, previous bad experi3nce or someone else's testimony but they would rather do a general hospital than a teaching hospital.

Burns injury is a very serious condition and should be managed as a sub-specialty with a seperate ward, equipment and rules. I doubt if they have a seperate ward even in the teaching hospitals

I apologise for my choice of words.
I know the standard protocol for referral . Unfortunately ,some persons will never understand why we refer. Most, think doctors refer in in order to dodge work or if they cannot see money from errant or poor parents.
The mind of an average Nigerian is rotten, sir

Hospital/health institutions have grade and specific purpose. Most general hospitals in Nigeria are for primary health care. Maternity and first aid administration. This case should be handled by specialist hospitals. Did they take her to a teaching hospital?

We've seen cases worst that what is on that pics. In Nigeria, we only ask questions or want to know when on emergency

You don't give a try when you know you're not specialised to handle such cases. It is unethical .If it is in the western countries, you'll get sued.

All the General hospitals in Lagos? Does she know how many general hospitals in Lagos and where they're located? Did they all give reasons for not admitting her? I feel bad for her all the same. I can imagine how painful and frustrating it is trying to get much needed help for your loved one to no avail. May God console the bereaved and rest the soul of the departed.

All the general hospitals are useless. Even if they admitted her, they know they cannot treat her because they either do not have the facilities to do that or they don't even know how to treat fire victims. That is why it is very important to have money in Nigeria. That's why the politicians will never treat themselves or their families here even in a private hospital. They know they have rendered everything useless.

Pray never to have or see anything that will require you or any of family members to need to visit any government hospital for treatment. they'll frustrate you and make your sickness worst or hasten your death. the government hospitals in nigeria have killed a lot of people due to lack of facilities, stupidity and laziness on the part of the doctors and nurses. the way they even attend to you like they are being forced to do the job is so annoying. they got no sympathy of any kind. hospitals that you'll go to and they'll tell you there is no bed or you have to pay for bed space. majority of the idi.ots working there don't even know their job functions. Ask them simple questions or ask for direction and they'll be looking like fools. worst is they are very rude and ugly. that useless luth has killed more people than boko haram

Was she rejected or was she referred? There is a difference sir

She was refered from Subol Hospital, Idimu to General hospital where she was rejected four times! by 1. Gen hospital Igando
2. General Hospital, Agege
3. General Hospital, Ikeja (Ayinke House).
I cant rememeber the forth one now. She was rejected and we were all devastated until a friend suggested Island Maternity Hospital, Lagos

General hospitals in Nigeria are not meant to be treating burns. How many burns specialist drs and nurses do we even have in Nigeria? Talkmore of specialist hospitals.
They simply are not equiped for it. Its sad there are no functioning primary health centers. The general hospitals have taken the roles of primary health centers and are only equiped for such.
Its high time people hold the right persons responsible. Those public leaders who have looted the country dry, and yet we hail them and they become untouchable based on tribal and political affiliations, and even the common man gives his own support to such thieves. This is the result. Sooner or later, it is the same common man who will pay for it. The thieves will fly their children out in a private jet to get the best health care worldwide.
Anyway, my advice is for everyone to try and stay healthy, dont drink and drive, dont speed while driving, avoid unnecessary risks in your daily life because if anything should happen to you, you're on your own.

Burns of these magnitude are not managed in general hospitals....
It's simply beyond them....
I think the problem lies in a poor referral system.....
Sending from one general Hospital to another shows lack of an efficient referral structure in Nigeria....

Seriously... Sum nairaland comments ehn.... Pple really need to understand d diff btw REJECTION n REFERRAL... Cases dat cannot b handled by a facility are simply referred to anoda facility dat specialises in such. Ow many general hospitals can handle burns esp dis degree of burns... Wat happened to going to d teaching hosp wia dias certainly a burns unit after being ref frm one gen hosp? Instead dey chose to keep moving in d same level till her life was lost
Sum nairalanders are even suggesting 'TRIALS'... Making trials with human lives wen dia are centres dat specializes in d treatment is WICKED

does doctors have the right to reject patience in critical conditions?
Environment and health care services are part of the determinants of health.
She would have survived it if accepted or referred.

Sad news its only the life of the elites that matters and they get treated abroad.
Nigerian life matters. I think the Lagos state Government should take this case up, investigate it and do something about it. the doctors need to know that life matters, the confidence of lagosian need to be restored. we have beautiful city, we need good health care services. this is sad and better imagined.
But you people not exactly you as a person are the same people that will jump on folks like us that critizises the same elite when they fly themselves and their families abroad, for example the recent Yusuff accident where Nlanders were begging them to fly him abroad while if they get in the same accident they will be dead in 24hrs in Nigerias General hospitals or even worse rejected. We are our own worst enemy.

Something is wrong with the story.

Why keep moving from one GH to another? Why not LUTH, LASUTH or better still NOH igbobi?

Pity most of us have very little idea of how healthcare works.

The lady had 3RD DEGREE burns for Ikoro's sake. Mortality is high even in specialised units in the UK or John Hopkins.

Not to talk of long term complications like Renal failure, contractures.

Fact is that most tertiary hospitals in Nigeria cannot handle a burn patient of this degree.

Very funny when people complain about hospitals doctor bashing starts. Please don't bash the politicians you defend cos they are your people. Keep bashing doctors and nurses. Most Nigerians get off on that

Soon, you would have no one to bash.

Rest in peace Lady. Pity you were born in a land where all hope is gone.

Nigerian public health system is dead. I weep when I think about it cos the pain is still fresh. This was how they were rejecting my dad when his heart failed. They took him to state hospital, Akure, from there they reffered him to FMC Owo. FMC said they are not taking him. We took him to Gani fawehinmi teaching hospital in Ondo. They said they won't open till 9.am. When they eventually opened, they took a scan and said they cannot admit him. So we took him back to State hospital, Akure. A family member eventually used his connection to get them to admit him but it was too late. He had been unconscious for 7 hours. He died in his daughter's arms
