So if Abuja has all these, why would someone still want to live in Lagos? undecided

affordable decent housing, better security, functioning social services, better job opportunities, better enlightenment as alot of people in abuja including their high class, are joo. i have stayed there and i know what i am saying. better exposure, better govt that is very forward looking (THIS IS NOT A LIE AND I CANT STRESS IT ENOUGH). abuja is still creating itself, it atill cannot be compares to lagos, forget it!

hello.
i cam see alk the deluded people here claiming abuja is better than lagos on so many grounds. thats a lir!!

the only area i think abuja beats lag is in the affordability of tp and not too congested roads. apart from that, lagos beats abj hands down in all other areas, especially security. ABUJA IS JUST AN OVERHYPED CITY, RND OR DISCUSSION.

i will return back to the thread on saturday or sunday when i will have all the time in the world to debuk that big lie many peoplr have come to believe.

apart from roads, which is already been fixed in lagos, abuja has NO OTHER ADVANTAGE OVER LAGOS.

Roget u..I spend friday to sunday at elegushi royal beach. Cnt get that in Abj

Cost of living is cheap in Abuja OP depending on the part, same as Lagos. Places like Suleja, lugbe, Kubwa, nyanya, apo, karimo, jahi, kado-kuchi, jabi-village, dutse,

houses are cheaper in those places, but maitama, asokoro, Central Area, gwarrimpa, wuse, are costlier just like lekki Ajah ikoyi etc

Mr, I just bought a bottle of Pepsi for 100# here in Lekki, and it used and have always been 150 at Ikotun.
Consequently, not all things are cost in the islands

you should ask yourself why Lagos remains Nigeria's flag ship city. Lagos is a entire culture of its own! all the things Nigeria is knoen for, especially Abroad, were birthed in lagos. LAGOS SHAPES NIGERIA, NIGERIA DOSENT SHAPE LAGOS.

LAGOS GIVES NIGERIA ITS IDENTITY, PERIOD!

I can't possible imagine how low you think....nobody is talking about if Lagos is shaping Nigeria or not.....or u don't read before making comments...you have to understand the basis of this thread which is between abuja or Lagos which is preferable to stay...

TRY THINK AND MAKE URSELF USEFUL

Abuja is far far better than Lagos, how can u just compare the two together? I have stayed in lagos before and currently now, i stay in abuja. I do tell my clients when i was in lagos that i cant stay in lagos for a very long time if i want to live long. Please, stop comparing lagos with abuja.

You are right. If you not staying inside FCT, things are not expensive. Even food in Abuja is cheaper.

Accomodation is far cheaper in Abuja than Lagos. There are suburbs that you will still get descent accommodation under 400k for a 2 bedroom flat and if you factor security. road network and general serenity, Abuja trumps Lagos. How much is a flat in Egbeda going for now? 500-600K!

Abuja has the best road network in Nigeria and transportation in Abuja is far cheaper than Lagos. You can get a drop from Kubwa to the Airport for 2,500k - a distance of more than 50km! That is twice the distance from Oshodi to Apapa. How much does it cost to take a drop from Apapa to V.I? Or those your useless wooden chair danfos that cost about 400 naira from Allen to Obalende?

Abuja may not have a high density of oloshos but olosho still dey and far better than those smelly Lagos girls. Because I know what you meant by night life you are referring to Olosho joints.

Talk of joints and you have a retinue of serene gardens and parks you can go and relax. Security also makes Abuja far better than Lagos. Out of boredom when I first arrived Abuja, I will leave my then resident at Lugbe FHA and drive to Wuse 2 around 2am. Can I try that nonesene in omota lagos?

Boys come to Abuja and become Men. Property business is booming and virtually any other venture. If you want a 9-5 remain in your urban jungle

You just spoke my mind. It couldn't have been poured out in a better way. I've worked in both Lagos and Abuja. In less than a year na me know how much I save compared to expensive danfos and lagos drops. Let's not even start with rents. OP try again.

OP, You Lied In Your Mode Of Transportation. In that area, don't compare Abuja and Lagos. Abuja mode of transportation is very organised and decent. No Touts or Agberoes. Good road network in Abuja than Lagos...

When I was in Lagos, I woke up 4am to work and got home in 11pm but here in Abuja I walk up 6:30am to work then get home 6.00pm or 6:30pm
Op, before you say anything, I have experience in both places
The op got it wrong on transportation. Am presently in Lagos for a project. My brother, from Oshodi to Lekki, which is distance like from Suleja to Wuse/Berger is 400 Naira and could be higher, whereas Suleja to Wuse/Berger is about 200 or at most 250 Naira.

in fact, I was surprised when I climbed okada from Ikeja along to Olugbo area and the Okada man charged me 300 Naira. What about the narrow roads that are common in Lagos? What about the monster of thing called traffik hold ups at every point in Lagos?

Lagos may be very stressful to live in terms of transport mobility, but the state is making a huge progress in road construction.
Food is expensive in Lagos because of the cost of transporting food items from the north, but it’s still manageable.
If Lagos state continues on this path, it’s going to compete favorably with all the perks of Abuja planned city.

Lagos needs to fix more BRT dedicated lanes and provide more buses. It’s the most lively city in Nigeria so far. One should be able to catch BRT by 1am from Surulere to go clubbing in Festac without any fears.

I will still give it up for Lagos because no city in the world is capable of managing over 20m people like Lagos is doing.

Both cities have pros and cons. If you are a young upcoming entrepreneur then it’s better to start from Lagos because Lagos prepares you for life.

Lagos transportation can be relieved by massive train transit which is way overdue for a crowded city. Lagos state needs a very good train system that works like New York City. Traffic on the weekend except on Friday is not bad, just on the weekdays. Lagos still lacking behind for a megacity.

You made some good points. However, Lagos can never compete with Abuja in terms of cheap foodstuffs. This is because Abuja is situated right in the middle of the foodbelt of Nigeria and it is quite easily accessed by farmers from neighbouring states where farming activities are highest in Nigeria.
Unless Southwestern states start competing with the north in terms of farming, then I don't see how Lagos will have cheaper food than Abuja.

Transportation will also continue to remain very cheap in Abuja cos most of the locals who engage in transportation business are not greedy like their southern counterparts, they tend to be very content with what they receive. Well maybe cos the Agbero culture is non-existent over there.
Can Lagos state get rid of the agbero culture? I don't think so.

Lastly, just as Lagos state is working too, don't think that FCTA are folding their hands and sleeping.. They are working seriously to integrate Abuja satelite towns to the main town with a better road network and infrastructural development.

Lagos will only continue to beat Abuja in terms of Job availability cos Abuja has no seaport. Nothing else.

There is also pollution in every form. Noise, air and water pollution.

When I left Lagos for Abuja my health returned. I used to suffer from persistent Bronchitis and was always fatigued.

I have since regained my health.

Abuja has it's faults mostly around the useless Ab0ki demons but I can safely say that Lagos is by far the worst place to live, work and raise a family on the planet.
