We are not where we want to be in rice production but we are making progress in that line. Look at Kebbi state, Anambra State and Sokoto state where rice cultivation has been optimized. The jobs created, the wealth distributed, the FOREX we are saving.

The economy will be better for it. If you want to crash the price of cars today, simply open your borders, remove duties and watch the price fall but what happens to people like Innoson? Prices of commodies can be cheap but it does the economy no good
Mynd44, you know very well that people like FFK and Reno (Wendell) Omokri have their customers whose version of truth is anything that will paint this administration in a bad light.

Rice was 8,000 at what price? No job was created for local farmers and you were using FOREX you didnt have to make countries like Thailand richer.

With more rice farmers growing the product and more mills, the price can only come down but the money stays in Nigeria and create Nigerian jobs.

The only silly person is you. And your silliness is monumental and potentially life-threatening.

So we should create jobs for farmers at whose expense? The expense of Nigerians who are already overwhelmed with high prices of everything else? Is it more important to create jobs for a few profiteering farmers (who lack the capacity to meet market demand) or to make food available for cheap to the generality of Nigerians?

The idea that creating jobs for farmers would ultimately lead to lower prices is idiotic. It is similar to the idea that characters like you espoused for removing fuel subsidy... That 'market forces' would force down the price of fuel. How far with that today?

So with your economic analysis which of the two is more people friendly economics.
If Jonathan had kept the dollars like the slowpoke up there, Buahri won't have a country to govern now
No forex to keep the naira that strong anymore. That was why sane people kept crying out when the last administration was sharing the last of our dollars reserves which should have been used to keep the naira competitive.

When Obasanjo took over in 1999, oil price was low. it was so low to the point where it even dropped to $11 per barrel at a time. Throughout all of Obasanjo's 8 years in government, not once did oil hit above $80 per barrel. in fact, most of the time, they were using $30 something to $40 something per barrel as oil price benchmark for the budgets, yet we were not hearing Obasanjo whine and complain that he couldn't accomplish much because of LOW OIL PRICES.

IN THE MIDST OF THE SUPPOSED LOW OIL PRICES THROUGHOUT OBASANJO'S TENURE, HE EXECUTED A LOT OF PROJECTS WE COULD SEE EVEN WITH CORRUPTION STILL GOING ON. IN THE MIDST OF THE LOW OIL PRICES UNDER OBASANJO, HE CLEARED OFF NIGERIA'S FOREIGN DEBT THAT WAS OVER $30 BILLION!

OBASANJO ACCOMPLISHED ALL THESE WITH LOWER OIL PRICES THAN TODAY AND CORRUPTION STILL HAPPENING IN NIGERIA, SO PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY WE HAVE THIS LEVEL OF INFLATION AND DECADENCE IN OUR ECONOMY WITH BUHARI SUPPOSEDLY "FIGHTING CORRUPTION"?

Stop using fuel as a comparison. If we refined our own oil for petrol we would not be talking about subsidy or high prices. Importing what you can manufacture on your own is foolishness. Why should we have oil without the means of refining it?

Do you know how much enters certain pockets illegally due to this subsidy issue? This is why many do not want our refineries to work.

Regarding agriculture, its a known phenomenon that when there is much of something available and is more than the need, then in a bid to sell off, sellers deliberately crash their prices. This is not rocket science.

Worse case scenario a stiff price regulation is implemented. We need to stop encouraging short term policies and a lazy mans approach to things in this country. We all should be wiling to pay the price for growth and comfort. This does not come cheap. It takes patience, work and more work and finally sacrifice. Under an honest leader, all the patience, work and sacrifice would be worth it and for sake of economic direction and policies so far I give buharis government a 90% rating. Everyone else can say what they want but we need to start from somewhere eventually, and we have!

You are very much an Ekpa for not knowing that we are still importing rice under this government and that they have not done anything radical beyond what Akinwumi started under the Jonathan administration.

In this era of Buhari, Nigeria is borrowing yearly more than Jonathan earned from oil yearly.
That is why, whereas Jonathan never budgeted more than N4 trillion yearly, Buhari has twice
budgeted more than N6 trillion. It simply means the revenue profile now is even more robust
in spite that Buhari is mortgaging Nigeria with debt again.

So with this scenario, compare what Jonathan delivered with what Buhari is delivering now.

wirinet:
It is annoying when supposedly educated men talk like vulcanisers. Is reno saying he did not offer or pass economics 101 in school?

Is renowned omokri saying he has not heard of such terms like inflation rate, revenue profile, population rate, exchange rate, etc?

What was the revenue profile of Nigeria during president Jonathan's time and what is the revenue profile now? How did the CBN keep the naira down during Jonathan's period? It is by auctioning dollars twice every week. Now where is the Buhari administration going to get the dollars to keep the naira low now? Reno and his supporters can help by exporting something and earning dollars. It will help in meeting some dollar demand by dollar hungry Nigerians.

Nigeria has an average inflation rate of 12% - 14%, if Reno does not understand what this means, I will explain. It means prices of goods and services are expecting to increase an average of 12 - 15% every year. This means prices of all goods including rice is expected to double every 7 to 8 years.

If we were to follow Reno 's logic, then Abacha was a superstar compared to Jonathan. During Abacha's period petrol was N11 per litre, dollar was about N30 per dollar and rice was less than N500 per bag.

I am not saying Buhari is performing well, but Reno and his party should learn to criticise intellectually instead of talking like garage touts.

With people like you and @madridguy roaming a part of this planet called Nigeria, I'm not surprised we have a nepotistic, clueless, blood-sucker of "dogs & baboons" as President. Tell me what type of "high oil price" causes such kind of inflation and job losses as we have seen under Buhari since he took over? Who are you trying to deceive?

There have only been two countries I know of in recent years that suffered the kind of inflation and loss of jobs we have seen under Buhari - those two countries are;
1) Zimbabwe
2) Venezuela

Guess what? both countries suffered these things as a direct result of government policies! Zimbabwe's Mugabe decided to attack white farmers and redistribute their farms to black people, forgetting that those white farmers were the backbone of the economy. After effect? The economy crashed and a roll of tissue paper became more valuable than $1,000,000 Zimbabwean dollars.

In Venezuela, the government decided to impose regulations they felt would further consolidate their socialist ideologies, and guess what? The economy crashed and people are dying of malnutrition and starvation now in Venezuela.

Anybody who claims Nigeria's economic problems under Buhari was caused by low oil prices is either a chronic liar or an ignoramus! How much is oil price now? within the past few weeks, oil price has remained within the $60 - $80 per barrel price range. At its lowest price within the last 3years, oil has stayed above $20 per barrel, and it didn't stay that low for more than a few weeks before heading back to $40 and above.

You're very informed and informed people are difficult to deceive.
The biggest excuse by this govt to hide their gross incompetence is low oil price propaganda.
Unfortunately for this APC govt, not everyone will be fooled by their lies. Nigeria's second coming to recession under buhari has little to do with low oil price. Nigeria fell into recession because of buhari's ancient command and control economy where he exhibited his usual incompetence by banning dollar depositions and withdrawals in banks in his usual desperate bit to make naira equal to the dollar without economic production. This led to a high demand of dollars, leading to the crash of the naira from 210/dollar to over N400/dollars within a short period. Then came dollar cabals runned by buhari's people who enterd the scene. With dollar becoming scares no thanks to buhari's outdated economic command and control policy and dollar scam run by his people that made them billionaires over night, economic activities started crumbling. Why did economic activities started crumbling? Because manufacturers and factory owners could no longer access dollars for their production. With time industry owners started closing shop. Before you could say jack, Recession came knocking. Why did recession come? Because there was a fall in economic activities.
This is the truth APC rudderless govt are trying to hide from Nigerians. The funny aspect of this is that in the early days of buhari's govt interference in Nigeria's foreign exchange policy as soon as they were sworn in, PDP warned in strong terms about buhari's outdated dollar policy, but of course, their warning fell on deaf ears. What was the result? Recession!
Nigeria's fall into recession was self inflicted by no other than APC govt under buhari.

It is down to the dullard's stupidity and not fall in the price of crude. All what you wrote there is nonsense because booohari increased fuels price and still pays subsidy on top and still there is scarcity. Can anyone beat such incompetence?

As much as I have issues with Jonathan and his government, the excuses people are raising to justify what is happening under PMB is wrong. World over government provides subsidies for citizens. Till date the American government is still subsidizing food by buying from farmers high and selling cheap, Chinese government is giving farmers negative loans i.e. borrow #100 and pay back #98. So, that government was subsidising is not stupid management rather saving only and not investing in human capital is the worst economic plan you can imagine. We now have $45b is reserve as claimed yet Naira is not improving. After claiming to spend over 500B alone in 2017 budget on capital projects it's clearly not evident but GEJ that VP claimed spent 90B on capital projects still fixed Benin-Ore road section, Abuja airport road, Kubwa express in Abuja, 10million MT of grains reserved and new silos built.

Nigerians enough of this deceit. APC is taking us for a fool no excuses. They either show us where they are keeping our billions or go to hell.
