one extra month. But most employers terminate appointments without paying such too.
Except in cases of dismissal for criminal reasons, you must be paid one month in lieu. It's because they know most employees don't know how to enforce their rights.

That 45 days notice is too long, I know of 30days you should tender a resignation letter immediately and be prepared to refund the unmerited salary.

That's exploitation. You should be entitled to your full pay as long as you worked those hours. A few years ago, I started a second job in order to make extra cash. I quit after a couple of days because I hated the job and it was not my main occupation. I still got paid for the hours I worked. In developed countries, you are not required to return your salary earned, even if you don't give them enough notice and you can sue if the company withholds your pay.

As much as this can earn him instant sack, it is advisable not to thread that path cause it is a bad report against him.
Discuss with them. If they insist on your giving them a month, two months or even three months of the salaries they have paid you, then do the maths. If you subtract such from your new salary, how much remains?

Ok let's say I want to resign from a job and I give my employer a month's notice prior to the date I am leaving, am I entitled to my salary for that last month?

You should be entitled to your full salary for the last month as long as you work those hours. All this business of refunding last month's salary is just companies exploiting their employees. I can't believe no one in the government has thought it necessary to pass legislation to stop this exploitative action by employers.

You are not a honourable person if you were employed under those conditions and you're already busy looking for another job.

Leave that talk. Are companies loyal to their employees? When an employer is seeking to replace you, will they inform you?

We usually calculate wages here on monthly basis it is no work no pay rule, so it's rounded off to the next month, most contracts for public sector staff here say 1month salary in lieu of writing.

That's why employers will keep treating employees like trash in Nig. The documents you signed are legal and binding, in a saner clime you dare not try such if you don't want to forfeit both jobs and still pay for damages.

In saner climes, you get paid for every hour you worked, even if you don't give the required notice. The only thing the company will do is blacklist you. The only time you may refund money to a company is if they pay you a signing on bonus and you don't stay with them for the stipulated amount of years. Or if they pay your tuition costs or professional membership fees. There's no way they would ask you to refund your last month's salary just because you didn't give them enough notice.

Even if it's on a monthly salary, you would still get your full month's pay as long as you worked the full month. Even if you quit in the middle of the month, your salary will be pro-rated. Labour laws are very stringent and there's no way an employer will exploit an employee, especially if the job is legal.

There is no rule of law here, we live in a Banana Republic and things could yet get worse, people get laid off at work for dissenting opinion, talk more of private sector employees, my initial suggestion was to avoid fracas with the employer.

Getting sacked from your workplace only happens when you don't add value to the company. Value is key. Once you have the right skill, you can always add value to any organization.

That is the reason I ask every young graduate out there to improve their self-worth.

These are the ways to increase your self worth. You will smile at the end.

If after reasonably talking to your boss and he refused to understand, take the following steps.

1.Day 1: Whenever you see him coming close to your desk, place one of your legs on your desk and quickly switch the screen to computer games.

2. Day 2: Go to work half drunk and half awake and let it be so glaring that you are really drunk.

3. Day 3: open all chats and keep chatting most of the day. Open your Facebook account and keep chatting.

4. Day 4. Intentionally call in sick

5. Day 5. Intentionally get to work very late

Your boss will fire you before day 5. grin grin

I don laugh tire. To make it more interesting, begin to watch pon on your desktop. Believe you me it will be faster than you think. grin

Neither of the jobs is in fact good. In the first job, why will the quit notice be 45 whole days...hello! In the latter, resume instantly like wtf? Not like 2 weeks to 1 month gap? Are they both one-man coys?
