See, we should be talking about technical support. That is the most important thing.

@ www.lagoshost.com, we currently get our server from theplanet and that is the same place companies like hostgator and other get theirs.

Nigerian hosting companies should focus more on support and more space.

In lagoshost, we give that support and space.

Cheers!

Does anybody know webhosting in nigeria that resell hostgator account? I'm really interested. From reviews, I'll prefer to go with hostgator resellers in Nigeria. Thanks.

HostGator is a good host but there are other host company that are better than hostgator in some aspects. My host company www.internetvisa.net runs on Litespeed which is way faster than Apache that HostGator uses. I don't think you should be interested in a host that resells hostgator hosting rather you should look out for the company reselling it. That they resell for hostgator does not mean that you're going to get the same quality of service.

I am currently working on settin up my first local hosting server. It will run on linux (centos). I am already putting together the other apps that will work with it. I want to assure you that we are capable of running our own hosting companies here in Nigeria.

I have been with a supposedly standard foreign hosting company that have dissappointed me in the past. This is the time to for all of us that have dedicated servers and VPSes located outside to synergise towards building our own datacenters across the nation as fibre begins to push into the hinderlands.

The problem and failure of banks involvement and government policies to encourage these area of investment is getting more worrisome by the day, reason the sector can hardly crawl.

Some corporate organisations here in Nigeria are now beginin to run mission critical services that require loads of space and they want to see their apps to face in their server rooms. ERP apps are run locally now and so will higher size applications and content management systems be run locally soon too.

We can do this, we only need people who understand these technologies in the right offices in Goverment to get it to work!

CAn you guys imagine how much we lose to foreign host companies every year. I did a rough estimate based on my own spendings ( I currently spend about 400k on webhosting for 1yr), now we have other VPS owners like myself with higher spaces, hosting resellers, individual buyers of spaces and companies here in Nigeria using spaces for whatever they require them for.

Now lets just assume that there are only 2000 in the whole of Nigerian with dedicated servers that cost them 400k per yr to maintain leaving everyone else (resellers, personal users, Companies) we have about 800million per yr.

If an average domain space for a website is 50mb at the cost of N2,000 and there are just 1million websites in Nigeria (more than that registred at CAC and a whole lot more online that are not even registred with CAC), not to mention sites that run gB amd TB of work online and those running cloud computing services.

It is my take and am certain that foreign hosting companies cart away not less than 50Billion Naira to their countries at the peril of local hosting businesses.

How will our youths find jobs when the jobs that can be made available have been outsourced to foreign companies by our very selves without knowing. It is SAD a tale to tell,

I prefer the foreign ones like Hostgator.com

The nigerian ones have issues most times. sad

What about prices? Which is the cheapest: 9ja or foreign?
I get shared host from whogohost for as low as #400 per month for their lowest package. I want to try foreign but it appears expensive when I convert their currency to naira.

Any tips from you?
