Where did you get this information about Canada from? This is too general and truth is that people may not get their dream jobs immediately nonetheless, people get settled at different times.

Please read carefully what I wrote. Simple comprehension but let Me break it down; Without Canadian Degrees in a labour/ skill/ worker shortage occupation and Canadian experience, It would be almost impossible to get a Middle class paying job in Canada.

Canada does not recognize Professional qualifications from third world countries. Even Nigerian medical professors and specialists do not have their nigerian degrees and qualifications accepted or recognized for practice or medical work in Canada.

If You have another opinion, let the thread know

Canadian University education and Canadian work experience like internship is what is generally most times accepted by Canadian employers for middle class Canadian jobs

That is not the true picture of things and that was why I was asking you where you got your information from.

Ok are You in Canada working a professional career job not menial job without a Canadian Certificate. Bros Even Doctors and Nurses have to retrain in Canada to work in their profession whether they trained in UsA or not of which USA trained are sometimes in very few cases like( I.T or company transfer employees)given exceptions

If You have other facts , prove them.

An.individual can have a simple life in Canada in domestic jobs which are not a crime but it is almost possible to enter Canada as an immigrant not on company transfer and get a Canadian middle class job without Canadian or American Training

Note; Someone doing domestic work in Canada can save more than a Bank manager in Nigeria but by Canadian standards is not Canadian middleclass

This is a really educative thread.

I'm in a similar position as the op.

Please permit me to seek for sincere advice as well.

I am a registered nurse, midwife, public health nurse. I have PGDE, BNSc as well as MSc Nursing. I'm almost done with my Ph.D (Nursing). I'm a lecturer in a federal university in the south.
I'm 33years old, married with 2kids (7 and 2 years old).
My husband is a medical doctor and 42years old working with the state government.

We are planning to relocate to either USA, Canada or Australia.
MAJORLY because of our children's future.

Is it advisable?

I am in Canada and I have friends who have great jobs in their various fields without Canadian education. Although, some had to start from menial jobs and there are some who after graduation had to pick survival jobs.

Very good advice, you have gotten here. I live in the US and have lived for over a decade, I also work in the health care field. If the visa lottery was still in effect then I would have highly recommended the US. US has has more job opportunities, generally pay more and more easier to set up business here. But since the visa lottery is no longer in effect for Nigerians, getting green card these days is very tough. Visa over staying is very big problem and it's going to be very very hard to move around in this present day with out papers. For that reason , I would recommend Canada, at least that the opportunity to get citizenship is more achievable and can be done so in a more timely manner.

You started on a good note.

If you want meaningful advice, you're need to take out those names as they ain't so relevant in your context.

There is time for humor.

I feel Your kids should go and use the study route or else your wife relocates with them

Canada has only odd jobs for immigrant adults except You go back to canadian University as an adult to spend years and big money to study health care or I.T courses to increase (not guarantee) your chances of getting a middle class job in Canada.

So you make the money here in Naija while your family takes the opportunity there ( abroad). My opinion

Dont live apart from your family. It is either all or no one. The future is there when your children will be completely different from the training you have given them. You may even not be able to live with your wife in future becos of different exposure

The big question is;

Should I relocate the entire family .....or should I relocate wife and kids only while I remain here and continue the hustle?

Honest answer. Relocate with your entire family.
Nigeria is a terrible place to raise kids with the deteriorating moral and socio-economic conditions.

Countries you should look into:

1. Sweden - low crime, good healthcare
2. Netherlands - Multi cultural society
3. Canada - all the good reasons
4. Switzerland - low crime, thriving economy, multicultural society

Pls consult your wife. Nigeria is a NO-NO!

You are wrong. Laird has summed it up for you. I have relations and lots of friends and classmates in Canada and I do not want to repeat some of the stories here. In case you do not know, cost of living in Canada is quite high and as a elderly immigrant without a Canadian education or knowledge of French, it will be a lot harder.

I can't believe Australia and US are even on the list
have you heard of the new racist phenomenon going on in both countries thanks to Donald Trump and his global populist movement - A clue for you is that Canada is one of the countries resisting that evil movement!

To emigrate or not is the question here.

I need very mature advice and inputs as regards a situation I am trying to resolve.

In the last two yearsI have been thinking seriously about relocating my entire family abroad but I am still held back by indescision.

Just this afternoon I made a decision to throw it open on Nairaland Travel section. I am sure the mature contibutions that flow forth here will help me to a large extent to take a final decision on which direction the pendulum swings.

Please note that my wife is indifferent as per where we are. She just wants us to be together peacefully. She is also not a very ambitious person inthe ense thay she does not really aspire to be Folorunsho Alakija or Dangote's wife. She is very satisfied with being an average, comfortable upper middle class citizen anywhere in the world provided there is peace.

I am the money man with a lot of ambition and an undying aspiration to beat (or at least compete favourably with Aliko Dangote.
I will come harsh before you see what you like. If you want to be like Dangote, you have to be in Nigeria. Did Dangote emigrate? How many billionaires in Nigeria emigrated? Likes of Oviosu of paga had to relocate back to Nigeria. It’s not easy for a Nigeria to become a Dangote in the US. You can live average like your wife envisage, I mean you can live well. There is nothing wrong with emigration but what is your motivation. In assessing your motivation check your background. It is not strange that likes of Elon Musk and many successful founders are emigrants but if you check well, they emigrated at a very early age- childhood to teenage and are from saner climes. The rich Nigerians abroad have a good pedigree. I mean they went to the ivy leageues or had successful parents. If you are emigrating as a family man, you must have a very brilliant idea, some good money and a strong network to become Dangote abroad. It’s not easy starting a business as a foreigner. I have been there so my words are from experience. If your ambition is to be Dangote, you should stay back. If your ambition is to be okay with thousands of dollars, abroad is good for you.

Chai see question. I don't think you are serious to relocate. Are you happy with what is happening in Nigeria? Is that the life you want to give your children were you have no say on who governs you but the illiterate and agbero in the street wields more power than you. Where it is okay to shed blood on daily basis and the perpetrator is not apprehended. Like I said I don't think you are serious even considering the fact you have lived in UK from childhood and you don't want your children to flourish like you did. You better start filling your visa form. Even if it is Estonia just leave that place.

Forget about that route, we usually see that investment route from Chinese and Indian investors. $500,000 is about 182,135,000.00 Naira. The average Nigerian does not have that money. Even those that do would not be able to apply because they would have provide legitimate means of how they got the money.

A little background to aid your objectivity.....
I am a 47 year old Nigerian with a 43 year old wife. Married 13 years. Three kids; 12, 9 and 6.

I have a degree in humanities while she has a HND in Admin.

We are both involved in hustling in Lagos, Nigeria. The hustle hasn't paid off big time yet but we get by with about 3- 5 Mill earnings annually. We used to do much more than that until 3 years ago.

I have had significant international exposure having lived in UK as a child and also bisited all continents in the last 5 years.

Almost 50 years still on transit, wahala dee.

Weather abroad or Nigeria, Boss ensure you stay with ur family. Your children are still young. Keep them close with u and so is your wife. Just keep praying well so that ur wealth funds u wherever u are.

Actually most Nigerian billionaires emigrated, they have homes abroad that they spend more time in than Nigeria!
Dangote and Otedola are not in Nigeria 60% of the time!
