I'm single at the moment and I'm 27 years of age..does it just involve going to Canada embassy here in Nigeria and applying for that?

I have a two friends from school who are in Canada as doctors. It may be easier using a specialist pathway via UK or Singapore. Straight movement to Canada as a doc from here is a lot more difficult.

Hmmmm
This is a really educative thread.

I'm in a similar position as the op.

Please permit me to seek for sincere advice as well.

I am a registered nurse, midwife, public health nurse. I have PGDE, BNSc as well as MSc Nursing. I'm almost done with my Ph.D (Nursing). I'm a lecturer in a federal university in the south.
I'm 33years old, married with 2kids (7 and 2 years old).
My husband is a medical doctor and 42years old working with the state government.

We are planning to relocate to either USA, Canada or Australia.
MAJORLY because of our children's future.

Is it advisable?

Please I'm not mocking him, why should I? I'm only giving advice that might not be palatable because I didn't sugar coat things. He might be lucky to make it big abroad too, we need to view from both sides not only good but also bad, I'm showing him the reality of things without luck and favor, abroad might work for him or it might not. A lot has been posted about the good, let's also tell the not too good. OP, whatsoever you decide, may God grant you success and fulfilment
Oh okay, better put now.

I didn't like when u mentioned that his mates are landlords and some have streets named after them, it sounded like mocking and he may understand it wrongly and slip into depression.

Anyway, now I understand your point better, thanks for clarifying

Move your whole family asap to Melbourne, Australia and you will come back and thank me...same advice I gave 3 good friends 3 yrs ago and they call me every month from Melbourne and Sydney to show their gratitude.

Does not matter whether na akata or oyinbo. Most of them that agree to marry Nigerians for papers are low income people and have poor mindset. Not advisable at all.

I will be very honest with you since you want an honest suggestion and I'll be using my location as example. If you move with your family to the States without any of you having green card or citizenship, read my lips, you'll suffer and most likely will regret it. This your peaceful family will experience a serious crack and trust me, women aren't built to endure too much suffering so your wife may throw in the towel along the line . If you're coming to hustle, come here as a single man, hustle and go get your family though it will take time but that's the best way.

OP please take this advice seriously. This is what happens to majority of our naija men who relocate

Unless you get a permanent resident card of whatever nation you choose before leaving Nigeria, DO NOT ATTEMPT IT. You will regret it. Stay in Nigeria. Out of the people that did what you are proposing only a select few made it/ended up being up. Some people can no longer see their families because either the husband was refused a visa to come back in or deported. You do not want to be an Illegal in any country. I repeat, FORGET IT. Only do it if you have permanent residency of that county/Immigrant visa before leaving Nigeria. You have been warned. There are Nigerian families that are homeless in various countries all over.

Did you not see the recent videos of families leaving the U.S, crossing over to Canada? Do not attempt it. Enjoy what you have in Nigeria. In Nigeria, you have family and friends that will take you in when katakata bursts. Abroad, you will be rendered homeless in less than 24 hours because everyone minds their own wahala.

this man just saved you from impending suicide when you go abroad. a word of advise for you

everyone encouraging you to travel now who live in canada or USA, please ask for their phone number, get a visa and you go visit them and stay with or around them for just 3 days and return to Nigeria, you will realize the tragedy you have saved your family from when you get back to Lagos!

with her profile, she is good to go.

All she needs now is to prepare well and write IELTS and come with something higher than 6.5 in all 4 bands.

Then she can sign up with some agencies recruiting nurses who would sponsor her NCLEX.

Also she can still enroll into a school there for masters in a nursing specialty course like ICU, Anaesthetic, etc and I bet u before she graduates, she will get hired and the organization will file for her.

She is okay with her nice profile

OP my advise to you is this.

If you take a poll here, (to go or not to go, or even where to go between US, Canada, etc), you will have naysayers and supporters in equal measure.

If you are relocating with your family, you need to know what visa category will cover you, what you will do for money, cost of living, etc. Do not leave Naija without a standing business or income earning endeavour here. I mean a business that operates with a structure and not one that is based around your presence. So when you leave, it is from a position of strength and not weakness.

Secondly, take the plunge first. Do not yank your kids and wife off their school and work here to the land of the unknown. Know the industries or sectors where there are skills shortages and prepare yourself here ahead of time. For instance, Norway and Finland has high demand for forklift operators and truckers. So if you were to go there, consider equipping yourself with the necessary certifications to do such work while you scout for your dream job.

You should also identify what you want to do for money. Do you ultimately want to work or own a business? Each country has rules and visa criteria for such endeavours. Know these in advance and prepare accordingly.

Study the threads for different countries here. There is loads of information for the countries of your choice.

That's mega bucks for some families here in Lagos.

But at his age shouldn't he be earning more than that?

Just wondering?

If earning corresponds to the age of the earner . . . . Kids wont have to support parents. besides 3M per year in Nigeria is a very good income but all depends on management of that fund

Its not his fault that he didn't make it big on time like his mates u mentioned and life is not a race, some will start early, but end up fast, some will start late, pick up late and finish best.

Some will start excellently, continue excellently but finish woefully!

Some will start slowly, continue slowly and finish excellently!

Some will start slowly, continue excellently and finish averagely.

We all have our timing in life.

Obama became president at 50s while Trump became president at 70s.

Yaradua became president at 50s and died at 50s while Buhari became president at 70s and still alive.

Bro.... let's reason. For starters....don't ever consider spending time at a place as a visitor the same as living there. Moving on....your budget....N10M in two years time....I'm talking going to the US...the States with the most opportunities are usually the States with the highset Cost of Living. ..and that brings me to New York...NYC to be precise. That $30k will not be family friendly for long....$2000/month is reasonable...and we're talking rent only.Choose another State where rent is 'cheap'...transportaton will be the monster. Not only CoL you have to consider in making a decision. ..but also how immigrant friendly is that State. You should know immigrants are in the cross hairs of the present administration ....some states are fully in support...a few including New York are opposed and are 'at war' with the FG...instructing their Police and other agencies not to cooperate with ICE. Moving on.... you are 47...your wife 43.... age will be against you...entering the race as a handicap.... communication difficulties, no US work history,..following? Jobs are not readily available for citizens nor PR...so what would be your chances ?..how long will it take?
You are already living comfortably in Naija...your wife contented...your family as a unit. Truth be told....your chance of making it period...let alone making it big...has long past. Any plans for emigrating...not you nor your wife should be the focus...your kids...to give them a better opportunity to make a better life in the future...wherever they may choose to live.

Lol, you think its that easy. You have no idea what you are talking about. I'm a registered nurse. There are no master speciality courses like ICU. ICU is intensive care unit, thats a hospital unit. Tell me why an organization would file for here, which includes them spending more money and time to file for her. When there are many American born and foreigners with their papers trained in this country who are ready to work. Not saying that job sponsorship does not happen these days but its mostly for people with extraordinary talents not for basic skills that can be acquired locally.

@op
Just save up money for your kids and let them study in USA , Canada or Australia. You have a very comfortable life in Nigeria with 3-5m per year; 5m per year is less than $20,000 per annum which makes you fall under low-income category in the USA. So if you migrate with that money you won’t be able to keep up with bills considering the fact that you have kids and a wife .

OP, consider things carefully.

At 47, you cannot afford to migrate anyhow. Especially with kids. You also cannot afford to leave them behind anyhow for your wife only to raise. The first two are close to their teenage years.

A relative migrated to Canada with his wife and five kids some years ago. To do his PhD. He had around 50k USD. Still it wasn't easy. Apparently he was struggling so much that hardly anyone heard from him. That was before Canada began to tighten up immigration.

Do not relocate your entire family with you yet unless you have a visa category that allows you to do so legally, stay and work legally. Otherwise study route, assuming you have plenty of money, might be best. Consider if you can study a post-grad course that qualifies as skill shortage category. That way you can stay more easily post-studies. Your wife can then pursue a health-care related course after that.
