mr fire needs to come down to lagos - thanks to brt, molues will gradually be phased out reminds me of nysc - i was stationed in ota - so every monday morning and friday afternoon , i would get on a coaster bus to ota. usually in the back, ensonced between some traders carrying mile high stacks of vegetables to market but hey - lookit me now! mr fire can stay in whatever backwater hamlet he is from - he will always get handouts from his peers in lagos when they come for christmas |

anyway for the uninformed we have different grades of transportation in lagos the new taxicabs latemodel - can cost up to 5k per drop - i think they use meteres now (mainly in vi from what i can see) your standard yellow cab - those too have grades as you have the clean ones and the almst broken down ones - 1-3k depending on your bargaining power and how muchh paper the driver thinks you have (ubiquotous) standard danfo - three rows of seats four per row , two in front conductor may or may not chose to reserve a seat for himself which means he is in the boot or his armpits are in your face (if u r by the door) when its raining, or when they approach some check points (ubiquotous) 'vonagon' danfo big vw bus four rows five per row (ubiquotous) coaster bus - the much older brothers to staff buses usually in areas like orile, mile 2 - don't see em in festac - some 10 rows or so, four or fie per row - have forgotten the big daddy molue - aka 33 sitting 66 standing or how them call am- travelling in public transport is often entertaining at least in lagos - u can see all sorts of drama - and you will realise most Nigerians are good people some crazies sha - i was in this bus where the woman tried to strangle the rive because he passed her drop - one day one man tried to strangle thsis woman - it was raining and se wouldn't close the window- this once all the passenger defended this policeman that the driver - a soldier was bullying the most dangerous times to ride danfo is around xmas i remember in 2004/5 they had to start searching passengers before we entered . of course tere's one chance as well. been a long time since i entered danfo - though i do okada wella - do i miss it - ot really - as a user of danfos, u like em - as a driver you HATE em eko for life resilience in the face of whiners |

That art work was in former MD's office in 2003, its not a real picture though Lagos was like that in the 90s. |

WHY SHOULD THE MODERATORS PERMIT A LIE TO BE PRESENTED AS TRUTH? THAT "MOLUE" BUS IMAGE WAS A DEPICTION FROM LAGOS IN THE PAST. I HAVE THE PICTURE IN MY LIBRARY TO SHOW MY CHILDREN AND OTHERS THE NIGHTMARISH "MOLUE" BUS TRANSPORT IN THOSE DAYS. BELOW ARE THE PRESENT PHOTOS OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT BUSES IN LAGOS TODAY.

Agibecky: God bless you. I would not have joined this thread , since I saw the ignorant contribution of the usual self-haters , if I had not seen your sensible and factual contribution. Wether the picture is real or not is irrelevant. That is not Lagos today. The picture you supplied is why some of us posit that Fashola has done wonders . He has changed the psyche of Lagosians to the extent that you see good conduct and orderly queues for buses everywhere, today. Do a wrong U-turn in Lagos today and you will curse yourself if caught. Now you cannot sit in front with a taxi driver without him barking at you to put your seatbelt on. Driving is now less chaotic than before and there is more volume and choice of transportation now than in the past - from the BRT (Blue buses) to the Lagos Buses (Red buses)to the new red taxis introduced under Fashola. Modern rail transport is on the way and the ten lane express way (to include one monorail line) is now physically under construction to link Lagos (from Eric Moore) to Badagry to facility the development of Badagry into an ultra-modern extension of Lagos that should see positive and beneficial migration out of Lagos. The LAWMA guys, in their orange overall, are everywhere cleaning up continously. I could go on. Suffice to say there is far more order and sanity in Lagos today than I have ever witnessed as a Lagosian !!!! Lagosians now conduct themselves with more dignity. It is not uhuru yet , and it won't be for a while with decades of decay and neglect to fight, but anyone who knows Lagos of the past (akin to that depicted in the original picture) , in comparison to Lagos of today, is doing Fashola a serious disservice if they come here to try and present a woeful image of the past to discredit so much positives that has been achieved. The picture supplied , if real, is not the Lagos of today and I can see nothing but mischief behind the motive of the thread starter. |

That is clearly an artist impression. Can someone tell me if the man trying to climb the bonnet whose half body was shown in the picture is also trying to get into the bus through the bonnet? The man entering the bus through the window, what did he use to propel himself to the window even as his right hand on the picture is holding on to nothing. |

Transportation in Lagos used to really bad and jumping into vehicles from windows was quite common in those days but since the danfo buses and BRT buses commenced operation things have really been good. People no longer fight to board buses, instead they queue nicely. That picture exagerates things a bit. |

Re: Welcome To The Real Lagos- Has BBC Seen This? by tpiah: 3:48pm On Jul 14, 2010 |
@ fl gators what are your observations, complaints, experiences, etc, with the lagos buses you found on google? btw, luxury buses have been around in nigeria for a while. the other thread was specifically discussing double decker buses, which used to be mainly found in britain. like kobojunkie pointed out , interstate luxurious buses arent commonly available in the southwest [besides lagos], i think. Maybe you can talk to some of these nairalanders [you never know which of them has connections] about convincing the big bus companies to include other western states besides lagos, in their destinations. |

^ will these buses be for commercial or public transportation? |
Re: Welcome To The Real Lagos- Has BBC Seen This? by Kobojunkie: 4:31pm On Jul 14, 2010 |
Luxury buses are now being adverstized as new introduction into the Nigerian market Na wa ooo!!! Anything for points these days !! Ileke-IdI: Well, those are state run transport service but the old molues and danfos are still out there. Lagos has a huge population and it will be a while before the government can cover the whole state with these. |

@tpia btw, luxury buses have been around in nigeria for a while.since igba o, 5-7yrs ago, I didnt scout any luxury buses in Nigeria. Yea, maybe becuz it wasnt introduced to SW yet. Kobojunkie:Why only Lagos? Lagos is not even important to me. These Governors need to get off their high horse and start doing something. |
Re: Welcome To The Real Lagos- Has BBC Seen This? by Kobojunkie: 5:58pm On Jul 14, 2010 |
Ileke-IdI: Definitely!!! It is just that Lagos is the only one I know that has, for the past 40 years, made real effort to actually develop itself. That is why I am not too keen to jump on the "Fashola is a god" bandwagon. I lived through so many governors, many of whom did what they could to outshine the previous. From way back in the 80's, living in Lagos was akin to living in London. it was awesome!!! lol |

dlox01: Seriously, I find this funny! Is it ok to make unproven declarations? A model in a glass box? Where is this so called model, is it at the museum in Onikan? Who made it? Was is Bruce Onobrakpayeya, Chike Onuorah or who? Why is there only one known photo of it? You should be able to answer every single one of the above questions, otherwise na rumours you de spread! Stop expelling hot air jare! Imagine, spreading b*llsh!t with confidence! |

Kobojunkie:Really? What changed? Apart from the excess garbage and fumes in the air. |
Re: Welcome To The Real Lagos- Has BBC Seen This? by Kobojunkie: 3:36am On Jul 15, 2010 |
Most everything changed. Even the attitude of the people to life changed. People gave up on values of old to get rich quick. The rich got richer and fatter, and the poor got poorer and more miserable. Worse they multiplied and population of poor exploded. Government went to the dogs and we lost it all. |

tpiah: Kobojunkie: Hmm. So basically you guys enjoyed the "Lagos Dream", while we . . . .nvm. Well, I'm hoping that Fashola and the next Gov to fix Lagos up, might be my retirement home lol |
Re: Welcome To The Real Lagos- Has BBC Seen This? by tpiah: 4:47am On Jul 15, 2010 |
^^why would you want to live somewhere you see nothing good in? florida's a retirement state- stay there and enjoy yourself wella wella jare. lagos is even overpopulated and according to some stories, is about to sink into the sea. so why rush there. |
