I agree,though I'd pick strength over agility any day.In my opinion mastiffs and LGDs make the best guard dogs.Smart agile dogs like malinois and gsd are better as police and military dogs.That's their primary purpose.They use them for brains not brawn.For guard dogs rotts,Caucasians,boerbels and the like come into play.But these malinois are agile! See that one climbing fence!

Its not all.Breeds like Caucasians and kangals fight to the end.I heard of a Caucasian that took down 3 men that came to steal, with a gunshot wound.Now that's spirit.Even a kangal that killed 3 wolves.Whereas gsd and malinois are better for tracking,running down and holding down targets until it's owner gets there.That's why they are police dogs .A Rottweiler or kangal will first of all demolish the target to their satisfaction before stopping.But you can easily call off a malinois from its target.So overall big strong dogs make better guard dogs than smaller faster dogs while the latter makes better working dogs.But they can still dabble in each other's jobs a bit.This is all my opinion before someone starts hurtling facts my way!

Following the current trend in the military zone recently , the malinois are taking over German Shepard cos of their drive and activeness and in fact they are working dogs .

Even do you know that German Shepard are in 3 categories .
I don’t think those backing Gsd knows these . And the working line are not for show or regular but hardly seen .

Let us do it this way, I will come to invade your house in a simulation of a real scenario, release your Caucasian or Rottwieller but put 50k at your doorstep. If I can go with the money, it is mine, if I'm attacked it's yours. How about that?

What most people don't understand about dogs is that, the rott, pit bulls, bullmastiffs and Co when they attack they bite once and clip you down. The athletic once like dobberman, Belgians and Co would just keep biting till you stop shouting which is impossible. So these dogs you see here are pure menace to intruders. I have seen a doberman take on Boer bull messlessly just because of another female Boer bull they brought to mate and it ended up mating the female after the fight with the giant male Boer bull. Bad market that day for the owners, she produced awkward mix breed

I dont want to start treating someone to prove a point.Caucasians and the like are better guard dogs than malinois and their kind but malinois and co are better working dogs.But they can still switch roles and excel at them.Reason this,if malinois are such excellent guard dogs why don't they use them to guard prisons and big buildings? They are smarter but it's not smartness that will take down well built men.That's what caucs rotts and boerbels were bred for.Brute strength.Not their intelligence.The people that use gsd at airports and barracks use them for intelligence and for the fact that they can be called off a chase.They are also more agile and faster than big strong dogs.But when it's time to fight they still fall back on big dogs.E.g. the battle of stalingrad in ww2.It is the deadliest battle in history.Caucasians fought alongside Russian soldiers in that war and took out machine gun positions.One bullet wasn't enough to bring them down.Can a malinois do that? but gsd and malinois are used as spies which Caucasian and mastiffs can't do due to their size and unintelligence.Do you get my point?

I know that gsd has different kinds.But seriously malinois is being overrated here.Especially their intelligence.They are still not more intelligent than gsd.It is faster and can run down criminals better than gsd.I think it also has better sense of smell.That's why they are overtaking gsd in the working dog role.But as for me I prefer gsd cos of the strength advantage though I can't deny malinois are very good working dogs.

Malinois is overrated but there are more Malinois dogs working in German police than a German Shepherd, that is very strange. The Russians have a caucasian but they will only use Malinois and GSD for their military work.

@oluomoadebayo before I say anything..just wanna say am a huge fan of ur work. Love ur dogs so much.

belgium Shepherd are more flexible and faster than most security dogs. they have d drive to to learn and are more focused during training. But I would rather go for a DDR because of they have all these qualities (not compared to d malinois tho) and are larger in size(I love huge dogs).
I don't think a pure bred Caucasian would back down from a fight.. I would have to disagree. they are bred to face wolves,bears etc. Caucasian are much stronger than a malinois and I personally prefer them to malinois in terms of guarding d compound.

they are recruiting d malinois becos of their speed, flexibility and ability to learn fast.but u can't see d Russians use a malinois to guard livestock from bears and wolves..they would simply ripp d malinois apart.
these dogs are bred for diff purposes... d Caucasian for their strength, bravery... d malinois for their speed,flexibility,intelligence and loyalty(thats what the police force look for in a dog)

My guy pls don't bring kangal into dis matter oo. Those dogs are beasts.. king of dogs ...they are strong, tall , huge with long canines and will fight to d death. they are also surprisingly fast for their size. I love those dogs
