Hard work Going extra mile (nobody ever becomes anything substantial and noticeable not doing beyond what is required...ask any top-performer in any field) Smart work a 21-century coinage, possibly, is of more mental exertion in order to sweat less, because the labour of the foolish must surely wear him out... But smart work is not a walk in the park, reason why many don't do it. G.B. Shaw said many will rather die than think...but a caveat is that smart work still needs hard work to fly. Edison said success is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration. If only smart work is what is necessary, success coaches won't be preaching that to become an ace or a legend of any skill, you will need about 10,000 hours of investment in it. So hard right? That's why many more are average than being a genius in their calling Luck...an overrated luck. Nature is guided by law, not by luck. So waiting for luck is as wasting away. Because laws guide life, that's why it is predictable, Luck is not. What could be nearly interpreted as luck from Ecclesiastes view is 'Time and Chance'. Thus my own definition of success is being ready when your opportunity comes. Preparation meeting opportunity. Before you wait for luck ask yourself if C. Ronaldo became so via luck or work? If Edison made his inventions by wishful thinking or mental plus hard labour, if leaders of thoughts became so accidentally. It is a fact that many were born great, many had greatness thrusted upon them while some paved way into their own greatness...the last on the list is always the most enduring, inspirational and repeatable because the know-how has been cultivated. Luck can be easily misunderstood in this part of the world especially where people can easily lay their hands on fortune they didn't work out themselves...but it is not akways the ideal way of hitting success. No serious person waits for luck or interprets success as luck. Success has principles, luck does not, and the earlier you know and work out the rules of success, the faster and luckier you can get. 3 Likes |

Re: Which Is Equivalent To Success, Hard Work, Smartwork, Luck? by Tozara(m): 8:15am On Nov 15, 2018 |
Is anything equivalent to success? A lot of factors are woven together before the cloak of success is produced for anyone to wear, and these factors differ from case to case. Since success is often defined in terms of wealth, riches and fame, a person who enjoys all that by virtue of inheritance and association (relation to a wealthy and famous person) can also be termed "successful", and such a person could easily tell you that smart work and hardwork are irrelevant rubbish. If however, you're talking about success in terms of achieving the goals you set for yourself, then success becomes relative and subjective, and the individual becomes the only one to decide whether or not he's successful. No one else is a qualified judge in the matter. Either way, NOTHING guarantees success. So, I'm going with LUCK. Thank you very much. |

luck cannot be compared to grace...the latter supersedes all, I have seen the hardworking, those who do smart work.. and those who are lucky at success on a blue moon... but grace can provide all you need without much effort if God wants it to happen... 1 Like |

Tunadexy:there is nothing like luck. What people call luck is a combination of thinking smart, working hard, being at the right place and time and knowing when to maximize opportunity. If I get a job paying millions, some will say it’s luck but they forget that I may have had to write aptitude test and interviews and all these require the right preparation. Extend it to business, getting and knowing the right connection isn’t easy. So, when these connection help some call it luck, no it’s not. If you have been getting things done by other people, you can’t be termed successful. The smart work you mentioned is a combination of hard work and talent. Hard work can beat talent when talent fails to work hard and does not have the right Attitude. Talent is a combination of mouth and wisdom. Have you ever seen someone who can’t communicate and does not have the wisdom excell? Even a dumb and deaf person must know how to communicate. So success in life is a combination of hard work, talent and opportunity. 1 Like |

My brother. Real men dony believe in luck, they believe in cause and effect. And I dont even believe in luck, I believe in maths and science which makes you smart. Success is smartwork. Some people sit in there homes earning real money compare to a brick layer working in the sun for a whole day. We need to be smart 1 Like |

success is not an exact science, but doing somethings would greatly increase your odd. First on the requirement should be great work ethics (Ability to see out a task). Gaining that discipline to stick to a task until the end is only possessed by a handful of people and those who do inevitably achieve success. with discipline and great work ethics, you can get your life in motion hoping for success. But what is going to bring you success is spoting opportunities around you and being able to act on them. Now this is smartness. A lot of people have great and smartly thought out ideas, but how many of them have the capacity to implement. Only a few can successfully execute a big idea, and that knowledge comes from years of hard work on the background. So, you can see this whole thing is nested. HARD WORK! HARD WORK! A third major requirement for big success would be building networks. We fail in most things because we are not in the circle of people with the capacity to execute great ideas. Again, in the years of hardworking, building bridges, evolving, you build network of people you can assemble to execute great ideas. Still, this whole thing comes down to great work ethics. Nobody wants to associate with you if all you do is sleep in your pyjamas all day and think of great ideas. Be smart for all anybody cares, nobody achieves great success without working out their asses. The idea of being smart and achieving success is just the imagination of lazy individuals. if you want to be successful, your surest means would be by inheritance, being born into riches. But if you are like most of us, your only chance is to get up and get hard. push yourself. burn your fingers. Master a skills, a trade, whatever it is you are doing, master it. If you dont like what you currently do, look for something else, stick with it and master it. Be the best of what you do. Then, success becomes inevitable. 1 Like 1 Share |

Luckily, one person was picked. Now is it that all the fifty we're not smart enough than the lucky person. I think lucky superceed |

I will use the boxer example: one can achieve success through hard work [needed in the early parts of their career]. Hard work will lead to smart work because later in their years their bodies can't take much punishment in terms of training or combat, so they think up skills and plans to outsmart both their bodies and opponents. Luck is a whole different ball game and benefits even the lazy. If one makes themselves readily available luck has a higher chance of shining on them than another who didn't put effort, anyway it still comes regardless. |

Tunadexy:If you succeed by LUCK you will definitely fail again. To me, success is not Luck, Hardwork or Smartwork. SUCCESS is built on EXPERIENCE. There are two great forces that produce success in a man... First his Personal Faith, Second External Influence. If you succeed by Personal Faith but lack the ability to manage Negative External Influences you will Fail. Success happens when Opportunity meets Preparedness. Preparedness means Positioning oneself for success (Hardwork) while Opportunity is Luck. But this last definition still captures Personal Faith which is just First step to success. It is a long trip. Smart work is closer to that Word EXPERIENCE because it captures doing the right things at the right time in the right place in a manner that will generate the right results. The WHAT, WHEN, WHERE and HOW elements of success. Experience comes from many years of Hardwork but only few people get there. Whether there is recession or not, people on this level keep getting money, whether they go to work or vacation. They have learnt the principles of financial growth. |
