It is just like when God wanted a new King for Isreal after Saul. The Bible recorded that 'God SOUGHT for a man after His heart'. Why will God search and not just pick?

The issue is quite a simple one, I believe that God chooses a wife for you. If you go to prophets for prophecy concerning your marriage to a lady or you pray on your own seeking God's intervention and approval of your choice of who to marry, is the same thing. Most of us today walk by sight, hence do not know how to listen and be led by the Holy Spirit. I'm not sure a follower of Christ will be allowed to marry a pretencious person, then cry out later in anguish.

When the Bible says the Holy Spirit is our Guide, what is the limit of his guidance? because marriage is a highly spiritual matter as it has it's origin deep in the Divine.

The Holy Spirits Helps us, directs us, teaches us what tho. Is there a limit?

what I mean & see is xtains trying to follow the exceptions (where God stepped in to direct/choose for men without considering that that is God's prerogative not ours) and leaving the norm.

But because it sounds mighty spiritual, we try to claim its because of our EFFORTS of special fasting & prayers, gifts, dreams, trances, revelation came to that effect**!

We seem to try abandon what should be the norm!
Yes the norm should be to LIVE by the word of God.


The choice & will (perfect, permissible etc) of God concerning partners is encoded in broad and general principles in His Words.... like don't do it for beauty (because it fades); don't do it for riches (it's got wings) look at character; agreement/like interests, purposes/visions etc go READ UP THOSE (of course your spouse's name is not written there.

simply obeying and following God's words & principles YOU can find or have yourself a wife.

Note also, none of the principles says to ask your pastor to discern anyone for you o!- so where did the practice come from. Except over bearing church leaders taking up the place of the Holy Spirit??

3. let's digress (I pray & hope this helps someone understand better) and consider something analogous (I agree not exactly the same) by asking us to think about naming of children. And we can agree on importance/spiritual essence of naming/names.

Yet a matured man CAN AND SHOULD simply give his offspring a name and asks God to bless the kid with it.
as simple as that is, it's spiritual enough yet with no dramas.

Now what happens when someone insists to fast & pray/ask God for the name so as to fit the few examples of people with "divine intervention" names (eg John & Samson unlike Moses/Esua) without considering some of those were about given other names AS NORMALLY DONE till God stepped in??!

Well, the above is what most want to do with marriage without considering their mind set.

So Op, please read the Bible teachings on marriage; find by yourself and judge your decision/criteria by the Bible s standard (if God wants to stop or correct you this is when & where it happens - He will step in to do. But if not, go ahead; then present yourselves to God to bless the Union.
