Sometimes I do wonder how we try to understand foreign news. When most of us what we only do is to judge by headlines and not details. Both companies are from U. S and they have been in serious competitions and legal tussles in China where the rival for Market gain. And since they both operate in China. One of it have to challenge the other in Chinese court where there is competition violation, and this is not the first time. The last time it happened between both companies in the same China, judgement was in favour of Apple and Qualcomm had to pay Apple. While the court case is going on, there was a temporary ban on Certain apple products brought into question by Qualcomm. So how does now translate to China U. S trade war. I understand the difference between both terms. Balance of payment is between a country and the rest of the world. Trade deficit is between countries. They are both measured in dollars.
The present reality is that US imports more from China than it exports. That amigo is the trade deficit. Don't confuse people.

They put the workers of these rich countries out of work, make developing countries like Nigeria their vassal states by being at their mercy, and then use their strategic advantage to coerce everyone to stay mute about their deleterious dealings.

I wonder if you'd be so enthusiastic to go work in a Foxconn assembly plant where nets are placed by windows so workers who intend to commit suicide are caught by the net and sent back to work. Or be sent to one of the many "re-education" camps that hold millions of Chinese who don't subscribe to the Communist train of thought.

Dude, unless you have been living under the rock, I'd give you a summary of America's relationship with cars.

When gas is cheap, they buy gas-guzzlers--SUVs and trucks. When gas gets expensive, they revert to sedans. It's the free market and you don't even need to be an economist to figure that out.

GM is a corporation, of course they'd implicate steel price, even though there is a glut of steel (too much steel) in the world. They have to numb the pain of letting go tens of thousands. But that isn't the primary reason. They are being proactive and using money saved (note saved) from the fiscal restructuring to invest on other high growth auto sectors--mainly green cars and autonomous driving. Read the whole statement.

SUV plants are going strong and they're actually making provisions for some workers to relocate to these plants. I'm sure you missed that because it doesn't fit your narrative.

I guess you've flip flopped from the tarrifs are bad to they're good but only against adversaries. Except allies have been taking advantage of America's goodwill and anytime America warms up to them to adjust, they go with the familiar, "we'll do better" and then do nothing. About the recession. It's inevitable. The market is a pendulum, it swings both ways in intervals. America is overdue for a recession.
