FINALLY, A SINCERE EVALUATION OF SCHOOLING

A school is a place of learning. A typical school today would be a place where any type of education, most especially western education is taking place. Nowadays, certification of competence can only be achieved after the completion of a form of schooling or the other. The question is, why does the need for any kind of evaluation of the school system arise?

Well, for starters, I've got no problems about what is being taught in schools. Also, there is no doubt about the role of the school in the transmission of knowledge from generations to generations. But there is a problem about how a school is structured and programmed to carry out it functions of knowledge transmission. At this juncture, let me be clear that this evaluation is being done from an Islamic perspective.

There is a clear and undisputable link between schooling and sexual immorality. Because a school is primarily concerned with transmitting knowledge, it has little considerations to spare for the biological clock. So, in the end, it fails woefully in assuring moral uprightness among youths.

Schooling has turned the vast majority of young girls into prostitutes nowadays. It's a pity we, as muslims, have decided to turn a blind eye to the very gory realities we are witnessing today viz a viz our future mothers. It's increasingly looking like schooling is nothing but a desecration of womanhood. From the countless students staying together as married couples to the numerous oloshos to the inumerable abortionists and pregnancy-killing pills users. I fail to see why anyone can disagree with the assertion stated above.

We've really got to sit down to re-evaluate schooling and determine how far it aligns or otherwise with our deen. We should start initiating scholarly/intellectual discourse on the neccesary reforms there must be, of schooling. Turning a blind eye and pretending all is well is a big dhulm (wrongdoing) on our part.
