This is such a bullshit story that I was laughing throughout reading it. You do know that all the translations from Igala to Benin in your post are actually Igala and Yoruba? Igala language contained 70% Yoruba words and not just a few words like you claimed. I don’t know who wrote this history for you but it’s hilarious. It’s so fraudulent. By the way Oshodi is not a Benin title. Oshodi was a Nupe man and originated from Nupe but he had children in Benin and all over SW. so many fraudulent claims in this writeup that I don’t have time to debunk all!

Oshodi tapa had children in Benin?

Are you sane at all? You better shut up and go read your history.

Don't mention me again if this is the kind ignorance you want to display on here.

FYI, the write up was written by an Igala person.

You are mad because Oshodi tapa is in a family line I know, so I know. This Igala person that wrote this is on drugs.

Oshodi of Benin predates Oshodi Tapa of Lagos by a number of centuries. However, there's probably a historical connection. The third is the founder of central Nupe Kingdom, a warrior king who expanded the kingdom much further. He was actually an Igala prince of Nupe mother, known in history as Tsoede, the name metamorphosed into Oshodi.

Actually, Oshodi (historically speaking) was a title and not a personal name. Although it has now evolved in modern times to be sometimes used as a name.

In fact, Oshodi (Oṣòdì) is NOT a Yoruba adaptation of Tsoede. We know this because Yorubas still preserve and use the Yoruba adaption of Tsoede till date, and it is: Shado (Ṣàdó) or sometimes (Ìṣàdó); not Oshodi.

The Yoruba adaptation “Shado” (from: “Tsoede”) is a Tapa-Yoruba religious title which is many worlds apart from the Yoruba title “Oshodi” (Oṣòdì) — a different and completely separate title/office.

The title “Oshodi” (Oṣòdì) is a title of Yoruba origin. It appears in different form in different Yoruba areas & kingdoms. The key term in this chieftain title is “òdì”.

The title comes in the form of: “òdì-ọba”, “oṣòdì”, “òsì” (a synonym of “òdì”), etc. The term “òdì” (as applied to a person) translates literally as: “alter-ego”.

As such, “òdì-ọba” translates as “the king’s alter-ego”, “oṣòdì” is “one who acts as [the] alter-ego”, etc.

This title (in Yorubaland) is that of a chamberlain who is both the king’s aide & the king’s stand-in.

A Nupe held this title at Èkó. Oshodi (Oṣòdì) is not his name. Oshodi is the Yoruba title of his Yoruba office. His actual name is Landuji.

Finally, the screenshot below shows what Bini sources say about this title, which they articulate as “óṣòdìn”.

Bini sources note that this title is “Of Yoruba origin”.

Culled from Bini-English dictionary, published 1937.

Osodin in Benin has nothing to do with Yoruba origin....Benin history has been under attack since 1897

The lbiwe Palace Society (Ekhaemwen N’Ogbe)

THE Ibiwe is the third Palace Society which is responsible for the care of Oba’s harem. It is said that the Ibiwe trace their origin to the time of Prince Okpamen (later known as Oba Ozolua) who brought them from Ora. They were reported to have assisted the Prince in his struggle to ascend the throne of Benin. When Prince Okpamen became Oba Ozolua, these loyal associates were at first quartered at Eyaen but were later brought to live in Benin City. Because of their loyalty they gained the appellation Agobo-ehpen meaning “the left hand of the leopard’ for the Oba used these loyalists to strike his enemies, in the same manner a leopard does with its left paw. During the time of Oba Ehengbuda (e. 1578 A.D.) it was decided that the monarch should visit Eko (Lagos) which was then a part of the Empire. The Oba then requested both the Iwebo and Iweguae societies to accompany him on the visit and they whole-heartedly agreed to accompany the Oba anywhere. Oba Ehengbuda having convinced himself of their loyalty, commanded the members of the Ibiwe Society to remain in Benin to take care of his wives and children. This was the beginning of the ¡biwe’s connection with the Oba’s harem. In due course, the Ibiwe was elevated to the status of a Palace Society by Oba Akenzua I who reigned (c. 1713-1735 A.D). The lne was placed ‘as head of the society even though the Osodin still kept the responsibility of heading the Eruserie whose duty among others is to serve and case for the iloi (Oba’s wives) and children. While the administrative powers of the harem lies with the Osodin, the Uso remains the executive head of that section. Furthermore, the titles in Ibiwe are in three parts namely:
Eghaevbo N’Oghe
Ekhaemwen-Uko
Affiliated Guilds.
