Nelson Mandella is the most overhyped African. Tell me his legacies and achievements( perhaps I forgot). Tell me what he did that Awolowo didn't do better. I will even choose Thomas Sankara before him. Awolowo is greatly underrated.
Lol. You want to overrate Awolowo right? See how you try to underrate Mandela? His personality is beyond what your small mind can grasp. Back to Awolowo; he was a great man no doubt but for the fact that he was championing a sectional agenda limited his popularity. Kwame Nkrumah and Nnamdi Azikiwe tower far above him despite his local achievements. Awolowo is of the same mould as Ahmadu Bello- only popular within Nigeria.

i want to believe that those mods abi admins in charge of blocking or suspending accounts are seeing the high degree of profane and vulgar language plus ethnic divide stemming from comments under this thread. Check out the deep tribalism, bigotry and open insults directed at whole tribes or ethnic nationalities. If you don't ban or suspend them, pls don't ban or suspend me for merely reacting to insults showered on me.

Sadly many young nigerians do not know their origin or lineage. The majority of what you call Ijaw if checked for DNA would have a huge percentage of iGBO matches. The Ijaws were massively trading and intermarrying with igbos for over 500 years, thats why a lot of the words in most ijoid languages are the same meaning in igbo. Please read about the Aro Confederacy, Nigerian government would never let the citizens know their proper origin otherwise the balance of things in the country might change.

Here is one fact you should know. Within the old Eastern Nigeria - A lot of the tribes within are displaced and are speaking a language that is not originally theirs or have moved from an original territory and is now occupying a territory absolutely far away from their origin.

Hundreds of years before the name Britain was ever imagined the Aro confederacy existed with Kings And Armies from many tribes of the old east coming together to form a powerful pact, what we are now calling Ijaws (Which is a very broad term) was one of those tribes and the language of communication was actually a written one called nsidibi. Please read about this tell anyone else who doesnt know.
500years is recent history...am talking about originators, origins of the region, don't jump into an argument you don't know how it began...trading has been on in that region for more than a thousand years... and your fellow was claiming Iboes to be Progenitors of Ijaw, for record sake, I had to save young ones from being misled on here...am sure you know what the word Progenitors means...this is a fallacy.

The word progenitors means fore fathers, and should not be confused with originators. Saying the progenitors of ijaws is igbos is misleading, but saying some of the progenitors of ijaws are igbos us factual information. The same is also correct for igboic tribes that reside around boundaries with ijaws, most would have ijaw forefathers. 500 years is enough time to create 1500 generations, that's a long time.

I am from the south - south, rivers state in particular. If your intent is to educate or contribute, let's not arm twist history in other to win an argument or prove a point. Nobody benefits from that.

Have a Great Day!

This is the reason people dislike Iboes, even when you guys are wrong you still keep arguing, it's really dumb. Iboes are neither originators or progenitors of that region...you people can keep deceiving yourselves within your region, don't bring nonsense dumb facts to a public forum. Am telling that region has been explored for more than 1000years, by European traders and explorers, the prominent locals in this region then are Ijaw fishermen, Benin and local merchants, who come to deal with these Europeans...Iboes only came there later to run away from their harsh regions...you guys came to settle there, you ain't originators, please go and learn English.
The Ijaw ethnic group consists of 50 loosely affiliated clans. These clans are based along kinship lines under the Benin Empire. Shared cultural and religious traditions.

Wow interesting you have called me names without reading or trying to understand what I wrote. And then you put a list of names of different nigerdelta communities of which most have no linguistic or cultural ties and you re calling them Ijaw. So I think I understand what you're up to. you've considered yourself the defender of Ijaw territory regardless of whatever facts or fiction are put together. I don't know how you've gotten away with doing this, but today you made a mistake, you've added my community in there. I'm from Opobo and we are not ijaw people, we don't speak Izon neither do we practice it. all we have is the water festival which is copied from Kalabari people, and we only send representative to the IYC as we do also send reps to other regional tribal meetings. Our history unlike most other communities in nigeria is written and is recent. Also the Andoni just like us speak a language which is a mash up of Akwaibom, igbo and a little ibani and you have also listed them as an Ijaw community, so many of the communities are just riverine or nigerdelta communities and i guess for you that is synonymous with Ijaw, why didnt you list Ogoni now. My guy na wa for you oh! I thought you were genuinely trying to talk history rather you're clearly trying to armtwist reality to prove your point. Goodluck!
