In November 2010, Zidane was appointed as a special adviser to Real Madrid's first team in response to an appeal made by then-Real Madrid coach José Mourinho for the former Real midfielder to work more closely with the team. In his new role, Zidane was expected to participate in Champions League events and functions and was also to travel with the first team on a regular basis and participate in pre-match gatherings, training sessions and meetings with the head coach. In July 2011, it was announced that he would become Real Madrid's new sporting director. In 2013, Zidane was appointed assistant coach to Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid

In June 2014, Real Madrid announced that Zidane would be the coach of Real Madrid's B team, Real Madrid Castilla. On 4 January 2016, Real Madrid announced the dismissal of manager Rafael Benítez and on the same day Zidane was appointed the new manager of the club on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Can you see the gradual build-up to his becoming the cach of Real Madrid? He has been well prepared for the post. Something Lampard lacks.

As a Blues fan, I wish him all the best anyway.

would have preferred sarri to stay but since he is leaving, lampard is the best man for the job. we have a transfer ban so we need a manager who will do with whatever is available and lampard did that with derby last season by relying on youngsters

Are you in anyway comparing Derby and the level of competition in that league with Chelsea in the premiership? A team that will be playing in the UCL?

There is a higher competition in the championship as almost all the teams are in same level. Of all the 3 teams to get relegated, which one got promoted? In EPL there is a big gap between the big 6 and the rest.
Chelsea team is good enough to compete in EPL just as derby team is good enough for championship

Exactly my point. Level of competition differs in both leagues

If lampard can do well at derby with a team good enough for the championship , why are you saying he can't do it at Chelsea with a team good enough for EPL?

Why are Chelsea being so sentimental? The guy just got 1 year of coaching experience.

It does not matter, zidane no get any experience on assistant manager experience.

Sarri was trophyless before he joined Chelsea. Zidane hadn't coached a top division team before a whole real Madrid made him head coach. Guardiola had no experience when he became Barca's most successful coach ever. So it's not about experience if you've got it, you've got it

Thiery Henry was a disaster at Monaco, Neville was a big flop at LA liga, maradona didn't do well at Argentina either, how is solkjaer fairing? it's OK to be optimistic, but let's be realistic.

Zidane had world class players to manage, Gaudiola was given freedom to chop and change.

Chelsea is totally different, every match and decision will be scrutinized, The management won't give that much freedom(a reason sarri left), and its not even that the players are of the highest quality.

you need a combination of all these things to succeed, it goes beyond motivational speeches.

Coutinho (could not get in Barcelona team and Barcelona think William will be an upgrade), Dybala( scored 5 goals all season), Adrien Rabiot(didn't play all season and ligue is farmers league where the likes of Batshuayi and Bakayoko were dominant forces), James Rodriguez( Bayern think they are better off due to his lack of defensive contribution in a league where Bayern don't defend all time and you think he will be good in England where only the strong make it? there something in James that made real Madrid and Bayern to reject him), Kai Hervizt(a kid in his first few season with good stats. still need to prove himself?, Fekir( farmers league like Batshuayi and Bakayoko and to make it worst have knee problem that may end his career anytime), Nicholas Pepe( still the Batshuayi and Bakayoko situation first season as a star but maybe the only one in your list I will take), Koulibaly(only been good at Napoli ,not won anything and we don't need CB with rudiger, Luiz ,Christensen, and the impressive Zouma returning plus youngsters like Tamori and clake skater returning from impressive loans..

What it takes to succeed in the championship is not the same as in the premiership

wetin dat Zola do Dem? He has also bn used as supporting and second fiddle in Chelsea.
Too much sentiment I must say.
Zola deserves to be head coach too
You're right. Perhaps Zola himself hasn't made a push for the top job yet.

I became a Chelsea fan in the days of Guanfranco. And almost became a fanatic in the days of Frank Lampard, John Terry and Didier Grogba.

With Zola working with him, Chelsea is in for the best deal ever.

All true blue blooded band would love this.
I sight you bro... Good old days of the Chelsea greats. Perhaps lamp would teach the boys how to take proper long range shots. We've missed that at Chelsea.
