I don't know why you insist edo sold themselves as slaves what is your gain when the people are telling you they never recorded any such history ...on the otherhand this tourist could be long Benin migrant who parents left the shores of Nigeria long ago to u .s

Bro am Edo and I have been researching edo history right from birth we edo sold Benin's as slave to European but it might not be the original first citizens in the city but the slaves sold was still Benin any way.

Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano.
That part of Africa known by the name of Guinea, to which the trade for slaves is carried on, extends along the coast above 3400 miles, from Senegal to Angola, and includes a variety of kindoms. Of these the most considerable is the kingdom of Benin, both as to extent and wealth, the richness and cultivation of the soil, the power of its king, and the number and warlike disposition of the inhabitants. It is situated nearly under the lines, and extends along the coast above 170 miles, but runs back into the interior part of Africa, to a distance hitherto, near 1500 miles from its beginning. This kingdom is divided into many provinces or districts: in one of the most remote and fertile of which I was born, in the year 1745, situated in a charming fruitful vale, named Essaka. The distance of this province from the capital of Benin and the sea coast must be very considerable; for I had never heard of white men or Europeans, nor of the sea; and our subjection to the king of Benin was little more than nominal; for every transaction of the government, as far as my slender observation extended, was conducted by the chiefs or elders of the place.

What is wrong with you, you have seen descendants of those been sold as slaves traced their root back you are still arguing.

For your information the binis dont have transparent history presently made public.

D.n.a traced edoid group back to benin....they could be from other part of edo state or even branch linage like Delta but saying they were exactly benin taking from benins that is not correct.. History state so....

I still dont believe this peole are originally from benin the news is covering something the origina binis are not even upto a state to survive slave trade

You're mistaking benin republic for benin, i find your comment downgrading to edos in believing such. your aims are still not clear are you happy to hear benins sold themselves as slaves or you should be happy africans are coming to benin for tourism ....what part of edo are you from ?

These ones are confused. They probably meant to go to Republique Du Benin. Aka Benin Republic and not Benin in Nigeria.

How do you know that?

lol...you must understand that until recently, many black Americans enjoyed living in denial of their true roots.

Now You See them dress up in Dashikis, believing that is all the passport they need to claim their "long lost" heritage.

We never denied our roots, until now we didn't know which country in west Africa we were from, that's why we call ourselves African American. You see we knew we were from west Africa but where? Black Americans have been wearing Dashikis since the 1960s.

I heard it's easily done now with DNA test or something, to know which country and tribe a particular African American came from, have you done yours?

They say they can pinpoint the region but not the tribe. No, I haven't done mine, I just don't believe it's accurate.

Having a 90% knowledge of the exact region you come from is better than none, it's possible knowing the tribe
This hip hop rapper, Nas, who's father was born, (Charles Jones III) changed his name to olu Dara Jones, when he discovered he was a Yoruba man

Not a single person there is full-fledged anything. I can guarantee you that if they take DNA tests, the results will point to all over West Africa and Central Africa (with a heavy dose of Nigerian for some of them).

Also almost everyone of them will have some European ancestry as well. That light-skinned woman in blue looks like someone whose DNA result will say 30% European.

True and a good number have Native American mixed in as well. Most that I've seen including my own family are heavily Ghanian ,Cameroon Congolese, and Nigerian. Depending on the tests used, the percentages of the countries are reversed. One test out there claims to be able to pinpoint to the exact tribe but it's the most expensive and a lot say it's inaccurate.

Why does it baffle you?

You expect them to forget their African roots?

DNA most definitely can pin point the region you share ancestry with in Africa and to what varying degree. The more data that is collected the better the confidence level.

The separation of Diasporan's from continental Africans is only 500 years old which is about 5 generations out, coupled with the intense racial segregation that was common in the USA would lend credence to the DNA results that come out of tests done on African Americans in particular.

The tests peddled by "African ancestry" as opposed to 23&me and Ancestry.com uses a different algorithm to pinpoint the exact tribal group but again it is to a particular confidence level, therefore it is not quite inaccurate but is less accurate that it could be.

Correction:

They are of majority African extract to be more precise which generally means they would cluster genetically and phenotypically with contemporary Africans. 500 years is not a significant enough time to have completely changed them especially on a genetic level.
