POLICE in Lagos yesterday paraded suspected kidnappers of two-year old twins at their school in Orile area of the metropolis last week.

The rescued twins could not narrate their experience in the hands of their kidnappers to journalists who gathered at the headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command headquarters. They could only stare at anyone who put a question to them because they are really ‘minors’. The children, Rita and Ruth, are in Play Group 1 (PG1) at the St Michael’s Nursery and Primary School in Orile.

The Guardian learnt that it took the intervention of some public-spirited Lagos residents who swung into action immediately they received report of the kidnap to intercept the kidnappers at a Bus Stop where they were waiting for the next available bus.

The suspected kidnappers who made a no-hold-barred confession of their involvement in the crime were paraded at the police command headquarters.

The Lagos State Deputy Police Spokesman, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, told journalists that the two suspected kidnappers, Izuchukwu Eze (20) and Daniel Ogbonna (21), were arrested while trying to kidnap the twins at about 7.30 am from their school.

In his confession, Izuchukwu said: “We planned kidnapping them to take them to Iyana-Oba in Okokomaiko area. We even bought some clothes so that we can be changing their wears pending when their parents pay their ransom. We have already bought a GSM Sim card. We got to their School at about 7.30am. We monitored everything, we are aware of the time they usually start School Assembly, so we kept tab on them.

“Ogbonna came with some biscuits, so he gave some to them. Our plan was that whoever picks the first child should go to the Bus-Stop and wait for the other. Ogbonna picked the first child and he went as planned .I picked the second child and went to meet him, but I could not find him there.
While I was at the Bus-Stop, Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) people came and were asking me questions, I suspected that the school authorities must have raised alarm, so I told them the truth, and they started beating me. I told them that my second was with the other child. Our intention was not to harm them, but to demand for N1million. We wanted to use the money to start up a business. We just needed money to set-up ourselves.”

The second suspect, Ogbonna said he was introduced into the illicit kidnapping business by his friend, Izuchukwu, whom he claimed convinced him to join him to execute the plan.

He said: “I knew Izu from the Church. We attend the same Church. When he brought the suggestion on kidnapping business to me, I refused, but after much pressure from him, I yielded.
But I suggested immediately that we must not put the children in our house if we kidnap any of them. Our intention was to leave the children in any of the Fast Food outfits after our N1million ransom must have been paid, but nemesis caught up with us, it was really a bad luck for us. I gave one of them the Biscuits I came with and I was petting her.”

The Acting Police Spokesman, Jinadu said the kidnapers got at the twins, Rita and Ruth because of the biscuits offer.

“The kidnappers succeeded in kidnapping the twins after giving them the biscuits, but unknown to them, the School Authorities alerted the police and we responded immediately and swoop on them. They had the phone numbers of the school and they succeeded in buying a new telephone line so that their numbers will not be traced.
“They intended taking the children to Okokomaiko in Ojo area, so that they can call the school and demand for their criminal ransom,” he added.

Jinadu said that the suspects would soon be arraigned in court, adding that the Lagos State Police Command was taking measures in checkmating the nefarious activities of criminal elements, including kidnappers in the state.

i am not a tribalist like you, who spends his whole day obsessing about tribal supremacy. Just pointing out that Lagos has an effective system in place to curb the nonsense kidnapping. We dont even need the police, our local OPC is capable. They need to upgrade these men and pay them well. They sacrifice so much for the relative peace we enjoy in the SW.

I guessed you were fervently praying that this has nothing to do with Igbos but got embarrassed when the cuplrits turned out to be your "brodas" and therefore
harzarding a guess as per the motive of the OP.

However, the message is simple, clear and straight forward, warn your "brodas" no to try to replicate the Aba rubbish in any area of the SW.

They are free to kill kidnap and slaughter their own ibo people back east, they just better not bring that nonsense down to sw.

What do you expect from society that is being governed by pack of criminals?

We are all contributing to the battered future of our children directly or indirectly. Hausas, Yorubas, Igbos, Ijaws and what have you,
Re: Opc Saves Twins From Kidnap In Lagos by AYOGHANDI: 2:58pm On Oct 13, 2010
Pls nairalanders, don't introduce tribal sentiments into this. It is a general phenomenon, our government should create jobs and make our infrastructures work. Imagine if Cecilia Ibru had used those looted fund to resuscitate those dead textile industries in ABA, LAGOS and KADUNA, these boys would have been fully occupied.

Common boy!
OP only posted this to alert us that these guyz are now in Lag and also to show how God used OPC to save two kids afterall, they are likely to be Igbos from their names. But you turned it to a tribal sturf due to conscience and knowing fully what your guyz are capable of doing.

Not only Aba should learn from Lagos, Olori Oko gangan (President Jonathan) should learn from Tinubu group (Governor Fashola), They are people of wisdom.
Re: Opc Saves Twins From Kidnap In Lagos by TewMuch: 4:35pm On Oct 13, 2010
I hope state police is introduced soon, so that the useless idiots currently there can be replaced with OPC. SW will be a much safer place. Fashola needs to increase their compensation. They work more than police in catching robbers and stopping other crimes. They do the ground work of catching the criminals, while police just jail them. They are more capable and should be encouraged. Compared to the police they earn peanuts, which should not be the case.

God? Are you kidding?

Is God an OPC member?

Honour to whom it is due, even if the Devil!

OPC boys caught these b*astards.

They could keep their kidnapping business to the East; they shouldn't try it in Lagos. They ought to be happy they didn't meet with 'OPC justice'. Good-for-nothing, child-snatching money worshippers.

Up OPC!

Mopol has displaced them from aba hence the migration.

I wonder what happens to kidnappers court-wise?
Kidnapping is a serious crime and the punishment should be severe but knowing nigeria,
the police or judge will just collect money months later and the ingrate is on the streets again.

I thought they lynched criminals in such situations? ?
Everything has changed in lagos.
(more civilised now? ok oo! )!
Re: Opc Saves Twins From Kidnap In Lagos by Koikoi(m): 9:29pm On Oct 13, 2010
let us all condemn this crime. a crime is a crime no matter who commits it. we must avoid sentimental comments if we want to stop this type of rubbish

OPC should burn these maggots alive as soon as they're caught. This is not Aba.

I hope some fools will not come and claim, this is a civilized society grammar for me here.
