Whatever Bush's record or unpopularity, he is still the President of the most powerful country in the world. Yar'adua or whatever you call him must be very disappointed that Bush refused to meet him. If he did this would have been giving legitimacy to the non-election that took place in Nigeria. angry angry

As Obasanjos' stooge, lets see how he will perform. Whether he will break away from his political godfather and rule with backbone and authority or if he will just be his master's puppet. Time will tell.

China ia just as corrupt as Nigeria and the rulers are despotic to boot!!

No mind am!! Instead of people to be concentrating on the development of the country, they are soliciting for back up from the west to protect them from the evils that they intend to visit upon the beloved people of Nigeria. Do they think that the west is not fed up already with the ills in Nigeria? I mean look at he amount of Nigerians that emigrate every year to Europe and America. The numbers along with immigrants from other countries are causing problems for these countries and that is why the people of these regions seem to be racist to Nigerians. They just can't understand why a country so blessed and full of natural resources that they (the western world) enrich themselves with will have a quarter of its population in poverty. At this stage of our development, we are still talking about when there will be constant electricity power supply in every aspect of the country. Even if it were for that reason alone, is that not enough reason to put off potential investors in the economy? And we are surprised that there are no jobs, there is violence in the Niger Delta, and armed robbery is still kickin' very fine. I mean it is not rocket science; put power supply in the country and, even for that alone, the nations economy will change drastically. Shuo!!! Instead of sitting down and drawing up a plan to see how to tackle these issues, our man say na bush e wan see now. if oyibo  man talk say black man foolish we go begin vex; all this no be proof eh? If e wan see bush i think bush full Naija? Make them carry am go iyokorionwon for near Bini make e go see bush. Akpa!!!

to all those who think that China will be the next greatest thing since sliced bread in 15 years or sooner, think again. Sure, I believe they will be the next superpower but in my opinion, we are looking at 50 - 100 years. There is too much at stake now. Among others, IMHO:

- They still rely on america to buy their goods and if the US stops, their economy tanks.
- Granted they have 1billion pple, they are yet to have the military strength of the US
- Until they can take over Taiwan and US can't do a thing, the US will be the dominant power
- If Democracy takes root in China, China becomes the new Russia.

So bite your lip and accept the fact that as much as you hate the US, it is still going to be the superpower for many yrs to come tongue

BUSH REFUSES TO MEET WITH YARADUA. Simple! Presidents meet with presidents and not with "presidents-to be ".

Has he not heard that birds of the same plumage will invariably conglomerate to the nearest approximatum. You now know why the most coveted seat is not for the half-witted nor the dullards but for the learned and enlightened. When we get it right, right people and right things will fall in to right places

We don't have that long to wait as you think.
USA Today recently said China's breakneck development affects American wages, jobs, prices and industries, determining who wins and loses in the U.S. economy.
It is now China, along with Japan, that is buying the U.S. treasury securities that enable the United States to run the largest fiscal deficit in history.

The United States, the world’s leading debtor nation, is now heavily dependent on Chinese capital to underwrite its fast-growing debt. If China ever decides to divert this capital surplus elsewhere, either to internal investment or to the development of oil, gas, and mineral resources elsewhere in the world, the U.S. economy will be in trouble.

You can feel all the shame you want but this doesn't mean anything. The white house said they dont meet Presidents-elect, so Yaradua cant meet him when he becomes President. Anyone here who says US is not important in our affairs for now is hay-wire. U can't do without the west. Even China and India still depend on the west.
You can say Yar'adua was selected, elected, erected, modulated or whatever english jargon comes to ur mind, all we know is that come May 29th, he will be president of 140million people. A free and fair election will have given him a mandate by the way. It's high time all those shouting realise that!
Nigeria's democracy is still growing. Let us mature first then make elections more credible. One step at a time. Even America with over 200 years of election still saw "flying ballots" in Florida and outright rigging with Police help in 2000.

Tornadoz,

Nice to see that you are current on your economics lessons. I like to have intellectual, as opposed to emotional, arguments tongue

What you have said is very true, but you have to realize that either way you look at it, it's a slippery slope. Sure, China et al (who are financing 60% of the US debt. See, I know a thing or two about the situation as well tongue), could decide to cash in on their securities/bonds but on the other hand, the US could say, "hey, if you wanna do that, then we will pack up and leave your country and who else would buy as much as we do from you?". And guess what? China knows this as well.

Besides, if you have read the latest news, you will see that US tax revenues is up, I believe, $70billion over the same period last year. the US problem isn't that of money cos they have plenty. It's an issue of how the money is being spent. Right now, as you know, it is being wasted in the middle east.

nobody is saying that China will suddenly overtake the US in being the world super power
what i for one is saying is that the US cannot ignore China!
of course you can also add that they cannot ignore Nigeria but that is in different dimension
China has become an issue because they are trying to at least copy the west!
i once read that the Chinese products are also seriously entering the US market.

so the are relevant for a totally different reason.

here why are we so intrested in fraternising with the west?

it is basically a parasitic relationship we have with them!
we worship in their country and even when they get down here we worship them even more?

we have no basis for negotiation since we dnt trust ourselves to do what they are doing for us!

you said it will take China 100 yrs?
ha!
it will take us more than a millenum with the way we are going.

i mentioned China so we wont talk about population which always characterise arguments
i can easily mention other countries that are getting up and going not just begging for love

btw, did Yaradua and co not ask questions before embarking on this fruitless and stupid trip?

Even primordial dwarfs will claim they are still "growing". when are we going to stop "growing" and start taking giant strides? Wont you be worried that a 47 yr old man still uses the "i'm still growing" excuse to cover his infantile deliquency?

When are we going to mature and what are the hallmarks of maturity? How mature is Ghana, Togo and Benin Republic that they can conduct credible elections and we dont find ballot papers in the bush and politicall parties winning seats they did not field a representative for?

Uhmmm, viee,

I was actually referring to tornadoz tongue

In any event, Nigeria can't afford to ignore China either - chinese restaurants everywhere, oil blocs, Foreign investments, walmart at tinapa (calabar).

Don't worry, chinese products are already entering naija too. I look forward to you starting another thread with the heading, "What has China done to us o" or something like that grin

As for fraternizing with the west, na una brothers you go ask. Everytime I come home, I am being made fun of. I am told I don't dress like an american, I don't talk like an american and I don't behave like an american. I am even laughed at for taking okada as opposed to chartering a car. If we had just 100 million pple just like me, america would be copying from us. cool

my question is why cant Nigeria products flood west africa

why cant our leaders think outside the box!

Our "products" are flooding west Africa. We have millions of Nigerian economic refugees all over Africa and beyond. Our leaders have tried!

Thank you for the abuse, I am not in denial of anything. I believe I can comfortably talk about politics of any nation in this World. I am that knowledgable and conversant with politics anywhere in the world especially in America where I am one of the millions of Democrats who did not vote for Bush.

Don't get ahead of yourself kid!

Then you should know by now that most of what Bush does goes against the wish or opinion of the majority in the US.

US Power
=======
Nothing they say lasts forever, but the US still get plenty of years before the melt down begins. Granted this Iraq adventure hasn't helped the US in many ways, but any country or leader worth its salt on this earth still needs to take the US very serious as it could hurt you in so many ways imaginable. A new leader after Bush can definitely try to slow down the descent.

As someone said earlier, I believe TAIWAN may be the ultimate test and will decide if a new world leader is crowned or
if the US still retains the crown. China will only make a move to overun or takeover Taiwain if and when its sure that
the US can not resist or don't have the WILL to resist - I don't see that happening anytime soon though. It will take
more than economic power for China to overtake the US. America exports so much more to the world than consumer goods such as its lifestyles, ideals, etc that are being copied in China and all around the world. Its going to be a while
to unseat this bad boy.

I doubt then if Mandarin will do any of us that much good in our time, maybe the kids will benefit from it in the future wink
Re: Bush Refuses To Meet With Yar'adua by fromuk(m): 9:46pm On May 11, 2007
China cannot do without the west as well west cannot do without china as a country. They have overtook France , UK and within a short while germany will follow and in the next 15yrs or less China will be the super power we have. Empire comes and go, so will US power dimnish one day, already it has started diminishing, the last crumbling will be next yr dec if they did not declare 100% victory in Iraq and Bush(Wilderness) quit from white house. Its true that china cannot challenge US millitary power as well US cannot take on China as they did in Iraq, if they can they could have done it since to librate taiwan, they know they will win but 30 out of 50 states of US will look like somali.

One thing we all should have in mind is that the so called west are not willing to see us(East) develop like them, that why they will always like to give us Aid and not the way to creat our own wealth.

Na Chineke wey dey for "upstairs" na im go fit bless you davidylan. Abeg help me ask Danmasani say since when a 47 year old man may be considered as "still growing". how can our country develop if they arent in the best terms with the western countries or mabe it will mean more unprocessed oil(petrol)for us to drink *since there isnt enough technology/capital to process d oil in naija*

though i dnt give a spoon what bush nd his people think about naija afterall theirs isnt heaven far from it,i think ya'aradua wanting to meet with bush was d rite/good move.
nd how do u all kno that the other west african countries/countries are holding credible elections? its a question

@ MAMAJAMA

I declared war on Obasanjo and PDP eight years ago. Yar'Adua is just inheriting my wrath with his selective blindness to the shenanigans and charade called April selections. He wants to pretend that everything is okay and all's well with the disenfranchisement of Nigerians over their stolen mandate.

This tells me he is not a man to be trusted and hence the new focus of my wrath. Obasanjo will never seize to hear my big mouth however. That man has single handedly turned the hands of the clock in Nigeria back 30 years.

Nigeria is now a TEENAGER again hence the maturity problem. Infantile indeed!

its a big shame for mr yaradua trying to gate crash into the white house without been pre-invited.
maybe he is still canned into his secondary school life,if not i dont see why the hurry.

with the 2 giants unending quest for oil,the ultimate battle will definitlly be in africa not taiwan.
