system wide dark mode has been in existence for a long time now especially in LG phones.

As someone who moved from nougat to pie, I will argue that there is a huge difference. From Oreo to pie, well not much. Nevertheless, Google may have cooled things off in Android a bit to give more time to KaiOs and Google Fuchsia.

Still, I dont see Android dying off so soon, infact, something may trigger a change in design soon. All it takes is one Vivo or Oppo to make a crazy design and boom, Android takes a new shape

If anything, lack of supporting technology in Nigeria (and many places sha) limits Android growth. By now the Os should have had full support for AR and VR at the basic level

U are right, that's what make me sell phone i was using before, after i upgraded it, some of my beloved features was removed, I had sell it, and re buy it again, since I bought it, I never try any update again, cuz am enjoying it like that, almost a year now.
sofiscatedmoron:
phone update has been of no use since day 1,
unless you want to install an error package into your phones,
its manufacturers way of telling you to go amd buy a new phone by releasing software that will damage your phone, and once you install those updates no going back or downgrading, so its better to stick with tje default os that came with yout device,

There used to be a time when android updates are so relevant that everyone is waiting for the next big update from Google, NOT ANYMORE! Nowadays most people see Android updates as a mere waste of data because it doesn’t add any major or important feature to the existing ones. They have become irrelevant to the majority of Android users and the craze of staying “updated” is no longer there anymore. These days, there’s really nothing I’m missing if I decide to use Android Oreo instead of upgrading to Pie.

In the last two or three years, things have really cooled off for most people and updating their apps or Operating System have become a waste of time. Now Google has announced that the next OS will be called Android Q instead of Android Q or whatever and no one seems to be even interested. In my own opinion, I think Android has reached its peak and the time is ripe for a new Operating System to be launched that will come with a whole new stack of the exciting feature. I can’t wait for the Huawei’s Harmony OS to see what it has in store.

Smartphone manufacturers are the ones trying to spice up their devices by launching custom Skins and ROMs in order to make up for setback from Android itself. Software innovation has really declined badly recently and the upgrades we see these days in Android Pie has already been existing long before now. For example, Dark Mode for Android has already been launched in older devices like the LG G4 long before it came to Android Pie. Digital wellbeing from Google is not exactly new as there are lots of apps on PlayStore that does the exact same thing so what’s the update all about?

Nowadays it really doesn’t matter if you’re running on Nougat, Oreo or Pie. Truth is you’re not missing anything important! I know some may argue that software updates ensure security. The fact is no matter what you do, you can never be 100% secure as far as digital safety is concerned. There’s always a loophole for wrongdoers to exploit and gain access to your most sensitive information. As for me, I have stopped caring about Android updates a long time ago

and I’m not sure the release of the new Android 10 update will change that.

Never underestimate the importance of security updates. Anti-virus are updated almost every 12 hours, will you ever see any major change? In terms of System Upgrades, it suppose to be every 2 years but they need to respond to trending technology demands of their consumers based on their survey. So, releasing every year is understandable. But to say, no noticeable change in upgrading operating systems is far from being true. Battery and apps optimization, support for new apps, and security are always better in every OS upgrades.
The only updates I found useless are the apps updates from Google store. Most frequently used apps release updated like every week with no major useful changes and experience.

Most naija users don’t even get updates anyway. The likes of Techno et al rarely provide major version updates.

Thank you for this.

Unless op has a Google or Nokia or other android one device, it is unlikely he actually has update fatigue.

The first question is has he actually read up on the new features of each android build?

Every year, Google and apple make some paid apps or rooting requirements obsolete.

https://developer.android.com/preview

Just a quick glance through there. Google is already taking proactive steps to make android q foldable ready.

This just comes across as a huawei hatchet job.

Lol see them, most of the updates might be minimal, but because it's a rom it has to be packaged wholly that's why it always large doesn't meant there will be new features external for you to see, most of the updates may contain fixes, performance improvement , support for more drivers especially the Graphic Card component. Don't always expect a new feature.

be straight up and head high you're an iphone fan boy, you're like apple don't out date apps and os.
they do on a regular basis like every other commtech outfit. if I may say they are worse for it for you pay for virtually everything.
for your info android goes for more than you've just and trying to ridicule it. mine wife has being on a tecno Camon X for two years plus and no regrets or any move to change it for now, for it is delivering optimally for her.
recently she walked head high when colleagues with iphone question her during one their outing for a make-up collaboration shoot, funny enough the unedited pictures from her device outdone the apple devices.

I am currently on Q developers version..
Features like bubble, dark team, app pin and special gapps features are awesome.
But it's a fact that u cant compare this with some custom ROMs those these few years.
Google seemed to have succeeded in killing the custom ROM dev by partially making MATERIAL DESIGN not fully open source again for developers to play and fork the os to their tastes. The end of CyanogenMod has also slowed b the dev even though they r now lineageOs.Also other Rims like Omni, ressurection, paranoid, dirty unicorns, have slowed down because they build as baseroms....let's see how HONGMENG will perform

There have been a change in what Google prioritize over the years. Focus has shifted from d visual swag u can see to privacy, security, user experience n Ai.

The Android game u used to play 5 years ago, are they still the same wack game u now play. The Google map u used to use, are they still d same map u use now? I am a beta user of Google map street view. Android has evolved to support those complexities.

I use a Google phone so our skin of Android might be different n hence our opinion. It is now almost as difficult to hack a pixel device just like d iPhone.

Bottom line, if u are using a wack device. You might have a negative impression of Androids. Just the same way every shouts that glo network is wack but my phone hardly drops it's 4G glo signal
