KaiOS? I know of Fuchsia and even at that no one knows if it will work out but I've not heard of KaiOS?

kaiOs makes feature phones work like Smartphones on just 512mb. If they can release a version for touchscreen and phase out Go versions of Android, it will be awesome. Google invested over $2.2bn in KiaOs to get it functional in India. As usual, Nigeria with it's population can't even benefit because it's like we hate new systems

I use LG so I can attest that the updates are not making any difference. I don't know of others.

LG is good but nowadays I fancy companies willing to test innovation. So far so good, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo are leading. Xiaomi most especially releases something new with major updates.

Thank you for this.

Unless op has a Google or Nokia or other android one device, it is unlikely he actually has update fatigue.

The first question is has he actually read up on the new features of each android build?

Every year, Google and apple make some paid apps or rooting requirements obsolete.

https://developer.android.com/preview

Just a quick glance through there. Google is already taking proactive steps to make android q foldable ready.

This just comes across as a huawei hatchet job.

I get what op is saying. Just that except you are tech savvy, updates are somehow useless in Nigeria.

Exactly my thoughts on these updates..I'm like, should I really care??
Except the Lord keeps the city, the watchmen, they watch in vain.

No matter the security updates released, the bad ones will still find some loopholes through it, the safest is to pray not to be remembered.

This is life, if you like build your fence as high as a story building, when criminals remember you, you'll marvel at human ingenuity and survivalist tendencies.

Why waste data on updates, when I can use it to follow up on a nice Hollywood series at my spare time

Forget about any security nonsense they will preach. Most of these updated tend to make the users more vulnerable than they were. They use the updates to collect every information u have in ur phone for their business gain. On daily basis, u keep getting new advert and unsolicited messages on ur phone. That is the outcome of the updates.

yeah those Chinese guys like taking risks. Samsung is even afraid of taking the kind of risks those Chinese companies take in the name of innovation..

I bought Tecno Pouvoir 2 LA7 this August. It seems to me as if the update has been hanging since January.

Suddenly, updates request started popping up......
The first one had January on it.... I updated since I wanted a new feature which I got (the battery icon changed)
The following day that of February came
The next day...March, April, May, June, July each costing about 150MB
I wouldn't mind the data if the update hadn't been useless...

Now that of August has arrived for the past 2 days, but as far as me, I and myself is concerned, I am not updating shit...

This is just Tecno teaming up with Airtel to suck life out of my MB.

Pop up camera, sliding pop up, under display fingerprint, dual notch, under display camera, foldable devices. Uncle Sammy just sits back and watch them do it. If it successful, he copies and charge an arm and leg.

Maybe na cause I dey write tech too na why I dey see these things. Lemme spy your website small. Might Learn a thing or two.

maybe it's because Samsung has more to loose if it doesn't work out. Look at the disaster that happened with it's foldable phone. As for my SSL, it has expired. It's to buy another one

I stopped reading after a few paragraphs. This was written by a tech expect? Like seriously?
Android is now so much better than when it first came out that people are not too eager to update. The OS was very buggy in its early years that people either root their phone to make it better or they wait for the next update. But now the OS is very matured that most people don't even bother to root their phones anymore. And "if it's not broken don't fix it". This is the attitude of the average phone user that's why most don't even bother to update anymore.

In terms of the naming of Android Q as 10, google already explain why and it's for simplicity sake because not all countries understand what Nougat or Marshmellow is. Do your home work properly b4 giving out personal opinion as fact.

Actually what you said was absolutely wrong, only correct in some places.
Android has not run out of things to update, their base operating system is theirs, except you are using a Google device(like the pixel) any update you are getting is from your phones manufacturer.
Android 7,8 and 9 are totally different in their functions.
Android 9 is Android's first artificial intelligence based operating system, manufacturer's add what they want to add to the os since they have paid for a license.
Google sends only security patches as ota updates, they also send updates to manufacturer's who may send the update and if the manufacturer has a new update for their custom os(like Tecno hios).
The only time Android's base os looks changes is when there is an update from let's say from Android 8.0 to 8.1
Thank you

The dark mode example the OP gives is misleading, since a dark mode theme on older phones is nothing compared to a complete system wide dark mode, complete with battery saving schemes and useful templates for app developers to follow.

the lg dark mode isn't a theme, its system wide
...I used it on a g5
..
and when used on a v30, it also helps save battery because of its oled screen
Re: Have Android Updates Become Useless? by texazzpete(m): 9:44am On Aug 27, 2019
TechCapon:
system wide dark mode has been in existence for a long time now especially in LG phones.

Barely anyone uses LG phones outside South Korea cheesy

So nobody really cares if it was in LG's skin. Now it's in stock Android and thus available to everyone. Plus now that Google is driving it, app developers are only now moving enmasse to provide dark mode updates for Android apps.

Never underestimate the importance of security updates. Anti-virus are updated almost every 12 hours, will you ever see any major change? In terms of System Upgrades, it suppose to be every 2 years but they need to respond to trending technology demands of their consumers based on their survey. So, releasing every year is understandable. But to say, no noticeable change in upgrading operating systems is far from being true. Battery and apps optimization, support for new apps, and security are always better in every OS upgrades.
The only updates I found useless are the apps updates from Google store. Most frequently used apps release updated like every week with no major useful changes and experience.
Like Instagram. Very annoying updates. Sometimes, you get update 3 times a week without any tangible difference.
