THIS IS HOW FALSEHOOD AND SUPERSTITION IS BEING PEDDLED. IF NOT THAT MOST OF US ARE EDUCATED WE WOULD BELIEVE THIS STORY AND PASS IT TO OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN AFTER THEM, SO IT BECOMES FOREVER.

THE PYTHONS NATIVE TO NIGERIA DO NOT BITE. WORSE OF ALL THEY DO NOT HAVE VENOM.
NO PYTHON IN THE WORLD HAS BEEN OBSERVED TO BE VENOMOUS.

I'M SAVING YOUR STORY WHICH YOU CLAIM ACTUALLY HAPPENED SO THAT WHENEVER I READ IT, I'LL APPRECIATE SCIENCE, BIOLOGY, AND EDUCATION THE MORE, AND PUT IN MORE EFFORTS TOWARDS THE EMANCIPATION OF MISINFORMED PEOPLE FROM THE CHAINS OF SUPERSTITIOUS AND RELIGIOUS BELIEFS.

This is someone whose eyes are opened. What happened there is that that community has been dedicated to deities (most likely marine deities) symbolized by pythons and observing the rule of not eating pythons is part of the covenant binding the community to the diety.
Your dad killing that python and eating it and saying "old things are passed away" was an intentional act of deliverance from the covenant binding your family to the marine deity.
Your dad fasting was in preparation for that single act.
You owe your Dad a lot. However, you also have to appropriate the deliverance to yourself and your progeny because you stated that you did not eat the snake out of fear. No one gets delivered while in fear. Go to God and do the needful

With all due respect sir you are very very wrong.
I have been to umuoji town in idemili north and have witnessed a woman speaking to a 12 to 15 feet python that entered her house to come out. She wasn't speaking the normal igbo language that I know but some kind of local dialect.

If you are in doubt about the kind of python I am talking about come to idemili. Umuoji any time you are chance and see for yourself.

The story about python and venom is wrong though.

I want to assume that you didn’t get a tape and measure the python. I am from a place where pythons are revered too. The ball python can grow up to 6 feet. It has a very mild temper and the colouration is very different from the rock pythons. Believe me, if an African rock python finds its way into a household in any of these villages, it would likely cause some damages. The reticulated python is the specie that targets people most and it can eat you for no reason. Lucky for us, we don’t have these here. If not, it’d be so bad for us all.

It was really a funny experience for me and my friends in Ekwulobia when we were posted to a new station in the town as Officers. The station was very lonely and the barracks was deserted and we were the only occupants. When you wake up in the morning and opened your door, you will see a big python lying in front of your door. As time goes on, we started killing the snake for pepper soup, we killed up to 7 snakes and it stoped coming to the place. Very sweet white meat. I love eating it.

African ball pythons are very docile and would rather curl up into a ball when cornered than attack.

In my village in Akwa Ibom they are known as ASABO and are not killed.

Growing up, when we visit our grandparents at home we find them sometimes curled on the rafters of the local kitchen where they get warmed by the fire set up below. They can remain there for days.

If they get the our way we simply cut a leafy branch and tap it gently. It will curl into a ball and then we roll or carry it away to another location.

I know one woman that python mistakenly bit in her farm. She said to the python; why will you bite me, don't you know that i'm daughter of the soil and besides i didn't intentionally march you. Immediately the python's venom started dripping off her leg. You will think its a story but it actually happened.

You don't kill python here, some see python entering their room at night but won't bat an eyelid and will probably sleep in that same room with the python. If you don't like its presence take a stick and take it out of your house while you throw the stick away because if you don't it will trace that stick back to your house.

Aren't Pythons non-venomous?
Re: Part Of Igbo Land Where You Mustn’t Kill A Python by Halo22: 5:26pm On Sep 16, 2019
I would have doubted this if I had not been in Anambra before. 70% of their communities don't kill this creature they call eke.

Goofed? I was not trying to impress or win any arguement. But I like to adopt a stance of taking personal responsibility on issues like this. I'm glad for your deliverance by the way and I'm happy for your PST which has creates an expose to the spiritual implications of the traditions. My heartache is for those in bondage under the guise of tradition.

Pythons dont have fangs but have razor sharp teeth that are bent backwards such day wen the bite say your hand ,u would have to either push the Python's head forward to free ur hand else it's teeth wld rip open ur skin.
It's bite is actually to hold it's prey so it can coil around it

I can attest to this. I served in Neni, Anaocha LGA of Anambra state which shares boundary with Idemili South LGA. We were told since we were in Camp at Umunya not to tamper with EKE because they are ancestors. In fact in my PPA I once saw a student carrying a baby Python with his bare hands.

Having to push one's bitten hand forward inside the mouth of a python to control the damagebshould be one of the wisest but most painful decisions an attacked human would have to make.
