. Do pythons kill people in those places?
Not that I know of. All records of human-python encounters gotten from these places are peaceful. But pythons are known to be dangerous in most parts of the world.

You are the one betraying your ignorance via your stupid reasoning. Over ages it's been confirmed in these villages that the python is harmless and you think you are wiser than almost 100 thousand plus people.
Think about your life, you may have a comma somewhere that is causing badluck and hardluck for you that is depressing and frustrating you.

They preserve the snake as god.

I know one woman that python mistakenly bit in her farm. She said to the python; why will you bite me, don't you know that i'm daughter of the soil and besides i didn't intentionally march you. Immediately the python's venom started dripping off her leg. You will think its a story but it actually happened.

You don't kill python here, some see python entering their room at night but won't bat an eyelid and will probably sleep in that same room with the python. If you don't like its presence take a stick and take it out of your house while you throw the stick away because if you don't it will trace that stick back to your house.

But python doesn't have venom na.

Their is so much mystery surrounding python, like Idoma speaking part of benue, python act very shy during the day and will never bite anybody even if you carry it with your bare hand, but during the night python is the most dangerous snake in Idoma land. As a child growing up and till date nobody can explain the reason behind this mistery

Oga idoma pythons don't bite and they are harmless non venomous snakes in nature, they only swallow their prays, only when they are hungry, if they are not, they go about wondering around, minding there biz. so why won't it be shy as you said? you can leave with such a creatures for decade, provided you fed it adequately. That's why it's very coming to see westerners have it as pets. The Yellows and white species in particular are the most beautiful ,and very rare to even see them. they are only found in places like the Amazons. Hunger ,poverty and olonga throat na him make lala and the gangs to be feasting on such harmless creatures back here in naija

They don't worship it. They protect it just like people protect dogs and cats. But in most other places, pythons are generally considered dangerous.

I have read everything here and there is a lot of misinformation. First, pythons are not venomous. This is for the person that said a python bit a woman and the venoms came out. Second, the variety of pythons not killed by some northern Igbos are the African ball pythons. They do not grow to become giant beasts like the ones we see on Nairaland killed by people in bushes. The ball python is smaller and generally doesn’t attack people. An African rock python would swallow you if it’s extremely hungry and can’t find food. There is a big difference between these species. Biko let’s learn to be guided, umunnem.

With all due respect sir you are very very wrong.
I have been to umuoji town in idemili north and have witnessed a woman speaking to a 12 to 15 feet python that entered her house to come out. She wasn't speaking the normal igbo language that I know but some kind of local dialect.

If you are in doubt about the kind of python I am talking about come to idemili. Umuoji any time you are chance and see for yourself.

The story about python and venom is wrong though.

Python don't have venom, you need to study your environment. Python strangle it's prey and swallow head first

People keep pythons as pet in the western world, they are harmless if well fed and non venomous but things could go ugly anytime so one has to be careful with it

THIS IS HOW FALSEHOOD AND SUPERSTITION IS BEING PEDDLED. IF NOT THAT MOST OF US ARE EDUCATED WE WOULD BELIEVE THIS STORY AND PASS IT TO OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN AFTER THEM, SO IT BECOMES FOREVER.

THE PYTHONS NATIVE TO NIGERIA DO NOT BITE. WORSE OF ALL THEY DO NOT HAVE VENOM.
NO PYTHON IN THE WORLD HAS BEEN OBSERVED TO BE VENOMOUS.

I'M SAVING YOUR STORY WHICH YOU CLAIM ACTUALLY HAPPENED SO THAT WHENEVER I READ IT, I'LL APPRECIATE SCIENCE, BIOLOGY, AND EDUCATION THE MORE, AND PUT IN MORE EFFORTS TOWARDS THE EMANCIPATION OF MISINFORMED PEOPLE FROM THE CHAINS OF SUPERSTITIOUS AND RELIGIOUS BELIEFS.

As an Idemili pikin there are few misconceptions I want to correct here to avoid story that touches the heart, first there are two types of pythons in idemili the first one is called Rock python which is hardly seen due to the fact that it always hunt in the night, every thing it overpowered is it's meal including human, we too kill and eat it too and the second one is ball python(Eke Idemili)this one is harmless to human and as such we too don't disturb it because it hunts mostly rodents.

There is a particular community called lagwa in imo state...there own is monkey....you will see thousands of them on top of a tree throwing pears or stone on your head. You may be lucky not to have a swollen head or face. One day something bad happened . The foreign students studying in that community lured on into their house and butched the poor thing. Nobody knew how the community got to know ....infact they were not only beaten but made to give a befitting burial with some sacrifice to make the gods happy...that incident made me change school ...sharply...
