Check out Messi's stats and don't forget that he won the La liga. He had a good overall performance in the ucl and copa del rey. No player was better than Messi last season. His gameplay and techniques went to the highest level that no player, even Ronaldo, has attained. Free kicks, passing/assist, and shot accuracy were god level. Too bad he didn't win the ucl due to barca defence complacency in the second leg and he lost in the copa del rey final. Liverpool had the ucl and Van Dijk did great last season but Messi is far above Van Dijk.

On the FIFA official website, it is stated that Messi has won the FIFA Best award SIX times. Please check it out and stop wallowing in misinformation. The awards were merged in 2010 to become FIFA Ballon D'or and not just Ballon D'or as you claimed, meaning that the winner automatically holds both awards. In 2016, the awards were split once more which was when CR7 won it again first.

You cannot know better than the FIFA which gave the award now. So run along Mr Fly.
