Chief Ebenezer Babatope, a former Minister of Transport on Thursday said the impeachment of US President, Donald Trump by the House of Representatives is a lesson to all world leaders that power is transient.

He however said like the the case of former US president, Bill Clinton, the impeachment will be quashed by the US Senate.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Babatope, a chieftain of the PDP said ” The impeachment of Donald Trump will fail at the Senate. Apparently, it is going to be the same thing that happened when Bill Clinton was impeached for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a woman, Monica Lewinsky”.

” He was impeached in the House but it was stopped at the Senate. The same will happen to Donald Trump”.

“What we can learn from it is that power is transient and no matter what happens, power will vanish the way it has come to the person who owns it” he said.

Wrong observation. I don’t see how power is transient here. Trump was President before the impeachment, he was President during the impeachment, he is still President after the impeachment.
The is no transmission of power in the whole process,

Trump will win 2020 Election just like the way it happened in the Uk. Many thought the labour party will win but the people voted against the labour party because they wanted to send a message to the labour party that the will of the people will always stand.

He clearly does not understand impeachment as defined in English language and in the US constitution.

The US Senate cannot quench or stop and impeachment, impeachment starts and ends in the House.

After that, if the House chooses; they can refer the article of impeachment to the Senate; the House can decided to either send or not to send it to the Senate; whether it is sent or not or if their is trial in the Senate or not; the President stand impeached!

The trial that takes place in the Senate is totally different, if the Senate convict him he will then be removed from office, if the Senate does not, he still remain an impeached President.

Impeachment is just an official Indictment of an offense. The Nigeria constitution have it wrong as the removal from office.
