southern Africans suffered the worst...

like I told Jaqenhghar.

If wh:yte people maltreat Africans, the Africans especially west Africans would kidnap them and maltreat them back, so they just leave west Africans in poverty by not doing any corporate social responsibility to uplift them, they exploit the Africans.

west Africans fought the europeans till the early 1900s while southern Africans were in apartheid, slavery e.t.c.. west Africans were fighting against the europeans..

tribalism is actually what save most west Africans...

".. South Africans suffered the worst.."
No they didn't

They never had the civil war horror experiences other Africans had and are still having due to imperialist influence

You have to understand that as soon as imperialist began the slave trade (commenced by the Arabs)
West & Central Africa became a war zone

This war is still raging till today (Bokoharam etc)

From fighting the imperialist in decades of brutal war (ekumeku war, Benin kingdom etc)
To fighting amongst themselves, of course with the imperialist being the indirect aggressor

People who think West Africans were enjoying during the 400yrs slavery don't understand the horror that was going down

The stubbornness of the West Africans resisting invasion made the imperialist to be more brutal in other to crush all stoping them from conquest

South Africa didn't experience much of this
Of coarse like most Africans they battled the imperialist (Zulu etc) but their resistance was not so strong

Their situation escalated cause they were too Stupid and much of cowards to drive the imperialist away "on time" as other Africans did

Imperialist prey on the mentally weak

I've always said African Americans are the biggest disgrace to the black race! They're one of the laziest set of pple you'll ever come across.

They're bunch of narcissistic fools with their sense of entitlement while blaming the whole world for their demise.

I've met and seen some that are doing very fine but the margin is just too wide. I feel bad sharing the same race with them.

The victim thing is very strong atleast among black people generally. Even looking at the Biafra war that took less than 50years, the victor mentality and victim mentality is still present in Nigeria till date. Now imagine the effect on those that fought an anti oppression and anti slavery war for centuries. eg South African blacks, African Americans, North American aboriginals, Australia Aboriginals, Brazilian blacks e.t.c.

Interesting. In most cases, African migrants would rather mingle with other fellow African migrants or people from other races than with African Americans. They're hardly ever found in predominantly African-American neighborhoods. This article pretty much explains why.
African-American people get better choko for head...and we wey come from Africa no want mk dem corrupt us or even use dem own trouble the freedom we don dey enjoy as we enter America oo

there are a lot of good African Americans as well as bad ones,I think there is a stereotype about being African american, which we are judging them by which I think is wrong, the same way Africans or Nigerians sometimes are being stereotyped, secondly the perception of them being lazy compare to Africans is somehow still not all that true.we share different realities, for an African man going to america he sees so much opportunities compare to where he is coming from, which gives them extra motivation to work extra hard, but for an African american they were born into that system and no matter how hard they may work they may not meet up with their counterpart from other races, same thing in Nigeria we all complain of no jobs but somehow u see that aboki guy doing all this hard labour stuff and making his money but the average southerner who is broke and unemployed wouldn't think of doing same job

I started reading the article thinking it had a lot to offer until I realized it was just another write up largely based on anecdotes and lacks substance. Yet my fellow naija brethren have also been quick to commend the efforts of the writer without offering much needed criticism as to how myopic this mindset is. I agree, we need to come together as the writer concluded but with the attitude and lack of empathy displayed in the write up, I completely understand why you might not get along with African Americans.

Stevecovey:
@op okpa042, the african americans suffered a deep emotional wound. Its still a fresh wound. Their grandparents are still alive who fought evil jim crow & segregation laws with the civil rights movement in the 60's. Those stories are still repeated in their homes.

That generation will have to completely die out and more time pass before a large portion of the population 'forget' & release themselves from the sense of victimhood.

I believe africans should look on that whole situation with compassion and not brash judgement. Its not so easy to overcome a mental conditioning of being inferior & unworthy. Your actions will always follow that thought pattern.

Wonderful writeup. I can definitely relate to some references in your article. Some AA believe Africans are taking up their jobs, have no regard for them and think they are lazy.

At the same time, I think without the AA efforts and struggle, Africans won't enjoy the rights and opportunities provided to them today.

We are one race. We need to start working together to advance our interests or perish together because other race hate our skin color. That's a fact

AA Means - (African Americans)

the AA's that are more brilliant, richer, more educated are all living in posh and rich areas which also have wh:yte people in majority...

they don't realize that since the government has ignored them its up to them to change the narrative of other AA's but that's expensive.

in summary,
the rich ones are more interested in integrating with rich people from other ethnicities.

the same happens all over the world...

In Nigeria, rich people would move to the rich areas in their state or they move to Abuja or Lagos...

because in reality, it is up to the government( whether Nigeria or U.S ) to build another and not the responsibility of rich people to build it.

no one owes anyone anything..

but in truth, if rich people wait for the government they are only delaying the progress.
I wont pretend that I fully understand the problem affecting AAs. This your explanation I cant say yes or no. I only asked the questiins any rational himan being will ask.

Other African nationalities claim to hate Nigerians thesame way many Europeans claim to dislike Americans while deep down in their hearts they admire them.
If those African nationals on that thread really hate Nigerians as they claim, they wouldn't be on a Nigerian forum corresponding with Nigerians. They are attention seekers same as you

We Africans cannot really understand what they went through because slavery was horrible. It is more of a psychological thing.... The privileges African immigrants are enjoying today is because African Americans fought for it with sweat and blood and so we should be compassionate.

But right now, the African Americans should look at the countries that sold them as slaves and make wise choices. There are thousands of Africans who wish to be in the US today.

It's one of the reasons Asians disrespect black people generally. Asians can't come to terms why brothers would help cooperate with the whiteman and sell their own brothers/sisters to slavery. Asians care less if you are black African or Black American. The success of the transatlantic slave trade effectively placed Black people at the bottom of the race heirachy.
The same shyte is still going on in sub-saharan Africa. The politicians are now the new slave masters.

Slavery happened cause it was destined to happened

And Africans didn't sell their brothers as u say

Rather the imperialist first started kidnapping
then latter when caught in the act they started forcefully taking

Then latter forced the leaders to give them slaves
else they wipe their community
Leaders resulted in kidnapping from other towns to save their town
Then it degenerated to selling of slaves by leaders who had become corrupt

Africans themselves are the victim and were busy fighting to drive away invaders as well as remove corrupt leaders

But it was the time for it to happen

West Africa was the destination
cause to build any topmost civilization the blood and sweat of a certain type of black people is needed

By the way 400yrs ago slavery was not the first

Worst has happened to this same 'type" of black people centuries ago in India, China, north America and the middle East

This is talked about more cause it's recent (500yrs ago)

You are right
But not 100 %

Let's use our country Nigeria as an example

Most of the tribalism in Nigeria is fuelled by what our parents parents told us

You can't deny it
You know
.While some of us have chosen to jettison such tribal superiority nonsense
Many are still victims of it
They refused to change partly because they wrre indoctrinated by Childhood

A study I read showed that most people start exhibiting racist /tribalism tendencies from 6-7 years
Prior to that
99% of kids don't show racial behaviour, as they see their peers from elsewhere as same

So you see
My point is still valid
Even tho I understand that by choice, we can struggle to break free from it
You are right also. My point is these white guys are not victims. Most of them have had the opportunity to interact with black people, but chose to hold into their belief.
