They are puppies bro, when they eventually start showing their guard instincts, na you go dey fear make them no kill person... My late gsd bitch, at 9 months, she was still very playful, but when she eventually became fully matured, when she snaps here, me sef I no dey fit hold her back... I attached a picture below of my GSD puppy currently, she's 6 months and a week old, she loves playing with strangers. This doesn't mean that she won't eventually become a guard dog. I just let her mature in peace because size isn't maturity. Dogs have different temperaments individually, but if they're breeds specifically for guarding, the instincts would eventually show up bro. If you should eventually watch them closely, they must have started showing at least slight I stints towers guarding... They are still puppies bro, let them mature in peace. Don't listen to any unprofessional impatient human telling you to kill the dog, or that you got goats, or just saying shit about them... They honestly and obviously know nothing about breeding dogs. Love those dogs, in time soon, you will be marvelled. Mark my words bro.

I'm happy there are still genuine dog lovers like you in the dog community.
It amazes me when people complain that their dog which is still basically a puppy, haven't mauled people yet. In my deepest of hearts I ask how such people are allowed to own dogs. This is why we have so many strays because people fail to realise the responsibilities involved in owning a dog.

What alarms me the most is the amount of people that rush to bad ideas about the raising of their dogs. It fills my heart with sorrow.

I haven't been on nairaland for a while but I think it's time to revive my 'dog training and socialization' thread. Even if I'm able to influence just one person, it will go a long way

Look for a dog farm with harsh dogs, leave them there for a month... Or buy any small Mongrel that is harsh and they can learn. I have a Caucasian that runs from even rats and birds, my Xmas chicken beat am.

Why are you guys expecting so much from a puppy?...give your puppy time, expose him to different situations to build his confidence with time the guard instinct ll kick in. Read other people's thread and learn

I also own a working Boerboel, who is currently 22months old, so I can speak on behalf of my own experience as well.....only difference is my Boerboel is used for mostly guarding against predators like Baboons, Caracals, Jackels and the occasional Leopard(however I've only seen 1 in our area for the last 6 years) not really for guarding against people, however the principle stays the same.

my dog was aggressive from as early as 4-5 weeks while some show aggression at 8 months, some show at 1 yr.
different dogs have different development speeds, to my dog you dog is a late bloomer same way these dogs are late bloomers to your Shepherd.
read the "my dog is not aggressive" threads here on NL and see how in the end the owners always come back to testify that the instincts kicked in later.
territorial instincts are not like an alarm that comes at a particular age, the best thing you can do is to get dogs with territorial ancestors and also train your dog and wait till whenever it comes.
