Was there anything called Christianity in those passages?

Colossians 2:20-22
20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, 21( Touch not; taste not; handle not; 22 Which all are to perish with the usingwink after the commandments and doctrines of men?

you are free, it doesn't make a difference. With it or without, you're still a sinner. But when you recieve Jesus , you live for him and not for the flesh.

@ Kay 17 >>> you are taking the Bible out of context >>> how ? you make the least use of cross-referencing >>> all to push a biased slant (i.e opinion)

do put the same effort expended here in checking other passages in the Bible (which I presume you have read) which also talk about the why such laws were effected and how they apply now

now granted I suppose that you are correct (that Christians have 'common sins') >>> give me your conclusion ? or better put, what d'you want me to conclude ?

My conclusion is this; since u have being unable to make a reasonable defence, the bible is not suitable to our times, it dictates to primitive and uncivilized ppls. It ought to be abandoned and forgotten.
It sets contradictory theme on the immutable will of god. An unchanging god can not have two wills!

^^^^^ Alright, Kay 17. Now that you will 'abandon and forget' YOUR OWN COPY OF THE BIBLE , please let those of us who find OUR COPIES OF THE BIBLE 'SUITABLE TO OUR TIMES' have some peace!  grin It is not by force to adhere to the Bible! Issssssssssssh! BTW, If God is dead as you say in your signature, and we harm no one by believing otherwise, why are you bothering us?

The bible is not a text book. The word of God is for sons of God. You can't understand nor interpret the bible until you get born again and recieve the spirit of God. You are looking at spiritual things from natural perspective.

1 Corinthians 2:14. (KJV)
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know[ them], because they are spiritually discerned.

 1 Corinthians 2:14 (AMPLIFIFED)
14 But the natural, nonspiritual man does not accept or welcome or admit into his heart the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit of God, for they are folly( meaningless nonsense) to him; and he is incapable of knowing them[ of progressively recognizing, understanding, and becoming better acquainted with them] because they are spiritually discerned and estimated and appreciated.

@ i do not see the need for such rituals (holy spirit), critical thinking should be sufficient. Religion generally is self protective, it creates its strange methods of validation.

Naija people will now quote Colossians 2:20 or 1 Corinthians 2:14. But the same peple will be quick to quote Deuteronomy 22:5 when they want to talk about women wearing trousers or guys wearing earings or Malachi when they want to talk about tithes.
People pick what they want from the bible depending on how it affects their lifestyles. How many know that in Biblical times males wore earings (Check Exodus 32:2) or that some men braided their hair(Judges 16:13 -Samson who was dedicated to God had 7 braids). Till today Jewish Rabbis who are direct descendants of Israelite still plait there hair.
I have never heard a Naija pastor or Christian quote Deuteronomy 10:9 or Numbers 18 where God said the Levites or Priests were to have no inheritance. They did not own any property but lived off tithes and offerings. or that in Deuteronomy it was staed that people should eat their tith at the tabarnacle.
We hold onto whatever it is that suites us and discard the rest when it inconviniences usgrin grin

Do you keep any of the laws above? If YOU DO NOT, why are you complaining that others do not keep them? The same Bible tells you here:

Romans 7:4 (King James Version)

4Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Why do you seek to burden those who have been freed when you do not carry the same burden yourself? The children of God have the Laws of God written in their hearts and have the Holy Spirit as their corrector. THEY KNOW BY THE SPIRIT WHAT IS RIGHT TO DO!
