My fellow Nigerians I urge us all to take COVID-19 very serious. Look at Europe and the USA, and all other countries with significant number of cases. They all started off with low numbers for a few weeks, and then boom! the numbers rose at very increased pace which they’re still struggling to contain. Most of the developed countries in this category have superb testing protocols in place, In talking capability of testing Tens of thousands daily. Hence their tally of cases are somewhat reliable, albeit inaccurate still, due to asymptomatic cases. Nigeria’s testing rate compared to population size is almost zero. I’m not going to go into the reasons for this, as we all know. Therefore, the best way to reduce casualties and buy time until a vaccine is found is social distancing and good hand washing techniques/ routine. Also if you think life will go back to the same without a vaccine, then my apologies. The restrictions in place at the moment are here to stay till further notice until a reliable vaccine is found. As for those claiming all sorts regarding vaccine, please be careful who you listen to. Judge for yourself and take informed decision, without any sentiment. I guarantee you, the day the approved reliable vaccine gets into Nigeria, those GOs making noise now will be the first to use their connections to go get them for themselves and their families. As usual, the poor and those with no connections will be left to pay the price with their lives, after giving their monies to these tricksters in the name of tithe. I’m a born again Christian by the way, so don’t even go wailing “atheist”! Also those who sell their votes for 1000 Naira/ small bag of rice, the chickens have come home to roost. I hope we learn a few things from this pandemic, one of which is that our vote is our voice and is worth a lot more than 1000 Naira. COVID-19 is a leveller , everyone is vulnerable; the rich, old, young, poor, Christian, Muslim, atheists etc. I do understand that lack of funds is making an already hard system , harder. But you’re of no use to your family and loved ones dead. Your children and loved ones need you alive, please do what you can to stay safe. If Nigerians don’t heed to the directive to isolate/ quarantine, sadly the USA numbers will be nothing. I’ve been self isolating for about a month now, and we’re seeing the benefits here as the curve has flattened and we’re headed for zero cases soon, God willing. However we know that we still can’t relax as there is no vaccine. As a Christian, I believe God already answered a huge part of our prayers regarding COVID-19 by giving scientists the wisdom to discover that social distancing and good hand hygiene can keep us safe, buying us time until a vaccine is found. Please heed the warning, and we will all rejoice at the end of it all, in the land of the living. Ps: I don’t live in Nigeria, but a Nigerian forever. 7 Likes 1 Share |

johnlegend01: “Some learned people” are the ones indirectly engineering this disregard for the lockdown. We don’t know that even our conducts educates the illiterates and the uneducated literate. By the time the figure soars high, our brain will reset itself. We have wasted almost 3 weeks in lockdown because we aren’t complying. This figure up there will drastically reduce to nought if we tow the line of China. 1 Like |

wman:correct. Even that 17% is very uncertain. Remember this is a novel virus, thus, only time can tell. What has been discovered is antibodies earlier found in serum of those recovered, over time disappeared. So for that 17%, the serum probably would have to be analysed from time to time to ascertain if the antibodies are still present, say for at least one year. For now, even the earliest of recovered patients will be somewhere around 4mths, using a dec 2019 to date window. It is a very tricky situation. Repeated Booster doses would be the way to go WHEN a vaccine is eventually created 2 Likes |

Muhylonaire: When it was 2593 cases here in the UK only 5 death was recorded. Death rate start climbing as the number of cases increases cos at that point the health sector would start being overwhelmed hence the increase in moetality rate. 4 deaths is one day is a warning for what's to come. We don't pray for it but let's brace up cos reality will soon hit home. |

Love4God:. You are conflicting Total Active Cases with Total Confirmed cases. Total confirmed cases will never decrease, it is an ever increasing number and will document the total number of people that got infected regardless if the passed or recover. What you are referring to, is Total Active cases which will account for total deaths plus total discharged....Total Active cases will fluctuate up and down each day and the best scenario is for it to eventually reduce to zero. 1 Like |

calaharry:Stop spreading misinformation. There is not research showing that blacks are unaffected. In fact in black populated areas in the U. S African Americans and Africans have a higher mortality rate than Whites. I was checking a map yesterday and the mortality rate in Nigeria is still on the lower side. However, our health system can get overwhelmed pretty quickly if the infection rates skyrockets. Lagos is the epicenter. LASG needs to enforce mask wearing and wearing them correctly and also provide free masks. And FG needs to provide Palliatives especially in Hotspots because people will disobey the lock down if they are hungry and confirm cases and crime will then increase. 2 Likes |
