ekpeye people have the stronger identity crisis than any other igbo tribe,i have never met an ekpeye person who would accept the igbo tag,the easiest way to get lynched is to tell them they are igbo, the least they can accept is igboid, the educated ones among them will easily tell you that igboid=ekpeye+igbo.I think their problem is inferiority complex.
I met one of them in a bank in okigwe,he was making a call, and he was speaking a language i was sure is igbo but i could only understand 3% of what he was saying,he was having problem with the bank security man who was insisting he should off his phone, out of curiousity i decided to check out his withdrawal booklet,i saw that his first name sounds non igbo but the surname was AGUIYI,when asked if he was igbo, the dude got so explosive and made it clear that he is ekpeye and cannot be igbo.
There is one of them here in nland who wil not hesitate to derail this thread if he sees bayelsa in this thread, bottomline, akwa ibom can be included but not bayelsa
Interesting.

I guess it depends on whom you meet. I know Ekpeye people who readily agree that they are Igbo.

really? Of course they wil accept igbo tag when they have a lot to gain by claiming such, especially when they reside in the SE,my favourite cousine is married to an ekpeye guy,her father used live in ahoada, the way those peeps treat other igbos is not encouraging.Dude if you value your life dont go to ekpeye land and start telling them they are igbos, its the easiest way to get lynched.
My inlaw identifies as igbo, but when his parents and people came for igbankwu, they made it clear that they are not igbo as they kept mumuring about why their son is geting married to an igbowoman.I dont know what ohanaeze is doing about these people, they feel that their seeming difference with other igbo clans will make them odd and second class igbos, this insecurity makes them to reject igbo tag and cling onto the ekpeye tag,and then there is this fear of domination from other igbo clans up north,my inlaw agrees but not totally with these points.

[size=16pt]There are no indigenious Igbos whatsoever in Edo State, so remove Edo State from your list.  Can you tell me  which is igbo amongst the highlighted. I wonder how Edo state have 4 votes when clearly there are no Igbo's in the state, is it that some people don't even know their tribes anymore.

bros, there is an anioma tribe of ika extraction in orhionmwon lga of edo state, they are called IGBANKE(igboakiri),they will be joined with their kin and kith in ika delta state when anioma state is created
The story of igbanke is really a painful one, they have been marginalized in edo state, they lack a lot of basic amenities, they have been clamouring to be joined with their brothers in ika delta state but to no avail,i dont know what ohanaeze and SE governors are doing about the condition of igbanke in edo state, these people have been holding the frontiers of alaigbo and have stood against bini imperialism for years, they must not be forgotten or forsaken, they deserve better, its these kind of isolation behaviour by SE that lead to igbo denial by these people.

@vicenzo: Very interesting. Is it getting worse or better over time, this disconnect?
no,its not getting better or worse,i think the problem is caused by both parties, what these people need is a sense of belonging,a situation where uwaechue is the first president of ohanaeze from a part of igboland outside SE, the resentment he met from some SE elements when he was appointed, the endorsement of orji kalu over pat utomi in 2007 all but shows the high handedness of SE towards other igbos, hopefully the rotational presidency between abia, anambra, delta, enugu, imo, rivers, will help fix this problem.
The clan nature of igbo nation is part of what produces this problem,an example can be seen in the clamour for ngwa state(ngwa ethnic nationality) by ngwa people, despite being a majority tribe in abia state, ngwa is yet to produce the governor of abia state, their lack of unity of purpose has made them subjects to the better organized northern tribes,Aba,their beloved city has been bought and is being controlled by other igbo tribes,up to the extent that the person representing aba north/aba south in federal house of rep is not an ngwa man,the ngwa man is getting increasingly uncomfortable with the igbo tag, they have been made second class citizens in their land, worthy of deputy governor only, the question now is:why be a second class igbo/abian,when you can be a first class citizen in an ngwa state/ethnic nationality.
Re: Igbo Census You Must Participate by ektbear: 7:24am On Apr 25, 2011
^-- I feel very bad for the Ngwa people. Remind of native americans, or some sort of colonized group. I cannot imagine not being able to hold political power in your own homeland.
