checkout the thickness of this rigid pavement road
aba-owerri road by osisioma.
one of the projects this present administration would be remembered for is tackling the flood menace that rubbished aba -owerri road.
while on that, azikiwe road is nearing the end of its useful life. it's time for expanding (to a six lane dual carriageway) than waiting for it to totally fail

It appears that Gov Okezie Ikpeazu has at last woken up to his responsibility and decided to rescue Aba that was abandoned since 1999. Many reports from non-government sources indicate that some major streets in Aba were being reconstructed with concrete. But has not been completed.

My advise to his propagandists is just to post the finished roads and their names, people will verify if its true or not. Also, people will verify if its a recent picture or not.

Aba has several youtube vlogers. In time, we shall begin to see some of these improved roads in their vlogs and Gov. Okezie will not need the services of amateur touts to convince anybody.

I usually ignore hoodlums and they can continue to write and respond to their own ignorance a thousand times with many monikers, until they wear themselves out. But, i briefly looked through your profile and i'm not sure if you are writing out of sincerity. So i'll respond just once.

I am different from you paid hatchet writers because i neither care if the politician is in APC, PDP or APGA. Nor if the state is Abia, Ebonyi or Anambra. I am ONLY concerned about the development of Igboland. I don't even read thread outside my area of interest because it concerns people from that region.

Aba is perhaps the greatest Igbo city, yet it was neglected by successive Abia governors since 1999 beginning with Orji Uzor Kalu! Thus, responsible Igbo people have continued to condemn and openly expose the foolhardiness of neglecting Aba, the greatest city with the greatest potential to propel the Abia state, massively increase the IGR, and lead the industrial renaissance of the entire SE region, and opting to focus on developing other mushroom towns in Abia state.

If Abia Governor turn a new leaf and begin a massive urban renewal of Aba instead of senseless propaganda on the internet with half educated brats, then i will openly acknowledge and praise their new attitude towards Aba. Again, i totally don't care if you repost, insult, cajole or do whatever you like about my post. It doesn't change my opinion nor will it make me to lie on your behalf in my next post unless i verify that indeed the roads have been fixed.

No need for the caveat. Don't be afraid, I won't bite.

However, it is always wise to judge every leader differently. Nobody is saying ikpeazu is Aba's Messiah, not at all, but it's wiser to acknowledge some effort he is making in Aba for a start.

Shell’s 20km gas pipeline connects industrial zones in Aba

Lagos — Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) has completed the final phase of its 20km domestic gas pipeline expansion project in Abia State, connecting Agbor Hill, Osisioma and Araria industrial zones.
The project has also enabled the supply of pipeline gas to Ariaria Market Energy Solutions Limited, the Independent Power Project (IPP) consortium that provides electricity to the popular Ariaria market in Abia State. Ariaria International Market is one of the largest leather shoe-making and open stall markets in West Africa, with over 37,000 shops and an estimated one million traders.
Managing Director, SNG, Ed Ubong, said, “We are proud of this domestic gas infrastructure investment which allows the industries in Abia to have more reliable and cleaner source of energy. SNG is committed to supporting Nigeria’s industrialisation provided there is a stable regulatory environment in the domestic gas sector that allows investors recover their investment .”
Managing Director, NICEN Industries Limited, a paint and plastics manufacturer connected to the pipeline gas, Christopher Eze, said, “SNG has put life back into our industries in Aba through the provision of this natural gas line. This milestone will open up the state for an influx of investors thereby creating an enabling environment that will generate job opportunities for the youth of the State. I am sure that many industries in Aba will quickly take advantage of this great opportunity. Our company sincerely appreciates SNG for this great feat”.
Also speaking on the completion of the expansion project, President of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mansur Ahmed, said, “MAN is proud of the role that Shell is playing in driving industrialisation in Nigeria through domestic gas supply. Industries and manufacturing plants play a key role in transforming the Nigerian economy and this project will connect many manufacturers in Abia State, one of the nation’s major industrial hubs, to pipeline gas, which is a cheaper, cleaner and more reliable source of energy.
According to Ahmed, the gas supply to the Ariaria Market IPP would strengthen micro, small and medium enterprises in the Abia State and enhance the operating environment for manufacturing to thrive.
SNG together with its partners and local stakeholders has agreements to build infrastructure and deliver natural gas to over 150 industrial and commercial customers, mostly in Ogun, Abia, Rivers, Bayelsa and Lagos States. This will drive industrialisation, provide employment for skilled and unskilled local population in addition to directly improving internally generated revenues in these states.
With a reputation for safety, credibility and reliability, SNG has maintained a 16-year streak of successful ISO 14001 certification and has operated for over 10 years without any lost time injuries.

This is good! Aba needs to regain its position as an industrial city. The state government should ensure that roads are in good condition as well as proper waste disposal.

Also, I don't know why Ariaria market and others in Aba have remained the way they were since 1970's. Abia lacks sophisticated thinking governors otherwise, they would have modernized the markets in tranches. For God's sake this is 2020 and we should be thinking of building mall-like markets. When commerce is integrated with tourism it can yield massive revenue. That is what Dubai and China has done and Aba and Onitsha should be thinking in that direction.

Now that shell is supplying gas straight to Ariaria, it is now easy to build massive malls to replace those archaic shops. With a dedicated gas supply, there can be 24 hours light and central cooling systems without the sellers having to pay through their noses. Who needs to go to ShopRite when Ariaria is just like it selling everything cheaper.

I don't know why we have mediocres as governors, these things won't cost much to build but the multiplier effect can be massive. Having thousands of shops with all of them using generators, with leaky roofs, gutters in front of shops and flooding whenever it rains is nothing but madness.

Anybody who is close to Okezie Ikpeazu should tell him to replace all those old shops at Ariaria with massive malls, if the state does not have the resources to do so (which is not possible) then he partner with private developers. The rest of the world is living us behind and we shouldn't allow that.

You're right, Aba used to be about the most important city in the whole of the old Eastern region. Many people elites were even living in the city then including the likes of Margaret Ekpo, Dennis Osadebe and several others but today, the elite and the proliterates have all ran away leaving only traders, even graduates hardly return to the city on leaving school. It's quite sad.

bro ikpeazu till date hasn't shown any foresight/desire to modernize markets in Abia.
our people are also resistant to change.
Take this instances:
1) Aba mega mall -5 years since completion it is laying fallow and that's a mall built to international standard.
2)2015, a South African group proposed modernising ariaria (electric lifts, covered roofs, fire service and the works). if the market union had accepted the firm would have made up their money from expanding the market-Ariaria trade union protested till that idea died down.
3)etche road strip mall-the builder is yet to complete construction because few people signed onto the project
4)ekumi Plaza -this modern market built by a bank which is located deep in Ariaria isn't full for 3 years now.

point is Aba people need force to accept change. Ikpeazu unfortunately lacks the will to do such (bring down or at least relocation of ariaria, new market and Shopping Centre). unfortunately again, those shops sells for over 2 million naira -In some instances -how do you destroy or relocate such?
unless he pulls off what Rocha's did with Douglas market, I don't see any change happening
The government made a mistake selling the shops instead of leasing them for a maximum of 10 years.

yet again, some of this markets like new market are witnessing failure and subsequent abandoning of buildings -definitely in the nearest future modernisation of thread in Aba would begin
market square opened up the first mall franchise in Aba this year, with the massive patronage the garner everyday I hope more of such outfits would spring up.

By his grace I don't need government money or even your praise -but I and few others got tired of seeing my city aba denigrated beyond truth.

This video was shot about a week ago. Those here selling propaganda should understand that nobody is fooled. We are begging you guys to clean up Aba and fix the roads of this great city. Abia state can never be said to be developed until Aba becomes a great city again. If they like, they can tar all the roads in Abriba, Arochukwu or Umuahia. Without fixing Aba, Abia state is dead and a non-viable place.

It is a shame what you have allowed Aba to become!
