I just cant imagine an igbo president if Nigeria is not yet divided then. The scars of biafra is still fresh and there are fears another biafra will arise with an igbo president.

The fears of Nigeria never functioning well since Ibo people have been schemed out of leadership is more real. The scars of poverty, corruption, poor developement and lack of direction is even bigger since 1967.

Nigeria's problems are wayyyyyy bigger than the tribe of its president. The country is at a cross-roads and is hanging on the edge.
Re: Can You Imagine An Igbo President? by 1025: 11:54am On Jan 28, 2011
every igboman can do better than our past presidents. if anyone is to imagine anything, i think it will be imgining nigeria having the first woman president in the name of Madam Dora or Okonjo Iweala. i have to mention these two names as internationally certified products of igbo land and nationally tested and trusted made in nigeria products.
in their positions as Nafdac and finance bosses respectively, they have done better than any other minsiter anyone can mention as far as nigeria is concerned.
they lived above board and have been the only reason for anyone to say that there are still very few good nigerians.
as long as nigeria and nigerians continue to shy away from these realistic truths and revealations of our time, we will continue in our round-about system of movements.

yes I totally agree with you nna! but not dora

If/When an Igbo person becomes president, he should choose a female Hausa/Northerner, that should be an interesting match up

Odein Ajumogbia for Igbo presidency cool

You mean we should not mention Dora's 2 years as a member of our EXECUTIVE GOVERNMENT?  shocked

@Poster, Considering the current stock of Ibo leaders, I don't believe we have anyone I will be willing to vote for. Note: for an Ibo to win the presidency, he/she would need to convince much of Nigeria of his stock, and I don't see anyone who comes close today.

I don't understand how people come up with this kind of statements.
Ironically the Doras, Okonjos and Soludos that we are all quick to boast about were given their chance not by an SE governor but by other people from "enemy" tribes. This same folks will not win an election in the SE or given a chance to excel in thier locale .

Well, we need a leader, thats all and tribes don't make them.

No, I cannot imagine an Igbo being president of Nigeria. That is the sad truth. A major ethnicity trapped outside of power. I never heard of such.

What an unfortunate statement. But in the widest of your inadequate imagination, you saw multitude of qualified individuals from other Nigeria’s ethnic stock to assume the presidency in Nigeria. In fact, I do not blame anybody but Ndigbo who remained docile since the end of the civil war. This type of unfounded political shenanigan spurs many of us to agitate for a separate homeland so we can give the likes of kobojunkie the ample opportunity to tell us “we told you so” as Ndigbo wallow in their political stupor.

I agree with you my brother. And people wonder why the bulk of the Ndigbo do not wish to be in this nation.

i still believe Nigerian problems will continue to linger on until we start looking at things from the right perspective,
the poster is making me to think that the yorubas and hausas are the ones governing Abia, Imo, Anambra, Enugu and othe SE states.

what difference did the igbo governors in their respective states make. Abeg, ok, tell me they are the bad igbos, right?

Our problem with leadership will continue in this current state until we remove tribal appellations from it. I dont think the tribe of the leader will help in solving our problems.

Surely, there is an intrinsic trust issue when it comes to the "igbo tribe" but i believe just like all wounds, it will heal with time.
the challenge is for us to build leaders within ourselves that will be ready for tomorrow irrespective of their tribes and religion.

Most of these posters were born after the Civil War and they continue to hate the Ndigbo. You said time heals everything. No. There is real anger amongst Igbo youth. Everyday we are hearing our people are being targeted in the North. I thought we were Nigerians?

Everyday, we have to suffer the ridicule, the slaps in our face and the disrespect of our people. Enough is enough. There will come a day when the Igbo rise up, and you better hope that day is not not near. Because the way things are looking in the world, Nigeria could implode at any moment.

until igbo media stop painting northerners as murders

then there will be no igbo president till ,, ,.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Re: Can You Imagine An Igbo President? by 9javoice1(m): 7:45pm On Jan 28, 2011
i cant say how sooner that maybe. but its sure to happen. looking at the situation of things now in Nigeria where the fear of igbos is the unity of Nigeria. now the Hausa's has falling out of power. they have not seen it but watch well you will see it. eg do you know that no north central man can vote for a Hausa/Faunie candidate. the Yoruba's can vote Hausa/Fulani when the opposition candidate is from south east but if not they can't. but no Niger deltan can vote Hausa/Fulani not even south East can.

now watch, the Hausa's in the past has fought SE(biafran war), SW(kwara), SS(Niger delta) , now fighting NC(jos crises) so all these zone's has lost total trust with the Hausa's infact they hate them so much but are a little bit afraid to say it out in case they come back to power. the Hausa's in their end is afraid of the igbo's because they know the rise of igbo's will be the fall of one giant among the standing two,but surely SW wont fall its the Hausa/Fulani that will fall because they have no solid foundation.

if we are talking about a credible candidate from alaigbo ,look they are many, even the worst ones we see in alaigbo is better than the best Hausa/Fulani has. frankly if Dora or Okonjo or Soludo is from the NORTH or SW they will be hottest candidate every Nigeria will vote for but war has set igbo's 25yrs backwards. but allthings changes with time.

Excuses excuses. Those "born after the war", did they not have mothers, fathers, aunties, etc. that survived, fought and died during that era? I know many Igbo youth that arent angry at all, and instead, enjoying the wealth Naija has. They just arent holding on to the past or getting worked up on newspaper reports.

Igbo leaders have failed their own people (as the case is with SS and Middle Belt, and even Yoruba). Those 6 Igbo govs that have been in power since 1999, what have they done, along with the 5 Senate Presidents una produced?

So Biafra was noble, but time to move on and hold your current leaders at all levels accountable. Duh?

What's the fear for an Igbo president? What's this thing I'm reading here about Ndigbo not being Nigerian enough? As an Igboman having grown-up amongst fellow Ndigbo and other Nigerians, many Ndigbo are the only ones who still believe in One Nigeria than any other ethnic group - to my utter amazement and astonishment!

People are here afraid of the emergence of an Igbo president whilst you guys still want us in the geographical fraud called Nigeria. You can't eat your cake and have it. Its one or the other.

The wind of change is blowing through the North of Africa. It'll be migrating Southwards any time soon. Already Ivory Coast is on fire. Nigeria will blow-up soon.

Truth be told, unlike other ethnic groups that can just put forward a below average candidate like obj, Yarasickler, Joeboy etc and still win elections, Igbo people will need to present a leader/candidate that can earn the trust/respect of many other ethnic groups in Nigeria, in other to win the presidency and so far such candidates/leaders are scarce.

But I still have much respect for Okonjo Iweala (though I doubt the ability of other Igbo  leaders to rally behind her). I used to like Soludo and Akinyuli, but recently they have scored themselves low in my book.

There's nothing like "winning" elections in Nigeria or that Obasanjo won this or that. Elections are RIGGED in 9ja and so if an Igbo candidate is presented by PDP then its a win by, the Laws of Rigging.

Exactly my point! I believe this is the one and only reason why no ibo has been able to break that ceiling. They do not spend time being relevant OUTSIDE of their group, which is still a minority group when compared with the other two major groups out there.

Okonjo Iweala is NOT a presidential candidate, in my opinion. She is good where she is but not presidential candidate. Pushing her into a presidential package will be viewed as sign of desperation by me.

The other two you mentioned, we already know them are more regional(Ibo Champions) than National(Nigeria) champions. I doubt Dora Akunyili enjoys the same levels of support from people outside of her ethnic umbrella there.  And so putting any one of them up at this point will be a waste for Ibo nation .

Odein is still majorly a nobody to most of Nigeria, even the SE.

And that's what money can solve nowadays. The only reason why GEJ won the primaries was due to the massive out-bribery of the delegates than Atiku's bribery attempts. Everyone's after their own pocket now in 9ja. Even in the north, the political unity and cohesion that they're known for, has disappeared. If the power of incumbency which is GEJ, decide on an Igbo presido in 2015 then, it'll happen by, . . . . you guessed it right, the POWERS OF RIGGING.
