The government breached the contract agreement at first, a programme that is meant for two years, they extended it all because of election campaigns, of course it won't speak well of the government if they disengaged the volunteers amid election after they made promises to the volunteers during election ' *YOUR PERMANENCY LIES ON YOUR VOTER'S CARD*.
I don't see reason why the government can't give these sets of youths jobs or rather a grant, why being so wicked and insensitive

How many would they give grants? 500,000?

As the first set enjoyed, I would love to see another set enjoy too.

If you ask most of the present Npower beneficiaries, they would tell government to give them 600k and close the programme.

What I don't understand is why you think 1000 naira per day for two years can really empower anyone in Nigeria. They're greedy for receiving 1k naira per day for two years, according to you. But those stealing their future are what exactly? Your future too! U go receive sense one day

The scheme itself was a success but as a venture is a long term venture. Returns isn't in sight and salaries are not being generated from within the scheme yet. It makes sense to give the disengaged beneficiaries a lump sum to help them become small business owners but the money isn't there like that. This has to happen.

Hmm....30,000 for....10 million people, 20 million a month on a long term basis is not a well thought out scheme. If you cannot get the participants making stuff, serving stuff, offering stuff in good time the entire nation will go under financially.

If only 400k bens are demanding two thirds of a trillion I think I better follow the escapees and flee the country.

See eh. When business is bad (like the Nigerian economy faces now with low oil prices) and your account is tanking your driver becomes your security man and you give him coffee black to keep him on the road. When it becomes worse he will also become your cook even if you spend hours in the lavatory.

The only options available for Nigeria is to pay for the widest available service providers. If you are sponsoring youth to become enterpreneurs you must direct them towards saving you money else where while generating for the economy as well, two jobs. You just cannot afford to let them do as they please, go and come as they like. You will go bankrupt.

Nigerian youths!!!! Listen up you deserve better. Imagine these greedy wicked politicians who do nothing but rake in millions monthly in salaries and looted funds are telling you you they can't pay a miserly 30k monthly to only 500,000 beneficiaries. Like WTF! angry

It is greed that will kill the NPower protesters.

They will do worse than corrupt politicians if given the chance.

$1200 (600k) grants in a country where only 10% of people earn above $1000(500k) a year. On what basis are they deserving of this? Because they are graduates who just enjoyed 900k income over the last two years for doing nothing?

]You were employed and told you will exit in 24months.

1. What did you do with your money and time?
2. A good number had other jobs while others had spare time to do other things
3. Let's stop depending on the government for everything.

Ask those worked for 35years what they were doing with their money. Just 24months you want them to own heaven on earth. May be you are one of those unsuccessful beneficiaries.

So what about those billions stolen by the said government. Are u saying is that if they should give them grant to start there own business after serving the country twice. How much is 30k per month? I know how much I spent on data, feeding, my mother, sisters, brothers and friends in a week. I am one of the npower volunteers, I started my business after a yr as a volunteer, but is possible for me bcs am still still single. Many are married and the stipend was not enough for feeding alone. If government want to lift them from poverty, I see no big deal in giving us grant even if z 200k or more.
God bless you for this. Even if its a 200k grant let them give us access to it so we can do something tangible.

This is the same mentality that has been killing Nigeria. In 1972, Gowon and Jerome Udoji tripled civil servants salary just to score cheap political points while wasting the country's resources.

The NPower Program was not needed in the first place but the current administration was determined to make cheap political wins, even extending the program more than the agreed period and creating an entitlement mentality among the "beneficiaries". Even the choice of word to describe participants "beneficiaries" is wrong as it reflects a desire to share money on the basis of charity rather than create economic impact.

It would have been far better for them to use the 450 Billion (Yes, that's the amount paid to NPower Beneficiaries) to establish a loan fund where youth entrepreneurs could take 5-7 year loans of 5-10 million to start a business.

45,000 businesses could have been established with the above and by charging a small interest rate, say 5 percent per year, the government can get returns on the money and be able to continue the program.

45,000 permanent businesses would be far better than 500,000 temporary "jobs".

If you truly, truly used the money for self development how then can you be in a precarious situation. At least you should have left life support to the emergency ward status which is better.

But I understand without proper vision and guidance this will happen. If my daddy always gave me a pouch of cash for school fees right from kindergarten as his only obligation towards my education I certainly will not have seen the four walls of any school.

Precarious means being jobless in a country like Nigeria.

You mentioned you had a dad who pays for you and even gives pocket money, no matter how little you assume it is. I interpret that to mean that you have a golden spoon at birth. Obviously, you don't know what it means to go hungry. If you do, you will know that a person with responsibilities can't save nor invest anything out of N30k in Nigeria. Some of us struggled with the fees before we can finish school. Then we have to help younger ones to continue in school with the same npower N30k. Some families depend solely on that money such that it was impossible to save a kobo. Personally, I think FG and Npower should quietly end the program since they have made up their mind to do so, and avoid making statements like this in the press, especially when they don't have any positive alternative to offer. I will never forget that Rhoda Iliya is the first person who released the news that the program was going to end.

Honestly, we all new the program was to last for 24 months, and maybe it was free money for some people, but I personally taught my classes, conducted and graded assessment test and exams for a class of over 150 pupils, so government did not give me free money.

I'll be selfish to say I don't understand the plight of my fellow members and don't have alternative income source. However, everything with a beginning has an end, and we should all accept this in good faith. It was never meant to be a long term solution, no one can plan or start a family with the stipend we were paid to be honest, or even have meaningful savings after factoring transport to school and feeding.

Personally, I think the program needs to be redesigned with an exit plan that doesn't leave participants in a limbo. That's the only way it will be sustainable and truly rewarding. If government should still carry one with the present method, the unemployment they are trying to solve will remain unsolved.

God bless and help us all

These are very stuupid to protest, Nigerians we are not helping ourselves, we like corner corner in everything we do. What did they do with their time while on that programme? Did the govt promise them what they are demanding? This absolute rubbish and its sign how irresponsible these people.
The problem of this country is way beyond these old men but youths like u. I heard the government promised to permanent them if they help return the government to power and now they want to go against that. besides for a citizen to ask for a grant from his country is not a bad thing. why are some of us been so sentimental in something that is likely to start a new era in Nigeria. U see the reason these old men will keep shortchanging the youths is because of people like u and some others who are against what these people are fighting for.

WHAT STOP NDDC AND OTHER STATE BODIES LIKE DESOPADEC, EDOSOPADEC etc FROM ESTABLISHING THEIR OWN NPOWER PROGRAMMES FOR YOUTH IN THE NIGER DELTA REGION.

Everything should not be left in the hands of the federal government, state government and local government.

We need another NPOWER Programme that is managed by the state and local government.

All we hear is NO MONEY ! NO MONEY ! but public officers are stealing this money using fictitious contract.

Illiterate. The agency you mentioned is FG. Who told you DESOPADEC has no youth employment program? You must not comment.

Re: Rhoda Iliya: FG Can Not Afford ₦300 Billion N-Power Beneficiaries’ Demands by famous121: 12:46pm On Jul 25, 2020
Taking a critical look at the programe and the amount paid as stipend, volunteers can not achieve anything tangible even if the program continues indefinitely, for the following reasons;
1. The stipend is 30,000.00 NGN I.e 1000 NGN per day which is not even enough take care of a primary school pupil per day.
2. Stipend payment is not constant each month, which force so many volunteers to leave on interest loan or loan from family and friends that the 30k stipend can never cover even when it eventually comes.
3. Due to fluctuations in payment volunteers can not have any savings to start anything called business.
4. Due to failure to pay stipend on time, N-power is not regarded as a JOB, no financial institution will lend any Npower volunteer loan or provide facility for any form of business. Even the weekly, bi weekly or monthly group contribution that is usually done within community will be forbidden for N-power volunteers, as they will always fail due to irregular payment of stipends.
5. During the commencement of the programe, N-power volunteers were promised to be trained and empowered with useful skills and provided a leraning device, which was a night mare for most the volunteers, particularly batch B.
Now tell me, has the program tackled unemployment or worsen the situation? The volunteers deserve befitting and handsome exit or transition packages.

What can 30k do to better the lives of graduates? They are greedy, some persons say. If you were in their shoes, you would carry billboards to protest.

The agitations to me are for the benefits of all. It is high time the government acted in the course of the youths.

How can you tell me that the federal government cannot afford #300 billion for n-power beneficiaries, is Nigeria all that poor? How much was spent in NEDC and NDDC with in one year with out executing any substantial project, how much has been spent on covid-19 stuff? I think this n-power is the best place to channel all the recovered looted funds. I rest my case!

But she spent double that figure in two weeks feeding imaginary school children. The Npower volunteers should just prepare for a bigger protest. This government only reacts to violence.

The government promised them heaven and earth before and during the election period, they must be held accountable for every promise.

You might want to Google up the facts so you update yourself. The government promised to give them jobs, that no single volunteer will return to the streets cheesy. Well, it was so sweet when they needed the votes, now the consequences of their unguarded statements is happening.
