Nigerians are very good at
cramming to get beautiful grades,
first class etc.

But we are helpless when it comes to
applying such knowledge to solve
practical problems to advance ourselves
or mankind.

To us, the certificate becomes an end
in itself instead of being a means
to Further advancement of unlimited vistas.

But please oga, what have you done with your own life? Do not belittle the achievement of others be it in Nigeria or in foreign lands and climes.
Have you got any news worthy achievements to your name?

Please share with us, since you are the perfect shinning example of how black African people should be celebrated.

Guy shut ur mouth and stop generalising. I went to Durham for my BSc and currently rounding up my MSc at imperial and I am igbo!!!

candidtalk:

You're just a bitter, hateful and tribalistic IPOBian hack. All your posts are nothing but attempts to denigrate "Afonja".

This is essentially the problem of most Igbos. You have been brainwashed from infancy to believe you are superior to all other black people and Africans. It shows in the ways you casually insult your fellow Nigerians and even other Africans as lazy, unambitious, unintelligent etc, etc.

Yorubas alone always bust your egocentric and megalomiac bubble and best you at everything. Be it Wole Soyinka Nobel Laureate, Tiwa Savage being the most dominant female African pop Musician in modern history or Tinubu's universal acclaim as the most accomplished political brain in Nigeria today. This is why you hate them. It is why you hate Tinubu and all dominant Yorubas.

If you know the UK, and especially London, you will know that what the Yoruba head teacher and Nigerian students are achieving at that Scbool is nothing less than extraordinary. Trust Igbos to always hate on the success and talent of others though rather than celebrate, praise or learn from it.

Not true sir, Nigerians are doing wonderful things all over the world. We just need our government to provide an enabling environment for them to consider relocating to Nigeria.
Security first, then constant electricity, these two alone will encourage many people to come back.

Most (not all)/northerners are “ba turenshi”. The two most obvious fruits, dividends and legacy of Islam in NorthernNigeria are Boko Haram (western education is an abomination) and Almanjiri subculture. Until BH are disbanded, and western education imbibed wholesale (even as the Saudis themselves do), Northerners would continue to live under the intellectual shadows of South Easterners and South Westerners. On the flip side, southern Nigeria really need to break away from those ba turenshi s9 we can develop. If at independence, the three regions sough and gained independence separately East and West would have massively developed. Northerners are the deadly cancer stunting our growth, they must be severed. Otherwise, we’ll never grow and develop. Even the colonialist didn’t rule all three regions as one entity. They knew it’s a failed project. If we fail to recognise this, Nigeria would continue to faulter.

And so what? The most important thing is there have Nigerian blood in and absolutely nothing wrong in Nigerians celebrating them and before you say shit I went to Durham and Imperial college for my BSc and MSc respectively and I consider myself Nigerian first and British thereafter.

They are British.
Carry the red passport from birth.
Only flood the Nigerian embassy when they want a visa to go to spend a holiday in their teenage age in Nigeria.
And run after 2 weeks.

Yet Nigerians will drool over them instead of using the opportunity to call out the Nigerian regime for consistently underfunding education in its budget.
Again, it is embarassing.

Intelligence is an individual thing and no group has monopoly of it. We are not better than our African brothers or anybody else. Now, what you can say is the useless Nigerian system has made Nigerians more resilient and more pragmatic in overcoming hardship. The reason Nigerians see the need to succeed as the air they breath. And we only believe success is in academic achievement else we are ready to kill ourselves for academic success. If you ask me, knowledge is beyond scoring A's or having 5.0 or 4.0 though it is not only Nigerians that have this kind of mentality but generally people from the third world countries like India and the rest.

Now when it comes to applying the true knowledge our Europeans counterpart, americans and even Japanese do better. That is education not just acquiring degree for social validation and job sake. Look at research in physics, chemistry, maths and the sciences in general these people do better but it does not mean they are better than us. But to them true knowledge is not about GPA or having A's all through.

Should the boys and girls be commended ? Yes ofcourse, but I don't see the need for national celebration as we have made it a culture. The same reason why Nigerians excel in academic than her African brothers is the same reason we excel in criminality? It simply a culture of we must succeed by all means possible that the system has built in us.

Very well put.
No need of me commenting as I just read my mind here.

Which wonderful things apart from

What is embarrassing about these students being attributed with Nigerians? One of their parents or both are Nigerians and that reflected in their Nigerian names.

There are countless Nigerians in USA alone that I know that doesn’t have a Nigerian passport and yet they can’t deny their root to Nigeria.

I have a colleague of mine, he was born in the USA and never been to Nigeria before in his whole life but yet he loves and project Nigeria more than I do. He doesn’t even have the Nigerian passport coz his parent doesn’t want him to go to Nigeria (I don’t know their reasons tho).

I have two question for you:
What makes one a Nigerian?

What makes one a Yoruba or Igbo?

My point:
They are being praised for an Education that is an investment of the British.
Tough to say, but it is a simple fact.

A total British education system- from their KS1-3/ Year 4 to Year 12 years, GCSE, A-Levels, etc.
There is, of course, no Nigerian input in this education.
Why Nigerians are quick to claim them bemuses me. Gosh, dont you find it embarassing?

But on a more serious note, taking a second look at this list and reminiscing on the history of Nigeria made me sad for some few moments.

To be honest, the afonjazees have messed up Nigeria. So when it comes to hardwork, diligence, knowledge and almost every other important positive HDIs' the Igbos and Yorubas are almost always on the top. But instead of the yorubas to merge together and develop a unified vision or mission with the Igbos in Nigeria, they chose to sabotage the Igbos and at the same time play a second fiddle to the fulanis whom they are in every way better than.

What yorubas Muslims have done to the great Yoruba nation is honestly unpardonable!!

And Peter Obi is playing a third fiddle to Atiku? You're an e-diotic tribalist.

From the days of Chief Obafemi Awolowo education has been the greatest legacy of the YORUBAS.

They can sell anything to send their kids abroad on education..land, housing, shares in GT and many asset just to send Gbenga to London for education. GOD BLESS OUR PARENTS.

The problem of the north is not lack of intelligent people I schooled there and I met pure geniuses. Their problem is Islam, is a religion that retards people, you can't interrupt any serious engagement 5 times a day and hope to beat the world it can't happen. You see this is why ALL RICH MUSLIM COUNTRIES ONLY GOT RICH BY NATURALLY ENDOWED WEALTH LIKE PETROLEUM ETC. Name one Muslim country that got rich exporting services and technology - none! Arabia was a thriving intellectual hotbed until Islam came. Complex mathematics, chemistry etc started from Arabia. The Egyptians that built the pyramids and mummified corpses that last thousands of years used scientific concepts that still baffles modern science but what is Egypt today? You see these facts about Islam are so clear but their founder did a very good job ensuring how to conquer and consolidate through highly innovative use of violence. The only Muslim country trying to build wealth today from what is in the head is the UAE the rest are only rich because of what they met in the ground. And those that have little or nothing in the ground like Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Bangladesh etc experience crushing poverty

Ode, before you start shouting yorubas dominating the list, just know that the list is not a complete picture of the number of students from Nigeria admitted to UK ivy League, it's just a serialised list - mentioned only few names that suits the fantasy of the writer.

But as usual and as expected a complete list that is not serialised which is the jamb list was dominated by the IGBOS. Forget it, there should be no comparison between Igbos and Yorubas on anything positive in Nigeria.

Why the mods deleted my comment which is devoid of insult or tribalism is what I don't understand. When actually this guy that quoted me with insult and tribalistic vitriol is left there hanging.

What's wrong with these people?
