So you left the store without opening the box?

So if you want to buy a brand new phone, they will break the seal and remove it for you just to see?

It's okay.

To the best of my knowledge, any shop selling phone or any product without any ulterior motives, courtesy demands the buyer has physical assessment of the product before making payment. This include opening the phone and to the point of putting your sim card and test it right before them to confirm workability. Anything otherwise, it's not a good place to trade if you do not want to be scammed.
Re: I Just Got Scammed by olmoRoc: 7:09am On Aug 28, 2020
Everyone who buys a new phone should have it opened and inspected at the shop, unless it's mailed to you. As a result of your mistake, they were right to tell you stories afterward.

Have you not heard you mush count your change before leaving a store? The same goes for buying any electrical/electronic gadgets.

As far as I'm concerned you've not been scammed so far, reasons being that they are willing to change it for you to a new one which you can open and test there in their shop. And another thing is that buyers also need to be very careful on purchases, they wrote tested OK on the receipt and you didn't test before leaving, that's your own ignorance and not the seller fault. What if the seller was also scammed, although very unlikely but not impossible. And for the people saying go to slot, hmmm we've heard different stories of peoples bad experiences in slot too so no seller is free of drama

Re: I Just Got Scammed by Beedude(m): 7:17am On Aug 28, 2020
We have so many reliable vendors like SLOT, 3C HUB, MICRO STATION and many more since u want a brand new phone. But u went on jiji.
Another mistake was not opening the phone before leaving. Who does that?
This should be a lesson.
U can never get a cash refund.
I pray they change it anyway
Re: I Just Got Scammed by lordlawee: 7:24am On Aug 28, 2020
Ask them for a refund, if they are not ready to refund, then post the name of the shop here so others would not fall victim
Once you post the name of the shop, it will be A red flag

Jiji is a market, and in any market you have legit and dubious people, be it online or offline. I've met and done business with legit individuals on jiji. There was a time I sent part payment for a product and received it in my location days later, and paid the balance all without physically seeing the seller whom I met on jiji.

Lets just wait till 10am. The seller even said slot does the same thing.they replace it .so i will be waiting to test their intergrity today. You cant blame me ,im used to online orders from boxers to my toothbrush so it clouded my sense lf reasoning at that time that there are still online legit shops here, the seller told me to comeback this morning.we argued back and forth on phone for close to 30mins. So i later calm down and said i will be back to the shop tomorrow morning. Nigeria hard,i am only shocked.thank God say no be fufu .

The shop is owned by an igbo man and he claimed he bought it brand new.now im scared that the one they will give me tomorrow will still be refurbished and nicely sealed as brand new. I went to a shop withh my intention to buy a brand new never before used phone and i paid via real transfer .but look at what i was giving. Thats the phone as i got it from the shop before tearing away the nylon
I said it this igbo destroy this country in the name of trading and selling fake products

No it wont, I was also a victim with a very popular instagram store with an O, bought a supposedly brand new 11 in September, phone was randomly typing characters, I contacted them and was told that they will send the phone to dubai and I will wait or collect a used samsung s5 in the meantime, i said what, for a phone i paid 350k for & I had to go cause trouble at their Lekki store with soldiers. The owner called an ACP trying to harass me, I carried 3 PS4s and told them I wont return it till they replace the phone or gave me a higher version even if I had to add some money to it. On my way home I went to the police station to report myself before they go change story for my head, I had to commend the NPF that day, DPO Maroko Lekki was amazing, judged the matter with fairness and instructed that they replace the phone within 24hrs. I got invited to their office in CV, next day I went with two soldiers and got me my current 11 pro, added 30k or so and got a reliable phone, the current one hasnt given me any issues in the last one year almost. I heard them saying they could reseal the old one and resell because it was still very beautiful

Hello nairalanders. I would love to share my bitter experience today. It all happened by 5.30pm. I had a chat with a seller on jiji and we agreed on a price. I got to his shop and inspectred and saw all phones were sealed. So a receipt was issued and it was written tested and okay. I paid through transfer and left thanking god i managed to get a brand new phone.

By the time i got back home, I tore the nylon as usual. However i heard a sound . I opened the box and saw the phone had flipped. I took out the screen protector, the phone was on. Inshort the phone was a refurbished phone. I felt sad and scammed. I called the shop and they start telling me sorry, that they did not know its refurbished .but i saw them all sealed in nylon. I later discover that the seal tape was missing. The imei sticker at the back was missing, lo and behold the screen was poorly glued. They promised to replace a brand new one. Now the question is how will i be sure brand new one is brand new one.

Nigerian crooks can get anywhere to get the seal sticker before opening it as brand new. I feel so stupid right now. All this happened at iwo road, inside a nice shop to fool ppl. I feel so ashmed. i paid 135k but got refurbished phone of 70k worth.

Your story is fishy... Who buys a phone at shop without opening & testing it at the stop?

Most major phone outlets have an engineer whose job is to open all phones sold & test them before customer walks away

I'm speaking from experience, I opened and tested the phone briefly at the office only to get home and phone started rebooting itself...i immediately went back with a friend to complain, they gave us 2 other faulty phones phones before the 3rd one turned out okay after we tested it right there at slot for over 2 hours....
2 years later, same slot sold me refurbished battery for the same phone, though they refunded me.

Blame only YOURSELF for not being street smart.

You enta market, buy NYLON and CARTON, and collected receipt that says PHONE TESTED and OKAY. So who tested it and confirmed it okay?

You MUST ALWAYS test phones INSIDE the shop before leaving, after you have paid. And don't allow them write Tested and Okay until it has been tested and confirmed okay by YOU inside the shop.

You are now on a long thing because you avoided known outlets and thought Jiji will give you a great deal.

Even when I buy phone from slot and Nokia shops that give warranty, I ask them to switch on and I test all the features there: Bluetooth, speaker, mouth piece, earpiece, charging port, memory slut ...u name it... Let alone from a shop owner

I no fit mumu for my own money. Am so sorry poster
Re: I Just Got Scammed by quest118(m): 8:17am On Aug 28, 2020
1. Always buy phones from accredited dealers like Slot.

2. Unbox and power your phone in the shop. Dont wait till you get home.

3. Do stuff with the phone, such as texting, phone call, internet browsing and taking a few pictures, while still at the shop.

4 If you find everything ok, then go home.

In fact this OP must be naive
-expecting brand new Note 8 in this era of Note 20
-didn't test the phone b4 payment
-accepted a receipt without imei number on it
-said he didn't open to test it because he wanted to resell, & yet still opened the box at home
.... & so on

Well he should be grateful they agreed to replace the phone.
