Why Is The Tourism Sector In Nigeria Receiving Little Attention by Akinola100: 9:16pm On Nov 07, 2020
The tourism sector is a very important sector in every nation. it brings revenue to a country's economy. Some countries economy is solely driven mainly by the tourism industry. Like Kenya for example rely solely on their tourism sector, their national parks attracts millions of people every year to the country, that's a lot of money. But why is the tourism sector in Nigeria so underdeveloped. Nigeria is rich in culture and tradition, several indigenous languages and nature reserves. We depend solely on oil that we tend to neglect others.
For example, I read a thread yesterday about the history of the Benin kingdom, I was amazed with what I read. There should be a site or museum where these ancient artifacts are, the people would know more about their heritage, this would attract people from all around the world to see the history of one of the most biggest civilization on earth. But, unfortunately, if you want to know more, you need to visit the London museum. The tourism sector is very important, little attention is paid to it. If we focus more on this sector, this would bring a lot of revenue and also employ so many people in this country.

Break up the country first and you would see tourism grow in Biafra, Niger delta and odua,
Let me ask you one question, how do you feel about travel to Borno, Southern kaduna, katsina, or zamfara ?

So you see why tourism would not grow

That means the issue of insecurity needs to be solved first..
I agree

Tourism is great, but should never be a major part of the economy. There's so many problems in that.

The thing is that Nigeria technically gets plenty of tourism because those who go abroad (and their children and grandchildren) visit regularly. It's pretty common for these groups to visit twice a year. And these people bring a ton of money into Nigeria with none of the problems that some ignorant oyinbo or Asian would introduce. In fact, the money they bring has a better impact because it goes directly to Nigerians, whether it's family or local businesses. If it were random tourists, that money could be swallowed up by foreign investors and their goofy resorts.

I believe Yoruba will pick more Behind name better than odua..... Odua has been corrupted by our enemy

Jamaica for example, earn their revenue only from tourism. Every sector is important in a country's economy, but the problem is that Nigeria depends solely on one and forgetting others

Our politicians and elites prefer to spend money and enjoy vacation in other countries. Why can't they channel that money to those places and also visit them here in Nigeria.
I don't want to believe foreign places are better.
we can do this

Your statements about Jamaica and Nigeria are completely false. You must be some stupid oyinbo or Asian. Please shut up and spout your nonsense elsewhere.

Tourism, agriculture, mining, and manufacturing are the largest industries in the country, contributing about 30%, 6.6%, 4.1% and 29.4% of Jamaica’s GDP respectively.

Nigeria is known for its status as the largest country in Africa by population. Additionally, with a GDP of about $1.118 trillion, the country has the largest economy on the continent and among the largest in the world. The largest industries which drive the country’s economy and account for the bulk of its annual GDP are its petroleum, tourism, agriculture, and mining industries. The biggest industries in the country also employ a large number of the country’s workforce with the agricultural industry alone employing about 30% of the country’s total labor force. These industries are also responsible for the bulk of the country’s exports. The chief export commodities from Nigeria include petroleum, chemicals, palm oil, and cocoa. The total exports from the country are valued at $40.81 billion each year.

Op is oyinbo. Oyinbo idiots like to babble incoherently about the mythical value of their dusty tourist dollars when most of them never leave their crappy town, and probably don't even have a passport. They literally have no idea about global economies and trade. They don't even have a clue about their local economy. Idiots.
