If you can behave like this as a brother, I wonder how greedy you would be when you have daughters. Na auction you go just dey auction them to highest bidder so you can use the money for selfish reasons.

I was born into an average family of 3 ....two female nd me and I am 23...i will go straight to the point .my sister bride price was paid in cash (300k)recently...and my mother said my share in the money as the only son is 20k out of 300k...I became angry and refused to collect ...the only excuse she gave was that her pastor said that the money is not was waste...that giving me more than that is a waste...and she is aware of my plan of renting a new apartment January....

I just want to know if that amount is fair for the first and only son ..am not been entitled ...but put yourself in my shoes

Note:my father says he doesn't want anything from the money...that he is not selling his daughter he only wants her happiness.

Note: I stay in abuja but my mom stays in the village

Fixed 300k? Is your sister a commodity? Is your mother and other greedy members of your family selling her? Better don't partake in the sharing. If the husband later discovers she's a bad product and return her and request for a refund of his money, hope you'll be able to cough out the portion you consumed?

My 3 sisters have married and my dad it a law when he was alife that only a note of the bride price should be accepted be it 1000 or 500 or 200 and that we should return the the rest and ask them to use the money and register her in all women groups that she is eligible to join in the community.
He said he wants his daughter well registered and not like a lagos wife.

Bride price in my place is 24 cowries. And because cowries are no longer in use, this was converted to 24 Naira. It is only demanded because it is customary. Female children are not meant to be 'sold for profit'. It demeans the marriage and the lady herself.

My place is different from yours, I know. My advice to you is accept 'your share' and move on, or ignore the entire money.

Bro if you do in-depth research , you'll be surprised to find out that that 300k was not set by their traditional institutions, just a greedy demand from the families that will definitely increase over time to meet up with inflation rates.

If you can not sustain yourself in Abuja and need your sister's bride price to pay rent, it is a clear indication you are not doing well and better head back to the village.

Your father who gave birth and raised your sister, no put mind for the money while you are here claiming first and only son with the irrational thought that you have been cheated out. Is it not a man like you that paid the bride price? angry

You know your worth, you don't beg, but you feel entitled to money that you shouldn't even smell

You don't care, but you care enough to know that 20k is too small for you,

Go and hustle for your own accommodation money dude, nobody owes you a dime, or any share of bride price, you are not her father,

So many weak entitled dull lazy males springing up these days, it's worrisome, look at the way he said first and only son as if there is an award attached to it,

I blame your father, he didn't stamp his foot to make sure the bride price is returned, if he did, you wouldn't be here yapping about.

It still baffles me you are at discord with your mother over the N20k given to you from the bride price paid by a brother-in-law you claimed "I have never seen him with my eyes ...don't have his number, have never spoken to him on phone."

Your sister is unfortunate to have a brother like you who cannot even defend her honour, but demands for a share of her bride price.
