It’s normal. My 4 year old nephew now owns one sitting room because he has assumed the tv and sitting room as his own. You dare not try change the channel cause e go cry for your head and his grandpa doesn’t play with him, so he will immediately ask you to leave it for him and there’s nothing me and my other siblings can do about it. The boy dey worry ! Now I usually go out to watch premier league. Meanwhile dstv dey house. Kids can sometimes be annoying.

Use it as a leverage to make him read his books, that if he is able to read you will allow him watch the cartoon

Start breastfeeding him all over

Some of these cartoons are satanic and may contain characters that have demonic undertones. Once your children start exhibiting strange character, especially after watching a particular cartoon or movie, change it.

That is why there's parental control on the pay TV menu.
Simply lock the channel in his absence and maybe one or two other cartoon channels, his interest will be focused elsewhere.
Meanwhile find educative materials to keep him occupied after taking his mind off television.
You can introduce him to painting, puzzles, simple word scrabble and other things that stimulate metal exercise.

Train up a child in the way he "SHOULD GO ...". You have the parameters and the standard on how you want your child to be raised. Raise him that way. You don't allow the child to choose except it's a good choice . At the age of 3 and though he got his mind, he cannot make a good choice for himself. If you allow him live his life just the way he wants it, he would turn out to become a lazy adult. You are the parents to the child , not the other way round

This is extremely harmful to the boy. Most authorities recommend strict limits on screen time before age 3. As others have suggested, you have to stop it. There is relatively strong evidence that too much TV time at a young age causes real neurological damage.

I think you should treat this like an addiction and get him off gradually, rather than cold-turkey. Cold-turkey is likely to lead to confrontation and possible trauma. Never beat him just to correct a habit you were complicit in his forming. Despite your good intentions, this can result in psychological scarring.

A trick I used with some success in the past is to get the kid to commit to the idea *long before* you implement it. Hence, "junior, from next week, should we switch off the TV at 9 pm ?" asked while he is enjoying his favorite food could get him to start preparing for the "evil" day. Repeat the suggestion (sometimes as a question, sometimes as an announcement) multiple times (always while he's happy). This won't stop him from crying when you implement the curb, but in my experience, he'll spend a shorter time crying if he has had the chance to prepare his mind.

Introduce the curbs in stages, so that over, say, one month, you take him down to approx 1 hour TV time per day. While you're doing this, introduce a new set of enjoyable activities to replace the TV. My strong recommendation is that you introduce him to very good kiddies books with colorful illustrations. Get the "analogue" print copies rather than tablets, else, you will realize that addiction to tablets could be just as bad...

Don't subscribe for two months if you can bear it, then when DStv call your line tell them they are spoiling your child with over cartoon.
Give the child a study time schedule towards evening time say around 7-8pm and at the same time his dinner. He will learn to sleep fast.

Somebody you should give his size and ground him from watching TV for weeks, you're here sounding defeated. If you cant control him now, I wonder when hes now a teenager what you'll do.

Turn on the tv station you want to watch. If he starts to react, give him a Stern look and if he doesn't behave, get the cane and whip his ass real hard. Yes hard because he seems to have grown tougher than you. So you need to break him down. I know you'll think I want you to kill your child. No! Just a strict dicipline to reset his brain otherwise, like you said, it will affect his academic performance and once that happens at the foundational stage, you might never get it right again.

In my years of experience as a teacher, I've observed that the slow leaners are the ones who are always glued to the TV. During class sessions, they won't respond but during break period you need to see them downloading all they saw in the cartoon movie with demonstrations too and you'll be like so this child can be this active and expressive... Only in the wrong things and not in their studies. Im talking about up to basic 5 level.

Yesterday, some of my basic 5 students were like, "miss J, this question is too difficult" during exams. And I was like, move to the next question then. And these are very cheap questions I set out of pity. If they studied instead of watching cartoons, they probably will not have difficulty answering those questions.

What I'm trying to bring out here is.. children naturally dont want to do the right thing any longer and if you allow them, you'll be the one to bear the brunt in the end.

This is very similar to what is happening to me, my daughter is 4 and shes been addicted to PJ MASK since when she was like 2+.

Sometimes she will starting mentioning those character in it, and i will just be stunned. I understand your pain honestly.

At 3 yrs, my daughter will be watching her carton alone, and be smiling and laughing alone, while myself and her mum go dey room, na serious things o.

What i did was to send her to grandma, who is just about 20km away from us, she cant watch carton there. By the time she came back, the addiction kinda reduce. She's 4 now, and will humbly ask her mum if she can watch carton on sunday? We still allow carton for 2 hours on sunday only.

You are not a bad mum, you're not alone in this struggle to raise a well-rounded son. Just be patience and firm.

I think cartoons adds to a child's intelligence and knowledge. I spent almost all of my childhood watching cartoons and because of that, I knew more stuff than my mates.

You can use your son's love for cartoon to educate him. Look for educational cartoons that teaches various subject like English reading and listening, science and technology etc, and let him watch those. Also add fun cartoons to the mix to keep him interested.

Note: Old school cartoons are better than the rubbish they put out nowadays imo
