During sim registration we provided finger prints and facial recognition. Still it didn't stop the crimes. What does he want with NIN that NIMC offices are reluctant to give.
What is this govt about sef?

SAMAJ:
Following the earlier directive on the suspension of new SIM registration by network operators, the Federal government has directed all operators in the country to disconnect every SIM card not synchronized with valid National Identity Number (NIN) by December 30th 2020.

This came after an urgent meeting of key stakeholders in the Communications industry convened by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) on Monday, December 14, 2020.

The meeting in its resolution insisted that all telecom operators must from Thursday, December 16, 2020 require all their subscribers to provide valid National Identification Number (NIN) to update SIM registration records.

In light of insecurity which pervades the Nigerian state, facilitated by unidentified individuals taking advantage of the mobile network and the anonymity the prevailing regime accords them, a most useful solution would be to tie phone lines to a database of identification on a national scale.

The ball is in your court, why do you disagree with the idea?
At the bolded how many culprit has been apprehended so far with all the policies that has been put so far?
This policy is useless because there's porous borders and don't hope your country have any data base of identification on a national scale.

They should bare it in mind that covid 19 is on a second wave invasion. This is not the time to jam pac the offices of telecom operators and 2 weeks is to short to synchronise millions of customers.

TBH this is something they can do behind the scene without letting customers know. Collecting BVN Data, NIN Data, Bank, SIM registration.

Using Biometric data, date of birth, phone and some other information, the could currate all merge the one

So you suddenly realize that covid 19 second wave is real just because you don't want to go and upgrade your SIM information?

Laziness is a disease.

Laziness always make you to continue giving excuses upon excuses instead of getting the job done.

It's not like supplying your NIN will take up to 1 hour to accomplish, or is it?
I wonderwhy people like you just talk without thinking, yes covid-19 is still a problem and number of cases rising day by day, apart from that, it's impossible to accomplish that within 2 weeks, except if they're going to create a ussd code to allow people link they're nin from home.
Upto 50 percent of Nigerians don't have nin, it took me hours to get my nin all because of bad network and all that, I remember last year when students were asks to provide nin for jamb registration, come and see crowd at the nin registration centre, they later suspended it because many students couldn't get their nin, now we are talking about the entire country, within 2 weeks. Please always think before you post.
Thanks

I believe these people know that to collect NIN is like to collect an American Visa. if the collection of NIN is made simple just the way the collection of ATM is at different bank, all Nigerians will have it.
Even the renew of NIN card is like hell with much fees to pay.
let the collection of NIN card be digital, simple and fast.

Lots of people are yet to register for NINC and second wave of covid is coming, how will social distancing be done?

Why the rush to block sim?
Don't mind them. When you even go to register for the NIN, you'll see those useless civil servants shamelessly using the exercise to make money. People will be at the centers from as early as 3a.m., yet when the officials come by 10 a m. you'll see them complaining about one irrelevance or another, which are just excuses to look for bribes. At the end of the day, they will only register 20 people. Is that how they want to register millions of people?

No doubt this will reduce fraudulent activities but the Main agenda is - tracking, Tracing, monitoring and placing the entire citizens under surveillance through coercion for political gains. Rather than eradicating hunger and ensuring a secured people this is what they chose do .

Bunch of totally inept idiots running otherwise great country Nigeria!

How many times did they register SIMs? 2004, 2006, 2007, I think. How is a foreigner going to get SIM if he/she has no Nigerian national ID? Bullsh1t. This is just another attempt in showing how "they are working" while they do nothing.

Security has everything to do with Mr. A being able to abduct an individual, requesting ransom be paid , networking with his henchmen all under the cloak of anonymity.

Should a database exist for all phone users, tied to unique and identifiable individuals, it would go a long way to reduce such crimes.

No single strategy can eradicate crime.

It takes a holistic approach and the contribution of the citizenry to address such.

If you are opposed to it, explain why .
You do not understand how kidnappers operate. They use the phone line of the victim (or any other victim) to contact the families.
