Just STFU! and tell us the process.

SilverNorGold:
Nigerian youth are too lazy!... Something that didn't take me up to 10 minutes to do, they are everywhere on social media crying wolf.. Come February 28, 2021, most of them will still not meet the deadline and still call for another extension.

Too bad! Even on this thread, you'll see them accusing the government of "inflicting pains on them".. Very lazy youth! But if it's to watch BBN and vote for their favorite housemates, they'll lavish all their time on such frivolities, but common to do something that will benefit them, they are attacking the government..

It is only an idle hands that see going to network provider office as a productive time. The policy that would be eventually useless. If fraudster can comfortably use people's ATM, transfer cash to their account and other banking deal without be apprehended even with BVN & camera on the ATM stand. It shows the country is not serious.

Because even with biometric, there are hundereds of SIM cards that have been pre-registered...

Which is made easy by the fact that the laws don't limit the number of SIM cards you can own and by extension register for.

Under such a scenairo, someone can register 20 sims, and sell 19 to people who 'DON'T HAVE THE TIME' to register in person, and that includes kidnappers. and other criminals.

And when the police investigates....

Linking the SIM to the NIN makes it harder. People now have to register their SIM in person. That ends the pre-registered SIM loophole that was exploited by criminals.

It also prevents people from selling their SIM. Why sell your sim since it is now linked to your NIN? It would be like giving away your ID to all and sundry.

See eh ... There are lot of loopholes in this SIM registration of a stuff which NIN cannot solve.....

You can even buy an international SIM card on eBay or Amazon and start using it here in Nigeria without even registering

Yes, that's one loophole the government has to think about.

But if I understand correctly, using an international SIM in Nigeria costs money.Far cheaper to use a local SIM.

I agree this admin is not a good admin, but this measure would improve the security of Nigeria and make it harder for criminal agents to operate.

MODIFIED

1.Linking sim to NIN in essence makes your SIM a new ID card so to speak...meaning it would be difficult to sell your SIM to anyone...including potential kidnappers....because it would be tantamount to selling your ID.

2.Assuming a kidnapper kidnaps someone to use his SIM to make extorition calls for another kidnap victim...that adds more stress, and draws more attention to the kidnapper.

MODIFIED 2

Currently, one can register up to a 100 SIM in his or her name and sell them off. These SIMS can then be sold on to criminals and crooks. Meaning that a kidnapper can make calls without fear of being traced.

This new policy makes it harder for criminals. Since now, every SIM one registers for has to be linked to the NIN...which works in 2 ways

1.People would be more reluctant to sell their SIM cards....now that they are linked to the NIN

2.Everyone has to use a SIM card that is linked to NIN...making it easier to trace criminals.

They only know how to spend their times on useless endeavors.

Tell them to go and register for NIN, they will ask you when be the last day?

Can you imagine!

Come on that February 28 2021, so many of them will still not have registered.

If you ask them why, don't be shocked when they tell you that they have not registered because of Buhari.
Stop saying nonsense and stop generalizing

It's not a loophole per se... It's a roaming agreement telecom operators have with international SIM providers...

So people can still use hundreds different types of international SIM card in Nigeria for data, Calls, SMS or verification

I don't think it makes much difference. All SIMS are supposed to be registered with subscribers details, picture and biometrics taken. If I buy 100 SIMS, register in my name and onward sell, then it is still my detail that is there and not the person who bought it. So if it is not a deterrent now, why would it be because NIN is associated with those SIM cards?

Re: Extend SIM Card - NIN Registration Till 2021 - House Of Representatives To NCC by bigtt76(f): 3:18pm On Dec 16, 2020
I agree with you that many delayed this for too long but then the deadline is too steep. You can't update millions of subscribers' NIN on their mobile SIM registration profile within that short period.

Many believe because the NIN is tied to your mobile number that's, all... No you still need to present to the mobile operators your NIN for them to update their record.

The problem here is that the mobile operators do not have a field to accommodate this or verify the number on the gk right now. This is the reason why each time you go to get a new sim from the same operator, you are registered multiple times. With this new method, one registration and subsequent new Sims will be added to your profile.

I hope this doesn't became another exercise where we will have to start queuing up and down.

Ideally it should be as simple as the various GSM providers provide a place on their website where i can add my NIN details to my line. To authenticate that I have the number, I put in my phone number on the site and it send me an OTP that lasts for only 30mins, which i use to authenticate myself on the site, then I input my NIN. There should then be an autocheck with NIMC database to ensure that the details (name etc) of the GSM provider and NIMC match. If it does, it's authenticated. If not, then line is not authenticated until someone in NIMS/GSM provider reviews the data and asks the subscriber to present himself.

This way, it keeps people away from MTN, GLO, etc offices. Only those who cannot do it online or whose records match will need to go to MTN office. Keeps the process smooth and siple.

But when has any process in Nigeria ever been seamless and simple??

Not sure Nigerians who onward sell SIM with their own details care about selling their NIN. Nigerians worry more about today than tomorrow. Is it a Nigerian in the jungle of Sambisa that is worrying about the future impact of his NIN? Person wey no even get future!!

Can you just shut up. I am busy and dont have time to go queue up all day over something that should easily be concluded online. The fact you stay in one locality where no one is interested in NIN does not mean everyother person stays in the same locality. It wasnt easy getting through the protocols and processes when the registration started. And your country which cannot get anything right suddenly woke up to a 2 weeks deadline so that the NIN officials will make brisk money off Nigerians. If you quote me stupidly i will find you, catch you and beat you up. I am not even joking.
