President Buhari didn’t not close the boarder to better Nigeria but did that to exercise his power, what has the boarder closure brought to us Nigerians, Hunger and suffering the norther part of Nigeria are living well, their boarder are very well active, inflows of foreign goods enter Nigeria every time, just Buhari don't likes the southern s and he wants to exercise his power and he will regret it with time.

The local farmers should go and rest if they are not ready to make rice cheap.

It's been agony since they closed the border. Their selfishness is top notch.

Our local rice Farmers are very greedy. At a point, they were raising the price almost every week. Should we starve because of local rice. A cup is100 to 120 here last Christmas. The govt is not helping matters too
In a capitalist nation like ours what do you want the government to do

Our local farmers can't meet up with mouth of Nigerians when it comes to food productions, we consumes a lot of rice, and they can't help the matter either as greed have taken over them, so, it's better to import rice to rival with them and to reduce cost of purchase of this product.

If price of locally made rice will reduce drastically... Foreign
rice will not flood Nigeria market

Exactly so.

As it is, the local rice has been do expensive and so disappointing. You can't cook regular rice meals without it going soggy and tasting bad

Most Nigerian packaged rice is totally useless. Last time I ate at Mama Nkechi's shop, my mouth was the processor, struggling to separate the stones from rice.

She used to be everyone's favorite (for jollof and white rice), now 97.8% have moved to Iyawo Gbenga's shop (since 1818 she's been cooking foreign rice).

1. Our politicians are not eating local rice. Even Buhari is not eating local rice.

2. Nigeria rice processors are greedy bastards. If there is no embargo on foreign rice it will comfortably sell for 9,000. Yet you see dome useless local rice sold for as high as 29,000.

3. I ate foreign rice throughout the so called borders closure. When I mistakenly tried LR I regretted it. It looks fine (no stone) but I had to cook for hours, it was too starchy (spilling all over my gas), and the taste was terrible.

4. You can't be giving people inferior goods at exorbitant price and expect them not to boycott it.

Heard it gets spoilt so easily too. The packaging, outlook and everything is just too discouraging. So are so dirty, that you might even need to wash with detergent first before you cook. cheesy. Nsukka market has some of the ugliest rice I have ever seen.

Exactly! The local farmers were reaping us to death. Imagine buying one bag of rice for 30k.Something that shouldn't go for more than 12k.Government was helping their situation to improve local rice production but those local Millers were only interested in fleecing the general public. If they don't have the capacity to supply the Nigerian market let them allow the foreign rice to fill up the short fall, stop shortchanging Nigerians.

Stakeholders in the value chain, including local processors and growers, have expressed dismay over the development, saying it would reverse the gains recorded in the last few years.

You see Nigerians are selfish people in all ramifications, so I should continue eating your nonsense local rice because of your selfish interest?

Who would buy local rice where the price is even more than that of foreign rice, despite all the illegal fees and bribes smugglers pay to bring it in.
Let local rice be sold at ₦10,000 and you see if Nigerians won't rush it.
Truth. I have been wondering why Nigerian rice is so expensive despite it being processed locally. Now the chicken has come home to roost and I have no sympathy to spare for them.

“What they do is to mop up paddy from farmers and store them instead of milling them and selling. This is causing serious concerns even to the government.”
Another agriculturist, Mallam Audu Ishak, said, “These people will go and take money from the government, promising heaven, but let me tell you, they are part of the problem, and thank God government is now realising that.”
A stakeholder who craved anonymity, said government was being careful in giving money to some of the processors because of the way some of them betrayed agreements.
Although these claims against the processors have not been confirmed, a source at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture told our reporter that government was concerned about the continued rise in the price of local rice despite the huge effort and resources being committed to rice production in the country.

NIGERIANS ARE THE PROBLEMS OF NIGERIA, NOT THE GOVERNMENT. ALWAYS HAVING THIS TENDENCY TO WANT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE NEXT MAN. GOOD FOR THEM. NO WONDER THE PRICE OF RICE KEPT RISING

Fvck greedy local rice farmers. Consequent on the ban on foreign rice, the local rice has increased by a factor of 4. If banning foreign rice, does not make local rice cheaper and available, then to hell with the greedy local farmers and traders. Give us foreign rice

Who would buy a mostly below par local rice when there is mostly good quality foreign rice at almost same price? It's just simple economics, crash the price of local rice and see most people gravitate towards it.
