Patriarchy is as old as man and has played a vital role in civilisation.

1. At a time when men lived in forests and had to hunt game for food as well as for clothing (wool/leather). They also needed to kill dangerous predators like the Saber tooth tiger, the dinosaurs and other dangerous predators that are now extinct today, including those still alive today. Patriarchy taught young boys and men that is was their duty to fend for and protect their families even till death.

2. Before diplomatic processes became the order of the day to resolving conflicts between communities, war was the language of choice. The fate of almost all males were to fight in multiple wars until they are killed or they manage to escape in the end.

3. Patriarchy transitioned men from living in caves to living in fortified cities with walls to guard against predators and invading soldiers, as men realized their strength relied on numbers. This laid the ground work for modern day cities and civilisation.

4. Patriarchy brought about development in literature, arts, political system of governments, commerce, civil rights, sanitation etc as a consequence of people living in "an enclosed fortified cities", there must be rules governing how these humans will live together in peace and harmony, unless people living in such close contact will cause even more conflicts.

5. Patriarchial society's were the first to realize that women can be given greater privileges in stable societies, brought as a result of living in "an enclosed fortified city". For example ancient Egyptian civilisation, the Jewish civilisation etc.

6. Patriarchy pushed out some systems of government that were critical to wars, like the monarch system and implemented more stable systems like democracy. This gave room for all to thrive, especially women.

7. Without patriarchy the human race would not have survived up to this point. It called for men to man up and lead even in the face of danger and instability.

8. Patriarchy was primary about the survival of the human race and not the oppression of women.

9. Patriarchy was like feminism to women in the past because it gave them protection in the chaos of early civilisation. They lived longer, as they were not part of wars. Patriarchy society viewed them as the "spoils of war". So while the men of the losing side of wars were killed, the women and children were saved, including the loot of war and carried away. Beautiful women where taken as wives while the others were turned to domestic staff, but rarely death was their punishment.

10. Tradition and custom is not primarily a product of patriarchy but rather beliefs in different deities. For example in Egypt that had one of the earliest civilisations, they worshipped a number of gods, including birds, snakes, bulls and other animals. Some of their gods were males and females. They believed in omens and heavenly signs.
